Nick Diaz Out Carlos Condit In For Main Event At UFC 137

This is Aaron Rodgers skipping the Super Bowl, Roy Halladay passing on the World Series. An elite professional athlete doesn’t do what Nick Diaz did, not on the precipice of what could have been the greatest night of his professional life. UFC president Dana White made the dramatic move Wednesday to yank Diaz from a welterweight championship bout against Georges St. Pierre that would have topped the card at UFC 137 on Oct. 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas about 10 minutes before a bizarre news conference began in the deserted arena. Nick Diaz is known for his wild fighting style in the cage. But he's even better known for his unpredictability outside it. White opened the news conference by recounting the chain of events of the last several days. He noted how Diaz missed two flights to Toronto, another to Las Vegas and how he couldn’t be certain Diaz would show up for the fight. Only moments before White and St. Pierre walked on stage, White pulled

UFC 121 Fighter Salaries And Medical Updates

UFC 121 Fighter Salaries And Medical Updates The UFC 121: Lesnar vs. Velasquez fighter salaries were released on Tuesday by officials at the California State Athletic Commission. The main event featured Cain Velasquez finishing off Brock Lesnar in the opening round to capture the UFC heavyweight championship. Even though Brock lost the fight he is still a winner in the salary department. The event took place on Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., before 14,856 fans. The following figures are based on the fighter salary information that promoters are required by law to submit to the state athletic commissions, including the winners’ bonuses. Any undisclosed bonuses that a promoter also pays its fighters, but does not disclose to the athletic commissions (such as pay-per-view bonuses), are not included in the figures below. The total fighter payroll for UFC 121 totaled $1.513 million with Brock Lesnar and Tito Ortiz , both in losing efforts, topping

UFC Champs VS WEC Champs Could Be On The Horizon

UFC Champs VS WEC Champs Could Be On The Horizon I am a huge UFC and WEC fan this news is music to my ears. For more than a year, Zuffa officials have been adamant with decries that the Ultimate Fighting Championship and its sister promotion, World Extreme Cagefighting , will operate as independent organizations. But for the first time, a company executive has suggested the WEC may get a promotional push by the UFC, and it could result in superfights between the two organizations' biggest stars. Today during a UFC Fan Expo London 2010 Q&A session at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre in London, UFC co-owner and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta admitted the time likely has come for the UFC to help its smaller partner. After all, while the WEC has produced some of the best and most competitive events of the past few years, ratings have sunk, attendance figures have flat-lined (when WEC star Urijah Faber isn't on the card), and yet the company continues producing some of the spo

Brock Lesnar Healed And Ready To Return To UFC

Brock Lesnar Healed And Ready To Return To UFC As recently as early January, Brock Lesnar was convinced he needed surgery to deal with a case of diverticulitis – a condition that essentially left a hole in his intestine and put his career as Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight title holder in jeopardy. He might be out a year. Or it might be two. Or it might be forever. Instead, a series of doctor’s visits and tests have revealed what both Lesnar and UFC president Dana White described as a “miracle.” The big guy is healed and ready to return to the Octagon this summer, probably against the winner of the fight between Frank Mir and Shane Carwin in March. “Let’s be clear, I’m still the heavyweight champion,” Lesnar growled, in trademark fashion, on ESPN on Wednesday morning. There couldn’t be better news for the UFC and fans of mixed martial arts. Lesnar isn’t just apparently well again (although really, who knows if there could be a setback or another episode), but his return to

UFC's Brock Lesnar Postpones Fight

UFC's Brock Lesnar Postpones Fight This is bad news for the UFC. With Brock Lesnar being such a huge draw to the gate and PPV this puts a little monkey wrench into the mix. But looks like Dana's got it taken care of. He has moved up the Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin fight to the Nov. 21 main event slot for UFC 106 I know that the numbers will not be the same but it's Tito come back to the UFC after all that he has been through(Dana BS, back surgery) and it will be nice to see The Huntington Badboy fight again. Some might call him a douche but I for one am a Tito fan and hope he kicks the shit out of Forrest. Brock Lesnar, the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s massive heavyweight titleholder, was forced to withdraw Monday from his highly anticipated Nov. 21 title defense in Las Vegas against Shane Carwin. Carwin, via his Twitter feed , said the fight will be rescheduled for UFC 108 on Jan. 2. UFC president Dana White confirmed the news to Yahoo! Sports. White said Lesnar
