Non-Stop Review. Delicious Fun Wrapped Up In 20-Minute Morsels Of Mayhem

Non-Stop Review By: MattInRC The action thriller Non-Stop is delicious fun wrapped up in 20-minute morsels of mayhem. WARNING: Major spoilers ahead. We love us some Liam Neeson . From Schindler's List and Batman Begins to The Grey , Neeson's been a rock-steady diet on our movie menu for more than two decades. But in the last few years, the actor who we first enjoyed in Excalibur has been a hurting soul. After the death of his wife in 2011, Neeson has thrown himself into his work, producing memorable fare that's also shed a greater light on what it means to lose someone close due to tragedy. His newest film Non-Stop wraps a genuinely good performance with enough high-altitude madness to make us reconsider flying First Class. When US Air Marshall Bill Marks ( Neeson ) learns of a diabolical effort to murder passengers aboard a non-stop flight to London, he must root out the suspect before the clock ticks 20 minutes. The suspect has promised Marks that someone will mee

Escape From New York Remake On It's Way

Joel Silver‘s Silver Pictures has joined forces with Studio Canal to build a new franchise with a retelling of Escape From New York . The 1981 John Carpenter original starred Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken, a tough convict dropped into a futuristic New York that has been turned into a post-apocalyptic maximum security prison. He’s charged with rescuing the president ( Donald Pleasence ), who is held hostage by the prison kingpin ( Isaac Hayes ) after his plane crashes within the city walls. Snake’s offered a pardon if he’s successful, but fitted with a lethal device that will kill him if he tries to run or misses the deadline. A remake had been attempted not that long ago at New Line with producer Neil Moritz and The Crazies helmer Breck Eisner, with Gerard Butler, Jeremy Renner and Tom Hardy all mentioned as potentials to play Plissken. That effort ended when New Line let the option lapse almost two years ago. Studio Canal, which partnered with Silver on the Liam Neeson

BULLET TO THE HEAD Review. It's A Fun Ride

BULLET TO THE HEAD Review By: MattInRC Closing out an amazingly productive January, BULLET TO THE HEAD is a typical but enjoyable 80's/90's action flick. As we close out the month of January, one cannot help but remark upon the many quality releases that have graced what's usually a terrible month for films. Whether it was Gangster Squad , Broken City , or Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters , January has provided us with a surprisingly diverse and enjoyable list of new releases. Among them is the Sylvester Stallone action flick Bullet to the Head, a brainless but enjoyable action flick that's his best in a long time. Jimmy Bobo ( Sylvester Stallone , Expendables series) is a former soldier turned hitman who's never known life outside of killing and jail time. When his partner ( Jon Seda ) is sliced up by the deadly hitman Keegan ( Jason Momoa , Stargate: Atlantis), Bobo joins forces with Washington DC cop Sung Kwon ( Sung Kang , 2 Fast 2 Furious) who's

Ben Affleck In Talks To Star & Direct "Line of Sight"

Just as Ben Affleck gears up to begin production on his thriller Argo , the filmmaker-actor is already targeting his follow-up. Ben Affleck Eyeing Role in Baz Luhrmann's ' Great Gatsby ' Affleck is in negotiations to star in, direct and produce Line of Sight , an action project at Warner Bros. that is being produced by Joel Silver and Andrew Rona. The idea, conceived by Silver Pictures' Alex Heineman (who also exec produces), centers on an elite commando squad transporting cargo while dealing with a global threat. One of the conceits of the movie is that it tells the tale from a point-of-view akin to a first-person shooter game. The script was recently worked on by Peter O’Brien, the man who wrote the game Halo: Reach for Xbox 360. The project was initially picked upby Warner Bros.-based Silver Pictures in March as a spec written by F. Scott Frazier. Affleck has been moving almost non-stop as a filmmaker since his directorial debut, 2007’s Gone Baby Gone . H

