BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

#DonnieDarko Returns To Theaters To Celebrate The Official 15th Anniversary Release

Arrow Films has announced the March 31st domestic theatrical debut of the 4K restoration of Richard Kelly’s cult hit Donnie Darko . Following a wildly successful re-release in the UK for its fifteenth anniversary, the film will return to theaters in cities across the United States. Fifteen years before “Stranger Things” combined science-fiction, Spielberg-ian touches and 80s nostalgia to much acclaim, Kelly set the template and the benchmark with his debut feature, Donnie Darko. Initially beset with distribution problems, it would slowly find its audience and emerge as arguably the first cult classic of the new millennium. The 4K restoration of Donnie Darko will premiere at the Vista in Los Angeles on March 30th, and officially open in Los Angeles at the Cinefamily and in New York at Metrograph on March 31st. Described by director Richard Kelly as “The Catcher in the Rye as told by Philip K. Dick”, Donnie Darko combines an eye-catching, eclectic cast: pre-stardom Jake (Nightc

New #POINTBREAK Poster

We’ve seen the film’s two leads, the new poster shows off some more of the attitude (and the altitude). This new version of the extreme sports criminals action-thriller finds Luke Bracey taking over the Johnny Utah role once occupied by Keanu Reeves , while Edgar Ramirez slips on the wetsuit as Bodhi, formerly played by Patrick Swayze . Once more, Utah is an FBI agent in way over his head, working undercover with a group of thrill-seekers who also like to pull off staggering crimes. Director Ericson Core’s take on the story ups the stakes even higher, with the criminals not limiting themselves to basic bank robberies, but trying truly audacious heists that involve all sorts of different sports to carry them out. Although if we’re honest, they’re going to have to go some to match up with Dominic Toretto and the Fast & Furious crew. The poster suggests that the Point Break lot obey the laws of gravity, while Dom and co. whisk said laws into protein shakes and chug them down

Gerard Butler Drops Out Of Point Break Remake

Gerard Butler has dropped out of Point Break , Alcon’s remake of the early 1990s classic action movie. Butler was to have played the Zen-infused thief originally played by Patrick Swayze , opposite Luke Bracey , who is playing hotshot FBI agent Johnny Utah, originally played by Keanu Reeves . Sources say that the parting of ways occurred because of a confluence of factors. There have been creative differences and a scheduling conflict: Point Break will start shooting in late June, lasting several months, and will take its actors to international locales. But Butler also has on his docket London Has Fallen , the sequel to Olympus Has Fallen , which shoots in the fall in London. Insiders say Alcon is intent on maintaining its start date and will recast the part in the coming weeks. Ericson Core is directing the movie, which has a script by Kurt Wimmer. Alcon’s Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove are producing, along with John Baldecchi, Chris Taylor and Wimmer. Please Leav

Will Gerard Butler Play Bodhizafa In Upcoming Point Break Sequel?

The Scottish actor may be catching a wave in the remake of the 1991 Keanu Reeves - Patrick Swayze action movie, which will be directed by Ericson Core. The movie is eyeing a summer shoot with Ericson Core, the cinematographer behind 2001’s The Fast & the Furious and Daredevil , in the director’s chair. Kurt Wimmer wrote the screenplay for the new film, which is set in the international world of extreme sports as opposed to the Southern California surf scene of the original. The plot of an FBI agent infiltrating a crime ring as well as the names of the principal characters remain the same. Butler will play Bodhi , an expert extreme-sports athlete who seeks nirvana through the conquest of a series of athletic feats such as surfing 100-foot waves. He saves Johnny Utah, the undercover FBI agent, and brings him into the fold of international criminals. The part of Utah is not cast yet. Patrick Swayze played the part in the 1991 movie directed by Kathryn Bigelow . Broderick

"Ghost" TV Show On It's Way

If you can hear the eerie squeaking of a disused potter’s wheel or the haunting strains of Unchained Melody nearby, well… We’re a bit worried about you. It might, however, be because Paramount has decided that Oscar-scooping 1990 supernatural romantic drama Ghost is ripe for a TV adaptation. Akiva Goldsman (the writer of A Beautiful Mind who has just turned his hand to directing with Winter’s Tale) and Jeff Pinkner (one of the show runners on Fringe , with which Goldsman was also involved) have been hired to start working on ideas for the show. It'll be based on the tale of Sam Wheat ( Patrick Swayze in the original), who is murdered in what he believes is a botched robbery. He tries desperately to reconnect with his grieving wife ( Demi Moore ) while avenging his untimely shuffle off the mortal coil. How closely the still-embryonic TV version will follow the story remains unclear at this time. But surely there will be room for a version of OTT psychic Oda Mae Brown, w

POINT BREAK REMAKE HAS Found It's Director

The new version of the film is set in the world of international extreme sports, and like the original involves an undercover FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring. The filmmakers are keeping other plot points under wraps. The Kathryn Bigelow original, starring Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze and Gary Busey , was produced by Largo Entertainment and released by Fox. Known for his cinematography work on the box office success The Fast and the Furious for Universal Pictures and Daredevil for 20th Century Fox, Core made his directorial debut with Disney's Invincible starring Mark Wahlberg . Kosove and Johnson will produce along with Michael DeLuca, John Baldecchi, Chris Taylor and Kurt Wimmer, who also wrote the

RED DAWN Blu-Ray Review. Holds Up Fairly Well...Sort Of

RED DAWN Blu-Ray Review By: MattInRC RED DAWN offers a good (but not great) video and audio experience in a film that holds up fairly well...sort of. As an 80's child who grew up on television's first forays into quality spy thrillers like Airwolf and The Equalizer , I can remember the release of the original  RED DAWN  as more of a yawnfest than a gritty interpretation of a conventional World War III. At the time, I remember thinking that invasion was not only a possibility but a certainty; The Day After had been released in 1983, occupying my nightmares for a week. But, the film never connected with me for some reason - perhaps its happy ending didn't match my new perceptions of war in the nuclear age. To be honest, I've hadn't watched either film since their initial releases because of my impulsive reaction to them. But with the release of the disappointing remake, a revisiting of the original Red Dawn now on Blu-ray made it a little more timely, w
