BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Disney and Pixar’s “Turning Red” Trailer

Disney and Pixar’s “ Turning Red ” introduces Mei Lee (voice of Rosalie Chiang ), a confident, dorky 13-year-old torn between staying her mother’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. Her protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming (voice of Sandra Oh ), is never far from her daughter—an unfortunate reality for the teenager. And as if changes to her interests, relationships and body weren’t enough, whenever she gets too excited (which is practically ALWAYS), she “poofs” into a giant red panda! Directed by Academy Award® winner Domee Shi (Pixar short “Bao”) and produced by Lindsey Collins “Turning Red releases on March 11, 2022.    Discuss this with fellow SJF fans on Facebook . Movie Review: #BEAUTYANDTHEBEAST Gorgeous!

Gorgeous! RAMA delivers another review. To say that Disney’s live action BEAUTY AND THE BEAST movie is better than the 1991 animated classic may be a bit of a stretch. But this is as dazzling, enchanting and marvelous as today’s digital visual effects can offer you. I think despite the obvious autotune effort, Emma Watson does a good job of carrying the legacy; portraying my favorite Disney princess ever, the most gorgeous bookworm in the land, Belle. This remake basically takes everything you loved about the previous version and makes it significantly seem more jubilant, like a big broadway celebration. Directed by Bill Condon, based on the 1991 animated film, the screenplay for this one is written by Stephen Chbosky and Evan Spiliotopouous, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST comes to life in this cinematic journey of a bright independent young woman, Belle, who takes the place of her imprisoned father in a castle inhabited by the beast and his porcelain staff. In time, Belle befriends t

Movie Review: #MOANA Enjoyable!

Enjoyable! But it's way too Disney Rama is here again with another review. If there’s such a crime for being too Disney, MOANA would be guilty of it. Now, before you attack me with torches and pitchforks, let me say that I enjoy this film, but in the traditional Disney animation sense, it really doesn’t get more generic or more formulaic than MOANA. Directed by the team who gave us “The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “Hercules,” and “The Princess And The Frog,” Ron Clements and John Musker this time take us to the islands of oceania, across the vast pacific where a teenager named Moana, wonderfully voiced by newcomer Auli’i Cravalho, dreams of voyaging across the open sea, just like her people’s ancestors did. Her father however, the head chief, doesn’t want that for his daughter, he wants her safe. But under the guidance of her late grandmother, Moana decides to venture off in order to find the demigod Maui, voiced by Dwayne Johnson, who years ago stole a certain object tha

Han Solo Casting Narrowing Down

Variety is reporting Disney and Lucasfilm are inching closer to finding their young Han Solo for the upcoming untitled “ Star Wars ” spinoff. After seeing thousands of actors, execs have cut the list down to about a dozen actors with Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, Logan Lerman , “Brooklyn” star Emory Cohen and “Everybody Wants Some” actor Blake Jenner among the names making the cut. NDAs and test deals are still being worked out, but producer Kathleen Kennedy and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller will begin testing the new group with a decision expected in the next couple of weeks. The film does not shoot until next January, but sources close to the situation say the reason for such an early decision has more to do with another “Star Wars” film currently shooting, rather than the untitled “Han Solo” pic. While insiders were unable to confirm, the new Solo could have a small cameo in “Rogue One: A Star Wars” before appearing in his own

#PrinceCharming Film On It's Way

THR is reporting that Disney is continuing its push into live-action fairy tales, closing a deal for a feature project centering on Prince Charming . Matt Fogel wrote the script, while David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films/TV as well as Tripp Vinson are on board to produce. Disney pioneered the recent and lucrative trend of taking either old animated classics or fairy tales and spinning them into live-action features. And since no other studio has done more to ensconce the idea of Prince Charming into the public mind — with movies such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella — it is most appropriate the studio take a close look at the man as well. Details are being kept behind a moat, but the script is described as a revisionist take on the fairy tales. Mandeville's Alex Young will executive produce. Mandeville is production on Disney’s live-action take of its 1991 classic Beauty and the Beast that stars Emma Watson and Da

Disney/Pixar Short Film Sanjay's Super Team First Look

Through the big eyes of a little boy, director Sanjay Patel has animated his journey from a California kid watching cartoons to a man respecting his father's Indian traditions. USA Today scored the first image from the short which will be premiering in front of The Good Dinosaur (in theaters Nov. 25), the Disney/Pixar short film Sanjay's Super Team begins with a scene similar to Patel's own San Bernardino upbringing. Sanjay is glued to the TV and Dad interrupts by ringing his bell for morning meditation. "I knew exactly what that meant: 'Turn off the TV, Sanjay, and get your tail over here. We're going to chant and count mala beads for half an hour,' " Patel recalls, laughing. "And I'm like, 'I don't really want to do that. I really want to watch Voltron.' " Yet the little Sanjay in Super Team finds something cooler than his superhero show when he joins his father: Three Hindu deities come alive to take care of a p

Spider-man Reboot: Rumors Abound

Has Matthew McConaughey Found The Right Script? By David Clark The rumor mill is in full swing, first it held news about Krang in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie; the latest rumor surfing the web is McConaughey taking on the roll of Norman Osborn in the new Spiderman reboot . Even the role of Spiderman is not yet solidified though, Asa Butterfield would seem to be one of the top choices to fill the web slinger’s shoes. Will McConaughey be joining Asa Butterfield in the near future? As of yet this is still a an unsubstantiated rumor but it is not as if McConaughey has not given people a reason to believe it might be true. After-all, he did recently broach this very topic in an interview. McConaughey let it slip that both DC and Marvel have approached him regarding roles within their respective universes. McConaughey had this to say on the topic, “It’s very simple for me. I look at the script. Is the opportunity exciting? Is the money that comes with it

