X-Men: Dark Phoenix Poster & Trailer Arriving Tomorrow

Fox’s X-Men movies have had a strange, and occasionally strained, relationship with comic book canon throughout their nearly 20-year existence, but new teases for Dark Phoenix display a couple of cuts aimed squarely at the longtime X-Fan. In teasing the debut of a new trailer for the latest — and final — Fox X-Men installment, the new poster for Dark Phoenix has been revealed, showing not only Sophie Turner ’s Jean Grey in both “regular” and “powered by a cosmic entity” flavors, but also targeting readers of the early 2000s New X-Men comic book run by Grant Morrison, Frank Quitely et al, where Jean’s new X-Men costume originated. Longterm fans of the movies will appreciate that Turner’s Phoenix outfit echoes the Phoenix costume worn by Famke Janssen in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. It should be noted that it’s also not a million miles away from the costume worn by Magneto in the climax of the Morrison New X-Men comics, as illustrated by Phil Jimenez — file under “unlikely coinc

X-Men: Apocalypse Teaser Poster

There have been sneak peeks and images of the various characters, but the trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse is on its way. Before that drops, however, here comes the Silver Surfer-like herald of the teaser poster. It’s a fairly basic image, showing the traditional metallic movie X looking like it’s under some serious heat, which is what our heroes will be feeling this time around thanks to Oscar Isaac’s titular threat, ready to cause trouble for James McAvoy’s Professor X, Michael Fassbender’s Magneto and the rest. The film’s story finds our heroes split across the globe: The Prof is still trying to help mutants blend in with the world, while Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) is on her own crusade to settle matters between humans and mutants in a more violent fashion. Magneto, meanwhile, is opting for a quieter life of love in Poland. At least, that is, until Apocalypse comes a-calling and recruits him… And the endlessly dangerous mutant is also taking on what has always been known in the

First Look At #XMenApocalypse

Though we’ve seen concept art and one or two behind the scenes images courtesy of director Bryan Singer, this year’s San Diego Comic-Con was the first chance to glimpse the big bad of X-Men: Apocalypse and some of the other characters as they’ll appear in the movie. Now, with Entertainment Weekly’s latest issue, there are some fresh images for all. See all the images after the Jump... Oscar Isaac playing Apocalypse, given that he’s pretty much hidden behind layers of make-up and prosthetics to play the ancient, powerful mutant. Clip From X-Men: Days of Future Past #RogueCut

X-Men fans have been eagerly anticipating the blu-ray release of X-Men: Days of Future Past Rogue Cut . This version of the blockbuster, out July 14, features the subplot involving Anna Paquin’s Rogue, a section that ultimately had to be cut from the film. Director Bryan Singer originally broke the news of the major change with EW back in late 2013. “Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous,” explained Singer. “It’s a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go. Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in.” Fans will now get to see how Rogue originally fit into Days of Future Past. In this exclusive clip, Bobby (Shawn Ashmore) and Magneto (Ian McKellen) attempt to rescue Rogue, who’s being tested on by scientists inside Cerebro. Fans who purc

Director Bryan Singer broadcasted via Periscope live from the set of X-Men: Apocalypse this morning to share a very special announcement with fans. The X-Men: Days of Future Past Rogue Cut is coming to Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD July 14th. Anna Paquin’s iconic character X-Men character, Rogue, actually had scenes in “X-Men: Days Of Future Past”, but it got cut because it just didn’t fit into the big picture that was always meant to focus on Xavier (James McAvoy) Thankfully, 20th Century Fox wants to bring you these deleted scenes in the movie’s own extended version; these scenes will be added back to the film and re-released as the “Rogue Cut” which contains extra footage, not just Rogue scenes, but other sequences involving other characters as well. Olivia Munn has joined the cast of “ X-Men: Apocalypse ,” signing on as Betsy Braddock, a.k.a. Psylocke. Director Bryan Singer posted the news on Instagram on Monday. Psylocke made her first appearance in the comicbooks in 1976, but hasn’t had a large presence in the films. The mutant’s only movie appearance was in 2006’s “X-Men: The Last Stand,” where she served as one of the minor villains following Magneto and was played by Mei Melançon. Psylocke’s powers have been altered a few times, but they include telepathy and telekinesis, among others. Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, who played Magneto and Professor X respectively, will not be returning for the next installment. “Apocalypse” will be Jennifer Lawrence’s last appearance as Mystique, she recently confirmed. Rose Byrne Returns For X-Men: Apocalypse

