Dwayne Johnson To Star In Doc Savage Film

If it seems like Dwayne Johnson is attached to a new film almost every other day, that's probably because he is. And he's a workaholic, who has probably lifted more weight today than many of us manage in a week. His latest announcement, though, confirms what had been rumored and talked about for a while: he's attached to star in Doc Savage for co-writer/director Shane Black . The Iron Man 3 director has made no secret of the fact that he thinks Johnson is right for the lead in the film, and now Johnson has hit Instagram with a picture (see below) of Black and his co-writers Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry sitting with Johnson and production partner Hiram Garcia to, in The Rock's words, "chop up creative and break story on this very cool project. Comic book fans around the world know that the cool thing about 'Doc' Savage is that he's the inspiration for Superman. First name Clark, called "Man of Bronze", retreats to his 'Fortres

Shane Black's Predator To Reinvent, Not Reboot

New film to play around in existing universe. By Brandon Wolfe Last year, it was announced that Iron Man 3 ’s Shane Black was working on a reboot of Predator (a film in which Black had a small acting role) with his old Monster Squad writing partner, Fred Dekker. However, producer John Davis has clarified that the film will actually be an “inventive sequel” that will incorporate the existing series’ lore. "Shane shot a movie and he's doing a pilot now, but I've read a lot of his (Predator) script and I think it's genius. I think it's genius and I think it's entertaining, and what it did is recreate a famous franchise in a different, interesting way; looking at it from a different light. He's just an amazing writer-director. He's got a way of looking at this that makes you excited again. I love this franchise. It was the first movie I ever did. I remember in being in the jungle with Arnold [Schwarzenegger] as a 28-year-old and going, 'This i

Shane Black To Direct Iron Man 3?

Shane Black is in contention to direct Iron Man 3 for Marvel Studios. The writer/director has powwowed with Marvel execs about his take on the third installment in the blockbuster franchise. As of now he is being considered for the directing job, but the assumption is that if he gets the gig, he would also write a draft. Insiders said that Black's involvement is far from a sure thing, and that other filmmakers were being looked at. Marvel is keeping the story direction of Iron Man 3 -- which returns Robert Downey Jr . in the title role -- secret. Disney, which owns Marvel, is scheduled to release the threequel on May 3, 2013. The directing spot recently opened up when Jon Favreau , who directed the first two movies, announced he was departing the franchise, so that he can direct Magic Kingdom for Disney. Iron Man 3 would reteam Black and Downey, who worked together on the well-regarded Kiss Kiss Bang Bang , which Black directed and co-wrote. Black made his name wri

Doc Savage Film To Be Tackled By Shane Black

Doc Savage Film To Be Tackled By Shane Black Harry Knowles from AICN bumped into Screenwriter Shane Black and got a little news about Doc Savage script was going. A Doc Savage project has long been in development hell; mooted as an Arnie vehicle a decade ago. A classic "adventurer", the character stems from the pulp magazines of the 30s and 40s. Described by principle writer Lester Dent as a cross between Sherlock Holmes, Tarzan and Abraham Lincoln, Clark Savage Jr was trained as a youth by a team of scientists who made him practically superhuman: the colour of his skin, eyes and hair lent him the alias The Man of Bronze. He appeared in getting on for 200 novels between 1933 and 1949 (not to mention a handful in the 1990s), plus comics, a radio series, and a camp low-budget George Pal movie in 1975. According to Black, his script will be firmly set in the 30s, from which he believes Savage is "inseparable", and will be an original story that "attempts to encaps