Brad Bird Teases 'Incredibles 2,' Hints at 'Star Wars'

He also teases the possibility of joining a galaxy far, far away. Story by Matt Cummings With Disney's Tomorrowland ready to premiere in two weeks, Director Brad Bird diverted attention (if only slightly) during a recent interview with Collider , in which he told reporters that The Incredibles 2 is finally happening. We wrote about it back in 2011 , but now it appears the project is finally getting underway. While he's got "a bunch of pages" ready, Bird didn't elaborate as to what time period the superhero family comedy would take place. If you haven't seen the original, Mr. Incredible (voiced by Craig T. Nelson) and his family try to live a normal life when they're called back into action against the evil Syndrome (Jason Lee). The 2004 movie made over $260 million domestically, but didn't rate well with some critics. However, it's been one of the most debated subjects for fans and animated lovers alike: the question hasn't s

Josh Trank Leaves 'Star Wars' Spinoff

Fan speculation about his 'Celebration' absence proves correct. Story Matt Cummings Just one year after he was announced to direct an as-of-yet Star Wars spinoff movie (the first belonging to Gareth Edwards' Rogue One ), Director Josh Trank ( Chronicle and Fantastic Four reboot) has departed the project. The announcement was made on Friday by Trank, who had this to say: "After a year of having the incredible honor of developing with the wonderful and talented people at Lucasfilm, I’m making a personal decision to move forward on a different path. I’ve put a tremendous amount of thought into this, and I know deep down in my heart that I want to pursue some original creative opportunities. That said, the Star Wars universe has always been one of my biggest influences, and I couldn’t be more excited to witness its future alongside my millions of fellow Star Wars fans. I want to thank my friends Kathleen Kennedy, Kiri Hart, Simon Kinberg, and everyone at Lu

Olivia Wilde Returns for #Tron3

She re-joins Garrett Hedlund, but no word on Jeff Bridges. Story by Matt Cummings When Tron: Legacy debuted in 2010, it didn't exactly win everyone over, at least not right away. Chided by critics as missing the spirit of the 1982 trippy computer-generated cult classic, it's gone on to become a rather beloved forerunner to more recent films. From the beautiful imagery by Director Joseph Kosinkski to the huge orchestral score by Daft Punk, Tron: Legacy has stuck around in moviegoer's minds far longer than more recent, established franchises ( Amazing Spider-man , Transformers ). And while a follow-up was only recently guaranteed, it appears that another critical component has re-joined for another adventure. According to The Hollywood Reporter , Actress Olivia Wilde is set to return, along with Garrett Hedlund in the follow-up currently titled Tron 3 . Wilde, who played the computer-generated-butt-kicking Quorra, escaped with Sam Flynn (Hedlund) to the re

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 Begins Filming

Will Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley return? Story by Matt Cummings For fans of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, it's been a bumpy road as of late. Two excellent films - Curse of the Black Pearl and Dead Man's Chest - were followed up by two thoroughly disappointing ones, in At World's End and On Stranger Tides . Some have pointed out that the failure of the last two were due to poor character development of leads Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, and that their absence in On Stranger Tides sealed the fate of one of the most successful live-action series in history. Still others blame the decision to feature Actor Johnny Depp's quirky Jack Sparrow so prominently in On Stranger Tides as the prominent reason for that film's failure. Debate was fierce over whether the Knightley-Bloom-Depp triangle was the reason for the series' early success, and whether or not that relationship should be renewed. As Dead Men Tell No Tales

Felicity Jones To Star In The Star Wars Stand-Alone Film

After a series of hush-hush readings and tests, Lucasfilm and Disney have zeroed in on Oscar-nominated actress Felicity Jones for the female lead in the Star Wars stand-alone film. Jones is now in talks to star in the project, which Gareth Edwards is directing and Chris Weitz — who was just hired last week — is writing. Weitz is replacing Gary Whitta, who penned the first draft. Actresses were meeting, reading and testing last week in Los Angeles for the role, with Tatiana Maslany and Rooney Mara among those in the mix. The secrecy surrounding the project is thicker than the mists of Dagobah, and it is even unclear which character the stand-alone is focusing on. Sources say that Aaron Paul and Edgar Ramirez are on the interest list for the male lead. Disney had no comment. The movie has a release date of Dec. 16, 2016. Jones is currently making the awards season rounds for The Theory of Everything, for which she snagged a best actress Oscar nomination for her portraya

Was George Lucas Working on Episode VII Before the Disney Deal?

We pontificate on how such a plan might have been received by fans. Story by Matt Cummings It's not too often these days that people can agree on something. This happened long ago and too far away when Director George Lucas' Star Wars prequel Episode I: The Phantom Menace and its follow ups. After what was the most successful and perhaps best trilogy to that time, the disappointment at several aspects of Menace was abrupt and severe, leaving fans to ponder a world without Star Wars in it. Then, something magical happened: Disney purchased it in 2012 for $2 billion, while at the same time setting dates for Episode VII: The Force Awakens , as well as a series of origin/spin-offs by directors John Trank ( Chronicle ) and Gareth Edwards ( Godzilla ). In one fell swoop, a beloved franchise had returned and its leader - and perhaps destroyer - was whisked away to seeming retirement. Then came news today that gave the entire Internet a temporary shudder: Lucas was pl