Ben 10 Heading To Big Screen

Producer Joel Silver's massive Hollywood career has been built on grown-up action, but it looks as if the projected audience for at least one of his future projects will skew younger, since he's planning to bring a "big-budget, tentpole, live-action" Ben 10 to cinema screens. Ben 10 , if you've missed it so far, is a hugely successful Cartoon Network series that's been running in various incarnations since 2005. It's about a boy, Ben Tennyson, who comes into posession of a watch-like device that allows him to transform into various superpowered aliens (ten of them... but not all at once). Naturally he uses his new-found abilities to nut up and fight evil, with the help of his granddad and his sister. There've been three separate series and a couple of spin-off live-action TV movies already: both directed by Alex Winter (yup, the one from Bill And Ted) and starring Graham Phillips as Ben the first time, and Ryan Kelley the second. The new versio

Stallone Has A "Bullet To The Head"

Joel Silver’s Dark Castle Entertainment has come on board Walter Hill ’s upcoming action thriller starring Sylvester Stallone , and the film is now set to be distributed domestically through Warner Bros. Silver’s Dark Castle is partnering with Stuart Ford’s IM Global and Courtney Solomon’s After Dark Films on the project, based on the graphic novel Bullet to the Head , written by Matz and illustrated by Colin Wilson. The plot involves a New Orleans hitman, to be played by Stallone, who joins up with a New York City cop to form an alliance to bring down the killers of their respective partners. Sung Kang , of Fast Five , has been cast in a supporting role in the production, which is set to begin filming in Louisiana later in June. Silver previously collaborated with Hill on the movies 48 Hours and Warriors and HBO's Tales from the Crypt. Silver, who also produced the Stallone movies Demolition Man and Assassins , said, “Sylvester Stallone is an iconic action star the wo

Ryan Gosling To Star In Logan's Run

Logan’s Run is back in the race. After losing helmer Carl Rinsch in the fall due to scheduling conflicts, Warner Bros. and producers Joel Silver and Akiva Goldsman are lining up Nicolas Winding Refn to sit in the director’s chair for the sci-fi project, which is now being developed as a vehicle for Ryan Gosling , who just closed a deal to star. Danish Refn made some noise with his gritty prison drama Bronson , which starred Tom Hardy , and is making his Hollywood debut with this year’s action thriller Drive , which stars Gosling. Run would be a step-up to the tentpole leagues for Refn, while also acting as the same for Gosling, who has been very picky with his studio entries. Alex Garland has written the script, which is said to hew closer to the 1967 novel by William F. Nolan than the 1976 feature starring Michael York, Jenny Agutter, and Farrah Fawcett. The hook is a future society where people are executed upon reaching a certain age and those that seek to avoid their fat

Wonder Woman Returning To TV

Wonder Woman Returning To TV This has to be the highest-profile effort to bring Wonder Woman to television: One of TV's best-known creators, The Practice's David E. Kelley , has come on board to write and produce a new series project about the female superhero. The project, from Warner Bros Television where Kelley is based, and Warner Bros' DC Entertainment, will be taken out to the networks shortly. Kelley, who has created several female centered shows like Ally McBeal , has wanted to tackle a contemporary take on the World War II-era Amazon. He recently met with the DC team who also have been looking for ways to launch a new Wonder Woman TV franchise. The comic book Wonder Woman character has evolved significantly since she first appeared in a 1941 issue of All Star Comics and recently underwent a controversial makeover. Details on Kelley's TV series are being kept under wraps, and it is not clear if the new Wonder Woman aka Diana Prince will be the old familiar

Schwarzenegger's Commando To Get Remade

Schwarzenegger's Commando To Get Remade  This film started the whole thing for me. My first real big crush on Alyssa Milano and this is part of the history of my website name. In the begining of the film Alyssa makes a sandwich for her father played by Arnold Schwarzenegger (The you don't want to know sandwich) and somehow (Rando)  turned into a part of my name for the website. Well one part... Deadline reports Fox is developing a remake of Commando, the 1985 shoot-first-ask-questions-later action movie which followed a retired elite special forces op whose daughter is kidnapped and threatened unless he gets on a plane and kills the rival of a nasty dictator. David Ayer, who wrote Training Day and directed Street Kings, is both writing and directing this. Ayer, a former Navy soldier himself, is putting a real-world spin on the original premise (oh come on, it was cheesy 80's action!) by making the protagonist less of a "meat head" and more skilled in covert

