Justice League Dark Heading To HBO MAX

HBO has already benefitted from JJ Abrams' canny producing style – his Bad Robot company is behind Westworld . But now, under the terms of his recent huge deal with parent company Warners, the companies' new HBO Max streaming service will develop three new shows from Abrams, including Justice League Dark and Overlook , inspired by The Shining. Justice League Dark , which had already hit the rumor-wires, should finally bring the darker supernatural side of the DC universe fully to screens (Constantine had a short-lived show and then joined Legends Of Tomorrow). The concept has been explored as a potential film before (most famously by Guillermo del Toro), but the series should allow for more depth and the streaming service destination means it can be properly dark. As for Overlook , it sees Abrams dipping back into the well of Stephen King's imagination after Castle Rock for a series based on his famous tome. The new show seems likely to feature Rock creative duo Dust

J.J. Abrams Directing Star Wars: Episode IX?

The Force Awakens director might strike back. By Brandon Wolfe While J.J. Abrams is kicking off the relaunch of the Star Wars franchise with December’s The Force Awakens , he has been conspicuously absent from the announcement for any of the subsequent films announced, be it the regular chapter entries or the spin-offs. Rian Johnson is taking the helm of Episode VIII and was widely speculated to be directing Episode IX as well given that he's also been announced as that film's writer. However, according to Latino Review , the Disney higher-ups are so pleased with what they’ve seen of The Force Awakens that Abrams is now their first choice to direct the ninth episode of the saga. If true, this stands as a major boost of encouragement for what Abrams will deliver later this year. Star Wars: Episode IX is set for release in 2019. Was George Lucas Working on Episode VII Before the Disney Deal?

We pontificate on how such a plan might have been received by fans. Story by Matt Cummings It's not too often these days that people can agree on something. This happened long ago and too far away when Director George Lucas' Star Wars prequel Episode I: The Phantom Menace and its follow ups. After what was the most successful and perhaps best trilogy to that time, the disappointment at several aspects of Menace was abrupt and severe, leaving fans to ponder a world without Star Wars in it. Then, something magical happened: Disney purchased it in 2012 for $2 billion, while at the same time setting dates for Episode VII: The Force Awakens , as well as a series of origin/spin-offs by directors John Trank ( Chronicle ) and Gareth Edwards ( Godzilla ). In one fell swoop, a beloved franchise had returned and its leader - and perhaps destroyer - was whisked away to seeming retirement. Then came news today that gave the entire Internet a temporary shudder: Lucas was pl

Star Wars VII Update: Abrams Announces Teaser Trailer Date

Star Wars Helmer JJ Abrams Tweets out a major announcement. For those of us anxiously awaiting any word of a teaser trailer for Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens , it's been a tough month. First, it was set to appear in front of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 , then with the upcoming Disney musical Into the Woods , and then with The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies . Well today we finally found out the WHERE and even the WHEN, but one question remains. Check out this image which Director J.J. Abrams released earlier this morning: From the image, we know HOW LONG (88 seconds), we know WHEN (This Friday), and WHERE ('Select Theaters'), but it's not clear WHAT feature will play host. Regal Cinemas released the following list of theaters, but did not specify which showing would play host: Irvine, CA Edwards Irvine Spectrum 22 & IMAX San Diego, CA Edwards Mira Mesa Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX Atlanta, GA Regal Atlantic Station Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX

Has Star Wars VII Been Delayed?

Read on to find out if Harrison Ford's injury has postponed production. If you haven't been living under a Dewback for the last week or so, you'll know that Actor Harrison Ford was sent home for 8 weeks to rehab a broken leg he suffered on the set of Star Wars Episode VII . Since then, everyone has been wondering how that would affect the production schedule, particularly if he has a substantial role. And so, the obvious question has been floating around the galaxy: if production is delayed, how will that affect the release date? According to our friends at Jedi News, “a number of sources” are stating that shooting could be pushed back. This tells us that Director J.J. Abrams could not work around Ford’s absence - which we were initially led to believe - by changing up the planned filming schedule. This still could be the plan, but Jedi News did mention that a meeting was called earlier at Pinewood Studios in London to decide how best to move forward. Other si

Star Wars Episode 8 Being Directed By...

