Next Monday, August 18th, be sure to catch Captivated: The Trials of Pamela Smart premiering on HBO at 9pm. The riveting documentary takes a new look at a story everyone thought they knew and examines how one woman’s trial became a nation’s entertainment as the first fully televised court case. An Official Selection of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, the film explores how the media’s coverage of the story may have influenced the trial and sentencing of Pamela Smart, a New Hampshire woman who at 22 years old was accused of plotting the 1990 murder of her husband. Directed by Jeremiah Zagar, the film features courtroom footage and interviews with prosecuting and defending attorneys, journalists, Smart’s friends and acquaintances as well as an intimate new interview with Pamela Smart herself. The HBO Documentary lovingly resurrects the memory of a long-forgotten painter. We all know the story of Actor Robert DeNiro and his incredible career. But for many in the art world during the 1940's, DeNiro's father preceded his son's success as a painter.
