Lauderdale, Fla. He was 84. “We are sadden by the passing of beloved actor Leslie Nielsen, probably best remembered as Lt. Frank Drebin in The Naked Gun series of pictures, but who enjoyed a more than 60-year career in motion pictures and television," said a statement from Nielsen's family released through his rep. Nielsen died surrounded by family including his wife, Barbaree, and friends. Nielsen was born Feb. 11, 1926, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Man Behind Empire Passes Away Irvin Kershner , who directed The Empire Strikes Back , the 1980 landmark sequel to George Lucas’ original Star Wars film, died Saturday at his Los Angeles home after a 3 1/2-year battle with lung cancer. He was 87. During his four-decade career, Kershner used his eye for photography and his ear for music to helm George C. Scott in The Flim-Flam Man (1967), Barbra Streisand in Up the Sandbox (1972), Faye Dunaway in Eyes of Laura Mars (1978), Richard Harris in The Return of a Man Called Horse (1976) and Sean Connery in the film that returned the actor to the James Bond role for a curtain call, Never Say Never Again (1983). “He had the most incredible spirit, an exuberance for life,” Streisand said. “Always working, always thinking, always writing, amazingly gifted and forever curious. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Pt 1 & 2 Will Be Different Films Daniel Radcliffe says Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 will be much different than the penultimate installment in the epic franchise, which is now in theaters. "The last movie is going to be really, really fast-paced and a load of action in it, and it is like a war film," Radcliffe told Reuters. "If we had done this book in one film, the stuff that would have got cut is most of this film." However, it's Part 1 that the actor finds more appealing because it contains the most character development. Part 1, Radcliffe added, is "so sedate compared to what the next one is going to be like. The next film, because you've had all the plot set up already, you can just kind of enjoy the insanity of all the action." Did It Really Happen? Apollo 18 poster is revealed. Apollo 18 is an an upcoming 2011 science fiction film directed by Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego in his first English-language film. It is being produced by Timur Bekmambetov and is distributed by The Weinstein Company. The is scheduled to be released theatrically on March 4, 2011 The film is about a supposedly canceled moon mission that really happened in secret, leading to an alien discovery. Simple but effective, it's one small step for man, and another similar step for something else with three bony toes, plus the ominous tagline "There's a reason we've never gone back to the moon". Apollo 18, of course, was the moon mission that got cancelled in 1970 due to Congressional cuts and safety concerns. Except, according to the film, it wasn't cancelled at all... Ghostbusters 3 Casting News As you’ll have heard, Ghostbusters 3 is a lock for a Fall 2011 start . And casting is going to kick off soon in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles. FFA has the casting announcement, saying they’re looking for actors… but don’t specify which roles. They do, however, have a synopsis that insinuates the film will feature a band of new, young recruits, so one might assume that’s who they’re looking to cast. What's Playing dropped a friend at line in Oak Lawn, who works in casting. While he hasn’t got specifics - dates and so on - he said has given the heads up that Sony will be auditioning “young male and female actors aged 18-30″ for a role in the film.
