Sylvester Stallone Will Direct Creed 2

Sylvester Stallone has been the big driving force behind a sequel to the excellent Creed (not shocking given the shot in the arm it provided for the Rocky franchise) and has now taken to his usual venue of choice – Instagram – to announce that he'll be stepping up to direct the new film. While Stallone has certainly got enough directorial experience on his CV, the announcement that he'll be pulling multiple roles on the film (he's producing, writing, appearing as Rocky and now directing) does rather have us worried, since the vitality and nuance of the first Creed was largely attributable to co-writer/director Ryan Coogler. Michael B. Jordan is back as Adonis Johnson, son of the late Apollo Creed, but beyond that little has been officially confirmed. Sly has been nodding towards an encounter with the son of Dolph Lundgren's Ivan Drago (the man who killed the elder Creed in the ring), and we'll wait and see how real that is. Discuss this with fellow SJF fan

Jordan are reuniting on Wrong Answer , the true story of how Atlanta high school educators participated in an intricate, systemic standardized-test cheating scandal in 2013. The film has been set at New Regency and Plan B, and Ta-Nehisi Coates will write a script that is based on a 2014 The New Yorker article by Rachel Aviv. Coogler will produce with Plan B’s Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, and New Regency’s Arnon Milchan. New Regency will finance the project. Please Leave A Comment-

Mondo Announces #CREED "Composer's Cut" Soundtrack On Vinyl

MONDO ENTERS THE RING WITH THE COMPOSER'S CUT OF THE " CREED " SOUNDTRACK ON VINYL. Mondo announces the Creed soundtrack, available for the first time ever on vinyl. Compiled by Ludwig Göransson himself, this "Composer's Cut" is the first time the film's score has been released without dialogue tracks and features four never before released bonus tracks. The soundtrack will be available for purchase on February 8th at Mondotees.com. "In the world of Adonis, Bill Conti's iconic Rocky score weighs as heavy as Apollo's legacy. Without even getting into the soundtracks for the various sequels, the music of Rocky looms large over the franchise's legacy, but Ludwig Göransson's score for Creed goes round for round with the greats and truly stands on its own. It's powerful, and emotional without leaning heavily on nostalgia," said Mondo Record Label Manager Mo Shafeek. "I'm so excited to finally have my score fo

Lupita Nyong'o In Talks To Join Black Panther

THR is reporting Lupita Nyong'o , who won an Oscar for her performance in 12 Years a Slave , is in negotiations to star opposite Chadwick Boseman in Marvel Studios’ Black Panther . Ryan Coogler , who wrote and directed Creed , is helming the comic book movie as well as writing the script. Boseman and Black Panther were introduced in Captain America: Civil War , which crossed the $700 million worldwide mark in under a week and a half. The character, whose name is T’Challa, is the warrior king of Wakanda, Marvel’s fictional African nation that is rich in an unbreakable alloy called vibranium. N’yongo’s character has not been revealed, although she will be the Panther’s love interest. Black Panther has a Feb. 2, 2018, release date, with production set to start in early 2017. N’yongo last appeared as the alien Maz Kanata in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and lent her voice for the wolf Raksha in The Jungle Book. She also is attached to star in DreamWorks’ Intelligent Life

#CreedMovie Sequel Coming In 2017

Variety is reporting MGM is eyeing a November 2017 release date for the sequel to “ Creed ,” That would allow the film to open exactly two years after the first chapter starring Michael B. Jordan hit theaters. The Warner Bros. release has gone on to gross more than $105 million at the domestic box office and land Sylvester Stallone a Golden Globe for best supporting actor. “That’s my goal,” MGM CEO Gary Barber told Variety on Sunday night at the Golden Globes of his release plan, adding that the date hasn’t been set in stone yet. If the movie does come out that soon, it could mean that Ryan Coogler — who is in talks to direct Marvel’s “ Black Panther ” –might not be able to return as director. In a recent cover story with Variety, Stallone alluded to the possibility that Coogler would be an executive producer of the second “Creed” due to scheduling. “I know Ryan is going to be gone for a couple years,” Stallone said. “There’s a diminishing time acceptance of a sequel.” St

