NBR Names "The Social Network" Best Film Of The Year The Social Network has been named best film of the year by the National Board of Review , which announced its year-end awards today. The New York-based group also hailed the film’s David Fincher as best director , Jesse Eisenberg as best actor and Aaron Sorkin for best adapted screenplay . [For the full list of winners, click here .] “We believe the film portrays a dramatic story that will stand up over time and appeal to many generations,” said NBR president Annie Schulhof, said. Made up of academics, film professionals and fans, the NBR will hand out its awards on Jan. 11 at Cipriani’s 42nd St. in New York City. While the NBR has chosen a couple of eventual Oscar winners like No Country for Old Men and Slumdog Millionaire as its best picture winners in the past, its choices don’t usually point to final Oscar wins. Pretty Boys To Team Up In A Buddy Cop Movie Ryan Reynolds and Bradley Cooper are signing up for take-your-dads-to-work day. The busy actors are attached to star in an untitled original action-comedy written by Sheldon Turner (“Up in the Air”), who snagged north of seven figures for the gig. The story follows two friends, who are also San Francisco cops, whose fathers were once partners on the police force. The older generation is forced out of retirement to help their sons crack a case, with typically antagonistic results. The actioner is meant to have an updated “Lethal Weapon” flavor that plays into edgier R-rated territory. Neal Moritz (“The Bounty Hunter”), Andrew Panay (“Wedding Crashers”) and Reynolds’ Dark Trick Films partner Jonathon Komack Martin (“Van Wilder”) are producing along with J.C. Insiders say the price tag was in the $3 million to $4 million range. Directed by Spanish helmer Rodrigo Cortes and penned by Peter Safran, the film whipped up a flurry of interest among buyers after making its world premiere late Saturday night. Pic was produced by Safran and Adrian Guerra. " 'Buried' is one of the tightest, most intense thrillers we've ever seen, and we were absolutely determined to bring it home to Liosngate," said Jason Constantine, prexy of acquisitions and co-productions at Lionsgate.
