David Ayer's Circling Scarface Remake

Universal has been planning to make a new version of ambitious criminal immigrant story Scarface for a few years, but it has been churning through writers, directors and potential actors without anything sticking. It would appear the producers are ready to go back to someone who at least took a crack at the script in the past, with Suicide Squad's David Ayer now in early talks to direct. Ayer did some work on the screenplay back in 2011, but it has since been through the hands of several people, including Joel and Ethan Coen, who polished a draft by Jonathan Herman. Diego Luna is attached to play the main character, a Mexican chasing the American dream through any means necessary. For a while, Antoine Fuqua was going to make the movie, but scheduling issues led him to drop out in January this year, around the time Luna was linked to the lead. Now Ayer is seriously considering taking a story that has previously been adapted in 1932 and, most famously in 1983. But even he has

Harley Quinn To Return In Gotham City Sirens Directed By David Ayer

THR is reporting Robbie will reprise her role as DC villainess Harley Quinn. David Ayer is back in the business of DC comic villains. The filmmaker, who directed Warner Bros.’ all-bad guy comic book movie Suicide Squad, is reuniting with that film’s star, Margot Robbie , for Gotham City Sirens, a feature project that will showcase the top female villains from the DC stable. Ayer will direct and produce the project with Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn, the part-time girlfriend of the Joker who is currently DC's most popular female character. Robbie also is executive producing. Sirens was a recent comic series from DC that focused on the popular villainesses from Batman’s rogue gallery. Among them were Quinn; Catwoman, Batman’s sometime love interest; and Poison Ivy, who uses plants and their toxins to get what she wants. Geneva Robertson-Dworet, a top female writer in the action sphere who also has penned scripts for the Tomb Raider remake and Warners'

#SuicideSquad Extended Cut Coming To Blu-ray Dec. 13

Warner Bros. has released a teaser for the home entertainment release. It looks like Suicide Squad will be getting an extended cut after all. Warner Bros. has released a short teaser announcing an extended cut for the film's home entertainment release, which will be available on Digital HD Nov. 15 and Blu-ray Dec. 13. It feels good to be bad...Assemble a team of the world's most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government's disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren't picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it's every man for himself? A secret government agency,

Suicide Squad Blame Game Already Happening

THR is reporting the upheaval like that behind Warner Bros.'s DC team-up is becoming a staple of studio franchise filmmaking. "Better late than never." That was one Warner Bros. executive's reaction to the excitement at Suicide Squad 's splashy Aug. 1 premiere in New York. Tracking indicates the film could open to more than $140 million domestic and potentially hand the studio its first unequivocal megahit since American Sniper's $547.4 million in December 2014. With March's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice grossing $873 million worldwide but failing to impress audiences or reach the hoped-for $1 billion mark, Warners still urgently needs to jump-start its critical DC Comics universe, raising the stakes for Suicide Squad, which cost at least $175 million to make. Movie Review: #SuicideSquad- Yet if the villain team-up ultimately works — and it has drawn some harsh early reviews — it will be in spite of the kind of behind-the-scenes drama tha

Movie Review: #SuicideSquad

Suicide Squad is two parts Bat-crazy, one part Almost-Got-It. Review by Matt Cummings With the failure of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice luckily in our rear mirror, the DC movie franchise already feels like one at a crossroads. Having recently misused what is arguably the better collection of characters and stories (when compared to Marvel), fans and critics have rightfully doubted whether DC and Warner Brothers have what it takes to give Marvel a genuine contender. And while it's got another forgettable villain and squeezes too many stories into one film, Writer/Director David Ayer's Suicide Squad arrives to boldly state that DC is not dead yet. Having already locked up a collection of dangerous metahumans including Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), and Diablo (Jay Hernandez), the shadowy government agent Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) hatches a plan to use them as di