Check out the surprising director announcement...and no, it's not JJ Abrams. For awhile now, we've known that Star Trek reboot-er JJ Abrams was in charge of bringing the next films to theaters. Under his leadership, we've seen images of the cast and tantilizing set pieces . But it was always assumed that he would be directing Episodes 7-9. Not so. According to multiple sources including Deadline, it's been announced that writer and director Rian Johnson (Looper) will not only be taking over as director AND writer for Episode 8. There's also rumors spreading that Johnson will be doing the same with Episode 9. While TheWrap is known for their accuracy, we're not ready to call that deal done yet. He has been plugged to pen the final installment, but it's the directorial duties that have yet to be finalized. This would place Johnson at the head of one of the most iconic film series in history, with Lawrence Kasdan (rumored to be in charge on the sp

'Star Wars 7' Cast Adds Lupita Nyong'o & Gwendoline Christie

The announcement should wrap up JJ Abrams' casting of the Sci-Fi odyssey. Production on Star Wars: Episode VII is apparently moving smoothly, and fans have gotten tantalizing pictures of the cast as they sat together to read the script .  But ever since Director JJ Abrams announced his cast for Star Wars: Episode VII , we had heard rumors that the creator of Alias and the current reboot of the  Star Trek  movie franchise was looking to add more members to that galaxy far, far away. Well, today we learned about two more, and they're big. First up is Oscar-winning Actress Lupita Nyong'o, who took home top honors in February for Best Supporting Actress in 12 Years a Slave . The other announcement will bring a smile to Game of Thrones fans. Actress Gwendoline Christie has been pegged to play a currently unknown role. She's become a fan favorite for her portrayal of the stead-fast, sword-wielding Brienne of Tarth in the HBO hit. Here's a portion of the p

Here's What We Think Of The New Futuristic Cop Show Almost Human

Here's what we think of the new futuristic cop show Almost Human. By: MattInRC FOX's new futuristic procedural Almost Human needs a dash of humanity and a sprinkle of bad ass. Things on television just aren't what they used to be. Not too long ago, premiere schedules were predictable - we sat down in September and enjoyed mostly new episodes clear through April, with season finales just in time for May Sweeps. Now, premieres seem to happen all year, forcing potential viewers to do more work than ever to keep up. Why this happens is something only for morons running FOX, CBS, NBC, and CBS can explain. How did FOX's November 17/18 premiere Almost Human stack up? We give you The Verdict below! Show: Almost Human (FOX) Time: Mondays, 8PM The Concept: A rogue cop and his synthetic partner fight crime in the not-too-distant future. The Verdict: Stories of trust between machine and man has been debated in Science Fiction for quite some time, with a

JJ Abrams Talks Episode VII.

Mention the name JJ Abrams and there’s one question that immediately barges all others aside: what’s the plan for Episode VII ? While he was able to approach Star Trek with a detached objectivity, how will he, as a huge Star Wars fan approach Star Wars' bold new era? Empire put that question to the man himself when we recently sat down with him at his Bad Robot offices in LA. “I don’t know because we’re just getting started. So it’s a great question that I hope I’ll have a good answer to when I know what the answer is. There are infinitely more questions than answers right now, but to me, they’re not that dissimilar. Though I came at these both from very different places, where they both meet is a place of ‘Ooh, that’s really exciting.’ And even though I was never a Star Trek fan, I felt like there was a version of it that would make me excited, that I would think ‘that’s cool, that feels right, I actually would want to see that. “How we were going to get there, what the choi

Bradley Cooper On For Lance Armstrong Film

Pouring water over its head and puffing out its cheeks, JJ Abrams ' Lance Armstrong movie is in hot pursuit of a certain other project the filmmaker has heading to the screen. Talking to ET , Abrams let slip that his Bad Robot studio is now in informal talks with Bradley Cooper about playing the lie-peddling peddler. “[Cooper] sent me an email and we've been talking,” Abrams told ET. This won’t come as a big surprise to anyone who heard Cooper express his interest in the role earlier this month. “I think he's fascinating,” the actor told BBC News. “What a fascinating character.” The film will be based on Cycle of Lies: The Fall Of Lance Armstrong, a book proposal by New York Times sportswriter Juliet Macur, who has followed the cyclist for ten murky years of triumph and transfusions. The story, which, as the title implies, is set firmly at the 'downfall' end of the story, was optioned by Bad Robot and Paramount in mid-January. With the tenacious Macur pro

