BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

New #Furious8 Poster

Back in January, Vin Diesel did his usual social media promotion duty and put up the first poster from the eighth Fast & Furious film online, which listed it as Fast 8 . He's back with the new image, which appears to switch the title to Furious 8, while also making us wonder if they're just unveiling the full title word by word... We suppose it makes sense to follow the naming standard set by the seventh film, but it does rather crush our dream of future movies simply taking bits of the title and using them (And 9, anyone?) Regardless, Furious 8 (or whatever it ends up being known as over here) has F. Gary Gray directing Vin and the returning regulars (including Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and Dwayne Johnson) facing off against new villain Charlize Theron in a story that remains a mystery to be discovered a quarter mile at a time. We do know that Kurt Russell's mysterious Mr. Nobody will be back, bringing protege Scott Eastwood along for the ride.

Blu-ray Review: 'Furious 7'

Filled with high-octane stunts and likable additions, Furious 7 roars to a tearful tribute. Review by Matt Cummings WARNING: This review contains SPOILERS. Review by Matt Cummings When Furious 7 arrived in theaters on April 3, 2015 it was unclear whether audiences would accept the inevitable: that Actor Paul Walker - who tragically died in 2013 - would no longer grace this lucrative franchise. Would the film, delayed almost a year as it was re-shot, bring a satisfying conclusion to Walker's Brian O'Conner story arc? Based on its incredible success out-of-the-gate success, the answer was an emphatic yes. Whether it's the best of the series is open to debate, but as it arrives on Blu-ray it's clear that Universal commands the field, with one of the best looking and sounding affairs of the year. The Movie - 4/5 With Owen Shaw (Luke Evans) defeated in London, Team Furious doesn't realize that Shaw's meaner brother Deckard (Jason Statham) h

Since He Cant Have Justin Lin, He Wants Rob Cohen To Direct #FURIOUS8

Back to the matter of 8 … First and most importantly is the SCRIPT, which has to be great. Hopefully the writer will deliver something within the next two weeks… before my Witch Hunter press tour begins. There has always been the desire by Paul to have Rob direct one more, this is what fueled my campaign… I believe that he can and would reset the franchise nicely, returning to what was the core of the film in the beginning… racing. He would also handle the Brian O’connor issue with integrity, given that he and David Ayer were the ones who initially created that beloved character in the first place. Ultimately we all want the best film to honor what we have created and what you the audience has adopted as your favorite franchise. I will leave this matter in the studios hands for a moment while I release The Last Witch Hunter and start production of the long awaited “Xander Returns”. Again, we make these films with Our hearts. #RondaRousey To Play Herself In Upcoming Biopic

Variety is reporting UFC fighter Ronda Rousey is making moves for her film career, and this latest project hits close to home. Paramount Pictures has secured the rights to Rousey’s New York Times bestselling autobiography “ My Fight/Your Fight ,” with Rousey playing herself. Mark Bomback on board to adapt the book, while Mary Parent is producing along with Rousey, with Bomback serving as exec producer. “It’s a real honor to be a part of bringing Ronda’s incredible story to the bigscreen,” Parent said. Written by Rousey with her sister Maria Burns Ortiz, “My Fight/Your Fight” is an inspirational story celebrating the accomplishments of Rousey, who faced extraordinary challenges on her path to glory. The book was published in spring by Regan Arts. No date has been set yet on when the project will go into production as Bomback has just begun adapting the book. Rousey is expected to fight one more time before the end of the year and will then shoot the Pete Berg-directed actio

2015 #BoxOffice Mid-year Report

How has the 2015 box office performed compared to 2014? Read on to find out. Story by Matt Cummings From late 2014, critics and writers were ready to proclaim the 2015 box office as the most successful in history. We too felt a certain sense of destiny, with so many great films arriving throughout the year. We even wrote about it here , here , and here . Then January arrived, and one dud after another came with it, including Blackhat , Mortdecai , The Boy Next Door , and Project Almanac . February was actually worse, with Jupiter Ascending and Seventh Son dropping stinking loads at our door before running off. But within that mire of disaster, we also saw great films, including Paddington and Kingsman: The Secret Service , both of which kept many theaters from turning into mausoleums. You can read our QUARTER 1 REPORT here . As we pass the half-way mark of 2015, it's time to compare this year's box office to 2014, and to determine if everyone was right ab

James Wan Will Direct Aquaman

JAMES WAN TO DIRECT JASON MOMOA IN WARNER BROS. PICTURES’ UPCOMING AQUAMAN FEATURE Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that director James Wan (“Furious Seven,” “The Conjuring”) will take the helm of the Studio’s upcoming Aquaman feature film, with Jason Momoa (“Game of Thrones”) starring as the sea-dwelling Super Hero. The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, Warner Bros. Pictures. Silverman stated, “We’ve been so lucky to have worked with James, first on New Line’s ‘The Conjuring’ and now on their upcoming ‘The Conjuring 2,’ and are thrilled to have him on board as we continue to expand our DC slate. The Aquaman film will be a major tentpole picture for us and James’s span of work has proven him able to take on any manner of project, bringing his incredible creative talent and unique voice to the material.” Wan will also be supervising the script by Kurt Johnstad (“300,” “300: Rise of an Empire”).