Last week, Bryan Singer announced that 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse will reintroduce Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Storm to the mutant superteam franchise. Now, EW can exclusively reveal that Apocalypse will feature the return trip for another franchise player: Rose Byrne ’s Moira MacTaggert, the CIA agent and Professor X love interest introduced in 2011’s First Class. “She’s a significant character in the movie,” says Apocalypse writer Simon Kinberg, returning to the franchise after Days of Future Past. “We ended First Class with Charles having wiped portions of her memory of her experience with the X-Men. They are, essentially, strangers to her when she meets them.” Apocalypse is set in the early ’80s, roughly 20 years after First Class, and Kinberg is mum about how she ties into the film. But expect to see further developments in her interaction with Professor Xavier. “It’s certainly a rich relationship that we started to dig into in First Class, and would like to mine more in this on

Movie Review: Taken 3

Third time is no charm for Bryan Mills' skills. Taken 3 Review by Brandon Wolfe Some franchises have a heck of a time justifying their continuing existence. While some films have premises conducive to repeat adventures, others are strictly one-shot-deals that simply aren’t built to spawn offspring. Die Hard was seemingly one of these films, but it somehow managed to buck the odds for at least a couple of sequels. More recently, someone got it into their head that The Hangover had trilogy potential when it very clearly only made sense as a single film. Now they’ve squeezed two sequels out of Taken , the 2009 sleeper hit where Liam Neeson used his now-infamous particular set of skills to take out the Eurotrash who absconded with his teenage daughter. Taken was a lean, satisfying, hugely effective action-thriller, but it was also a closed loop. When Neeson’s Bryan Mills got his daughter back, that was the logical conclusion of that story, until that story had to go and mak

Maggie Grace To Appear In Taken 3

In news that should surprise precisely no one, the first actor besides Liam Neeson to secure a deal for Taken 3 is Maggie Grace . She'll be appearing once again as Kim, the daughter of the Action Dad with a particular set of skills. In the first film she was a passive, drugged kidnap victim, but in Taken 2 she was more than up for throwing the odd grenade. In 3 we fully predict she'll have progressed to full-on CIA mercenary, running a black-op in Val Verde and drafting in Papa Bryan when things go pear shaped. Neeson will then retire from the series, handing over the reigns to Grace for Takens 4, 5 and 6. In a surprise crossover, she'll then also show up in that female Expendables thing everyone's talking about. We made that shit up, obviously. Nobody yet knows what the storyline of Taken 3 will entail plot-wise. What we do know is that producer Luc Besson and his usual cohort Robert Mark Kamen have bashed out the screenplay in record time, and that Europacorp

Liam Neeson Is Getting Paid For TAKEN 3

Get ready for a third installment of Taken , the franchise launched by EuropaCorp’s Luc Besson and released by 20th Century Fox. I’m told that Liam Neeson is closing a deal in the vicinity of $20 million to reprise his role as Bryan Mills, the retired CIA agent who used his brutal skills after his daughter was kidnapped in France to be sold into sex slavery. Neeson was a reluctant participant in the first sequel but got paid in the $15 million neighborhood. Now I hear he’s getting another raise, and that EuropaCorp is planning to start production in February. Next will come the effort to make deals with Maggie Grace , who played his daughter in the first two films, and Famke Janssen , who played his ex-wife. They have a script well in the works from Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, who teamed for the first two films. No director has yet been set, but don’t be surprised if Olivier Megaton comes back. He’s the Besson protege who directed the last film, which cost around $45 million and g

Hansel & Gretel Blu-ray Review. Looks & Sounds Stunning, Even If It's Supplements Disappoint.

Hansel & Gretel Blu-ray Review By: MattInRC Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters arrives on Blu-ray with excellent video and audio, but is short on supplements. The beginning of the film year is usually filled with driftwood designed to push moviegoers to see Oscar contenders: 2013 bucked that trend in a big way by delivering us excellent fare such as Gangster Squad, Mama, and Warm Bodies. While none turned in exceptional numbers - sending the industry into a tailspin that took until May to overcome - that didn't mean quality was left at the door. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters was another example, delivering wickedly delicious fun, great action, a tight (albeit short) story, and solid acting by its stars. Its arrival this week onto Blu-ray is a mixed bag but not in the places you'd expect. The Movie - 4/5 Based on the Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm fairy tale of the same name, HG:WH is basically Part 2 of the story, following the adventures of siblings Hansel ( Jerem