Star Trek 2 Will Preview In Front Of The Hobbit

Given the strong deflector shields that director/producer JJ Abrams has thrown up around Star Trek Into Darkness , nothing has been seen from the movie aside from some leaked set images and the jokey, blink-and-you-missed-it “footage reveal” he brought to Conan O’Brien’s show (you can see that below). Now, to reward cinemagoers for their patience, Paramount is releasing nine minutes of the film in front of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey from December 14 in the US and December 13 here in Blighty. Woo! We get it first! The plan is for the footage to play on 500 IMAX 3D screens worldwide ahead of Peter Jackson’s film. Star Trek Into Darkness features several sequences shot specifically in the IMAX format, much like The Dark Knight Rises . It was also post-converted into 3D. “Our longtime partners JJ Abrams, Bryan Burk and the Bad Robot team have really hit it out of the park – the footage is absolutely incredible,” says Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entert

JJ Abrams Alcatraz Preview & Pictures

Paula Patton Lands Lead Female Role In Mission: Impossible 4

Paula Patton Lands Lead Female Role In Upcoming Film Paula Patton has landed that female lead role in the upcoming Mission: Impossible 4 film. She was testing alongside actresses Lauren German and Kristen Kreuk . I'm told that Patton will play a young operative who works with Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt character. She is mostly known for her appearances in the films Idlewild, Déjà Vu, Mirrors and Precious . Patton is married to songwriter/singer Robin Thicke. The film will not be called Mission: Impossible 4 . Cruise and JJ Abrams, who hatched the project together, always envisioned it as a franchise reboot. The film begins production in the fall with Brad Bird directing Cruise, who'll co-star with The Hurt Locker's Jeremy Renner in what was another hotly contested role. Paramount co-finances the $140 million film with David Ellison's Skydance banner. It marks the first film for Cruise and Paramount since he left the studio after generating over $3 billion in wo

Mission: Impossible 4 Jeremy Renner Tom Cruise

Jeremy Renner Joining Tom Cruise On A Mission Paramount Pictures won't be screen-testing any young actors to star opposite Tom Cruise after all. I've learned that the studio has just chosen Jeremy Renner to infuse new blood in its Mission: Impossible franchise. Renner is the Oscar-nominated star of The Hurt Locker and will star alongside Cruise in the fourth installment of the franchise that will begin production in the fall as a reboot. Brad Bird is directing and Cruise is producing with JJ Abrams . Paramount has struggled to find the right co-star to play the operative opposite Cruise. One factor was selecting an actor who could potentially carry the series on his own down the line, should Cruise's Ethan Hunt character not continue to be the emphasis. While Cruise is expected to return for a fifth installment, production chief Adam Goodman wanted a guy who could grow into a leading man in his own right. The studio boss was interested in actors like Tom Hardy and C

Mission Impossible 4 Pushed Back

Mission Impossible 4 Pushed Back Back in February, it was announced that Paramount will release Mission Impossible 4 starring Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt again, produced by J.J. Abrams, on Memorial Day 2011 but Paramount today has pushed back the release date to December 16th, 2011. Last we heard, Brad Bird (The Incredibles) was in talks to direct MI:4 but nothing is finalized or confirmed yet but I’m sure we’ll hear more soon enough. Along with that is the announcement of the release date of Super 8, the super secret project directed by J.J. Abrams, produced by Steven Spielberg, will see the light of day sometime in Summer 2011. The trailer, which has caused so much curiosity over the interweb is attached to Iron Man 2 this weekend. Please Leave A Comment-

Tom Cruise Is Set For Mission Impossible 4

Tom Cruise Is Set For Mission Impossible 4 Ah snaps with my finger in a Z formation. Tom Cruise will be coming back as Ethan Hunt in Mission Impossible 4. This is really great news for me having a man crush on TC. Screenwriters Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec are already attached to write the script. The intention is to make this Cruise's next film and start shooting by summer for a Memorial Day 2011 weekend release. And I can definitively say that, despite chatter to the contrary, IM4 will be very much of an Ethan Hunt pic with Cruise as the main character. " I hear Paramount is really excited about relaunching the franchise, which has grossed over $1.4 billion globally. “Tom and J.J. are great talents and we are excited to be working with them to re-launch this legendary franchise,” said Paramount Pictures Chairman & CEO Brad Grey.