Dwayne Johnson Returning for Furious 8, In Talks for Hobbs Spin-Off

Hobbs is here to stay. By Brandon Wolfe Even though his appearance in Furious 7 amounted to little more than an extended cameo, Dwayne Johnson has revealed that he will indeed be riding shotgun for the upcoming Furious 8 (or whatever wacky thing they'll actually call it). For, as the actor himself says, “It can’t go on without Hobbs.” The actor has also addressed the possibility of a Hobbs spin-off film. “We all are interested in it,” says Johnson. “I just had a big conversation with the studio. So we’ll see. I still think for me personally we’ve created a little bit of space for him in 7 and the gauge is set for what the audience will want. That’s my take on it, you know, but a lot of other people have to have input.” While it seemed like Johnson’s punishingly busy work schedule would rule out further Furious appearances (especially since the cast is so large now that the series arguably doesn’t need him), it is great to hear that he is indeed going to remain a part

'Mad Max,' 'Pitch Perfect' To Unseat 'Ultron' This Weekend

Read on to learn why this weekend isn't all bad for Marvel. Story by Matt Cummings With Avengers: Age of Ultron passing $1 billion internationally this week, the film has been a massive success, and should eclipse Furious 7 as the top domestic film of 2015 by the end of this weekend. Still, the latest superhero team-up hasn't fared nearly as well as its 2012 predecessor: as of this posting (10 days since its North American release), it's off nearly $70 million. That's a lot, and it's soon about to be deposed from its two-week throne as Universal’s sequel Pitch Perfect 2 and Warner Brothers' Mad Max: Fury Road arrive. Each of these releases is looking to take in as much as $50 million each, which should easily overthrow Ultron . Based on early Friday estimates from both Variety and BoxOfficeMojo, the Rebel Wilson/Anna Kendrick musical comedy is drawing solid numbers, with a very good $20-$22m, which could see it finish the weekend between $48

#Robotech May Have Found It's Director

According to Deadline, Universal’s Furious 7 , director James Wan is in early discussions with Sony Pictures to direct Robotech , the feature adaptation of the 1980s sci-fi anime series that is being eyed as a worldwide franchise. Wan is one of the hottest directors in town after Furious 7‘s success — it has grossed $1.3 billion so far in worldwide box office — and has a lot of offers on the table. But I’m hearing he and Sony are going to try and make this work though the deal talks are in the beginning stages. Word is Wan is all for the opportunity to originate a franchise like he did with Warner Bros/New Line’s The Conjuring, which now has a second pic that he plans to direct coming out in 2016. Hollywood Gang’s Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton are producing a script from Michael Gordon, reuniting the trio who worked on 300. The original U.S. TV series Robotech was based on three different Japanese series and focused on the use of robotic technology found on a crashed alien sta

CinemaCon: 'Furious 8' to be Released in 2017

Learn why the announcement comes as no surprise. Story by Matt Cummings Furious 7 has been an unqualified hit, no matter how you slice it. The death of Actor Paul Walker in 2013 nearly ended the franchise as Universal struggled to re-shoot portions of the film with Director James Wan. When it finally released on April 3rd, the high-flying car caper drew huge crowds but not overly positive critical reviews. In fact, fans themselves could make a claim that it's the weakest since the original trilogy. Even if such suggestions spark fierce debate among moviegoers, the film has surpassed the $1.1 billion mark, and has made over $300 million domestically. That's a win no matter how you slice. Part of its success was the film's poignant ending, showing Walker's character Brian O'Conner driving off into the sunset as his partner Dom (Vin Diesel) looked on. And even with that teary-eyed ending, its amazing performance dictated that a sequel be considered.

James Wan Eyed for "Aquaman"

The Furious 7 director would join Jason Momoa for the DCCU. Story by Matt Cummings Director James Wan has scored big in recent years, moving effortless through The Conjuring and Insidious franchises with relative ease. His most recent production - Furious 7 - has already roared to an amazing $180m, vaulting him into the spotlight with his quick action edits and ability to navigate a nearly impossible shooting schedule. Now, he could be on his way to the deep ocean. According to The Hollywood Reporter , Wan is being pursued by Warner Bros. to direct Aquaman , featuring the classic titular character. No official offer has been made, but the studio appears to have started preliminary talks. Actor Jason Momoa is already signed to star as the lead and will supposedly make an appearance in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice . The Justice Leaguer will star in several of Warners' superhero films, including the BvS two-parter. Competing scripts are being d

April 2015 Movie(s) On Our Radar

While several April titles look appealing, only release gets our full attention...again. Story by Matt Cummings For a year that's supposed to be the highest-grossing in the history of cinema, February and March 2015 did nothing to help that expectation. In fact, both have turned out to be something close to disasters, with March delivering the lowest box office since 1997 ($461.9m). Even Cinderella's very nice $156m monthly haul wasn't enough to offset Chappie 's scant $30m, or Run All Night 's $24m). Home and Get Hard could turn in decent money by April's end, but none of that is guaranteed. So, it's with a bit of sheepishness that we present you yet another month with very few - ok, only ONE - film that we know could singlehandedly keep April alive. And while there's potentially appealing stories about corporate greed (Ex Machina), a comedy about growing old (While We're Young), and a drama about a man on the FBI's most wanted l

Movie Review: Furious 7

Filled with high-octane stunts and likable additions, Furious 7 roars to a tearful tribute. WARNING: This review contains SPOILERS. Review by Matt Cummings It goes without saying that Furious 7 has been on the minds of every moviegoer since Actor Paul Walker tragically died in 2013. Among the many questions raised was how Director James Wan would find closure for a character that wasn't supposed to die. With a frantic script re-write resulting in an extension of the release date now in its rear-view mirror, audiences this weekend get to judge whether Universal made the right decision to move forward instead of cancelling the project as some have suggested. And while it's not as effective as other entries, this one will delight audiences with its purely over-the-top action, new characters, and a touching tribute to Walker. With Owen Shaw (Luke Evans) defeated in London, Team Furious doesn't realize that Shaw's meaner brother Deckard (Jason Statham) h