(EXCLUSIVE) #BoxOffice Report: 'Star Wars' To Overtake 'Avatar' Domestic Record

The sci-fi film will achieve the impossible in record time. Story by Matt Cummings The Force truly is with this one. At a stunning at $742.2 million domestically, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now only $18.3m away from overtaking Avatar as the all-time top-grossing domestic film. With the third-weekend $90.24m sum, TFA took in as much money as some first-run weekend numbers. But the Holy Grail of records - the all-time domestic winner - is the real prize. Held by some as once unbeatable, Avatar 's dominance at No. 1 will likely fall sometime on Tuesday, and will do so in the shortest time ever. At just 16 days, TFA is the fastest film ever to reach the top spot; as a matter of comparison, Avatar took 72 days to do the same. This weekend's box office was once again dominated by Episode VII , which overtook the 2nd highest-grossing release Titanic 's $658.7m and Jurassic Park 's $652.3m. But there were some records TFA didn't beat: the act

(EXCLUSIVE) #BoxOffice Report: #TheForceAwakens Crushes Several Records in Premiere

Just how big was The Force Awakens this weekend? Read on to find out! Story by Matt Cummings Star Wars: The Force Awakens stormed into local theaters over the weekend, setting several box office records along the way. Some could see it coming: October's trailer release on ESPN generated huge interest, which eventually led to a record pre-sale that saw website crashes and frantic efforts by fans to score first-day tickets. On Monday, Disney reported the final stunning numbers: $247.9m domestically, which shatters the previously held record by Jurassic World earlier this year. And yet, that massive number is only one of several records which The Force Awakens broke. Here are just a few, as provided by BoxOfficeMojo: $57m in its Thursday night "preview", besting Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($43.5m) $119.1m on Friday, beating, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($91m) $247.9m domestically, beating Jurassic World ($208.8m)

(EXCLUSIVE) #BoxOffice Report: @TheHungerGames Leads Worst Weekend Since 1998

Another week, another disastrous opening for an Oscar contender. Story by Matt Cummings It's clear that while a Ron Howard/Chris Hemsworth marriage looks good on paper, audiences just aren't sold. This weekend's box office proved once again that a to-notch director and a successful Marvel leading man aren't enough to guarantee box office win. Such is the story behind In the Heart of the Sea , as it floundered in the open water with a second place opening to a film that's been in theaters for four weeks. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 kept its No. 1 status for another week, earning just $11.3m. It's second film in the Hunger Games franchise to manage a four-weekend run, and the first since Furious 7 did it back when the summer began. But the news ins't all good: Mockingjay 2 is still the fourth best overall performer in the franchise, crossing just $564m worldwide. At No. 2 is the aforementioned In the Heart of the Sea , making ju

(EXCLUSIVE) #BoxOffice Report: @TheHungerGames Leads, Others Disappoint

Mockingjay Part 2 leads in its second week, while another newbie suffers a disastrous opening. Story by Matt Cummings The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 topped a long Thanksgiving weekend box office which saw yet another disastrous opening for a newcomer live action and disappointing numbers for an animated film. With all of this negativity spreading into December, it's time to start asking what will bring out audiences without the title Star Wars: The Force Awakens . Repeating at the top spot is Mockingjay Part 2 took in an estimated $51.6m, dropping only 49.7%. It's still playing far behind its predecessors, but is still making good money overseas, having crossed the $440m threshold. In second place is Pixar's The Good Dinosaur , earning $39.19m over the three-day weekend. That number is the worst for Pixar since A Bug's Life and 1995's original Toy Story . Still, it received an "A" CinemaScore, which could mean a long run into De

Movie Review: 'Creed'

Creed re-invigorates the Rocky story as much as it celebrates the rise of another familiar Balboa name. Review by Matt Cummings For all the misses behind the recent slew of boxing genre films, it’s clear that audiences desire its inclusion with comic book and other action films. And while Creed celebrates the return of the beloved Rocky name, it also delivers a fairly powerful human story. Adonis Johnson (Alex Hendersonm) is a troubled orphan whose stay in the LA juvenile detention center is relieved when an unexpected visit from Mary Anne Creed (Phylicia Rashad) reveals that he is the illegitimate son of the late Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). Fast-forward 20 years, and Adonis (Michael B. Jordan) has decided that his plush life and recent promotion aren’t enough, and decides to box illegally in Tijuana. Against the wishes of his mother, Andonis leaves LA for Philadelphia, in the hopes that none other than Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) will agree to train him. Afte