New Trailer For Splice

New Trailer For Splice If you haven't heard of this movie yet, you surely will. In the we get a good look at the cloned specimen. I am thinking that this movie is going to be a sleeper hit of the summer. How can you go wrong with a film executive produced by Guillermo Del Toro and starring Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley. After a bidding war with Apparition,The Weinstein Company, Newmarket Films, First Look Studios, and Samuel Goldwyn Films, Dark Castle Entertainment purchased the film in February 2010. The film will receive a wide release in the United States on June 4, 2010. Clive and Elsa are superstars of the genetic engineering world. They specialize in splicing together DNA from different animals to create fantastical new hybrids. The charismatic couple wants to use human DNA in a new hybrid – something that could yield astronomical medical benefits. The pharmaceutical company that funds their research, however, is more interested in exploiting their earlier triumphs

Project X Is In the Works And It Doesn't Star A Monkey

Project X Is In the Works And It Doesn't Star A Monkey Don't be confused with the 1987 movie with the same title that starred a Monkey and Matthew Broderick, this is not a reboot of that film. Project X has got tongues wagging in Hollywood. Warner Bros, Todd Phillips and Joel Silver are mobilizing a raunchy comedy with a $12 million budget, a hard R-rating, under that working title. British video/commercials director Nima Nourizadeh will be making his feature directing debut, and Phillips will be the producer and creative godfather. There are several unusual facets to this film. First, when was the last time Warner Bros spent as low as $12 million on a movie? Second, the real title and the concept are being kept secret--all I can get is that it's an outrageous high concept--and the filmmakers won't be distributing full scripts, only watermarked pages to prospective college-aged cast. But the most intriguing part is that the filmmakers are intent that every actor c

Spy Hunter Film To Become A Reality?

Spy Hunter Film To Become A Reality? I bet you guys forgot about this little project and looks like it is back in the news again. Back in 2003 Universal Pictures was thinking of making this film and having it star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, but it never happened, well looks like they are going to rev up the engines on this one again. Warners obtained the rights when it bought Midway for $33 million in July. The studio, which bought the title as part of its acquisition of Midway Games last year, has tapped Chad St. John to pen the script for a feature adaptation. St. John is becoming a Warners favorite. The scribe wrote the time-travel spec "The Days Before" for Warners, which signed him to a two-pic deal. A remake of "Outland" and the action project "Motor City" followed. St. John also is writing "Sgt. Rock," featuring DC Comics' World War II soldier, for Warners and producer Joel Silver. "Hunter" follo

Sherlock Holmes Movie Review By: Windy

Sherlock Holmes Movie Review By: Windy Windy has out done herself again. Coming in with a home run review! What would we do without her? Make sure to visit her site and let her know what a great job she is doing. "Sherlock Holmes", directed by Guy Ritchie, takes place in 1891 London, just as the well-known Tower Bridge was being constructed. The film is extremely fast paced in both movement and dialogue-too fast at times. It may have been the dialect of the time, but in 2009, the words become hard to discern. Kudos to Robert Downey Jr for picking up such a strong dialect, but it needed to be slowed for the audience. Downey Jr's character is well-developed, as we hear his thoughts throughout the movie, see into his home and learn about his techniques for solving mysteries. Dr. John Watson, played by Jude Law, is also well developed as Holmes' partner who has to balance life-threatening detective work, his friendship with Holmes and his relationship with his soon-to

Sherlock Holmes Has Monster Christmas Day

Sherlock Holmes Has Monster Christmas Day Warner Bros.' period action pic "Sherlock Holmes" raked in $24.9 million yesterday, notching the best Christmas day opening ever at the domestic box office. Directed by Guy Ritchie, "Sherlock" marks the Blighty helmer's first wide release stateside after making his mark with a string of high-octane actioners such as "Snatch" and "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels." The film, in play at 3,626 venues, easily becomes the best opening for Ritchie as his previous pics received platform bows. "Sherlock" also served up runner-up opening day records for producer Joel Silver and leading thesp Robert Downey, Jr., whose respective highs are "The Matrix Reloaded" ($42.5 million) and "Iron Man" ($38.7 million). "Sherlock" is Ritchie's second collaboration with Silver after last year's Gerard Butler shoot-em up "RockNRolla." In addition, "Sherlock
