BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Top Gun: Maverick Has Begun Production

Here’s some news to take your breath away — Top Gun 2 is finally happening, and it’s in production right now. The sequel to Tony Scott’s 1986 fighter pilot action-drama has been stuck on the highway to the danger zone for years now, but according to Tom Cruise’s social media accounts today is officially ‘Day One’ on the project. The sequel is thought to be titled Top Gun: Maverick, with Cruise returning in that titular role, while Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski is stepping behind the camera (in slow motion, against a hazy orange sunset). Cruise shared a picture on Twitter showing him back in his flight gear, clutching his Maverick helmet (oo-er), with the classic tagline ‘feel the need’. That, obviously, being the need for speed. The sequel is coming from Paramount and Skydance, with Jerry Bruckheimer producing, and a screenplay by Peter Craig and Justin Marks, who have separately scripted the likes of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, The Town, and Disney’s latest Jungle Book. Joseph Kosinski To Direct Top Gun 2?

Tom Cruise is getting ready to head back to the Danger Zone — and he’s bringing an old friend along for the ride. Sources tell Variety that Joseph Kosinski — who directed Cruise in “Oblivion” — is the front-runner to direct “ Top Gun 2 ” for Paramount and Skydance Pictures. While no official offer has been made, several insiders believe one is imminent. Paramount had no comment. Cruise met with potential helmers prior to and while filming “ Mission Impossible: 6 ” in London to ensure the “Top Gun” sequel was ready to go after production wrapped. Even with Cruise and Kosinski having previously worked together on the 2013 sci-fi action film, sources say it was Kosinski’s vision the sequel’s direction that officially won him the job. “Oblivion” was a huge hit for Cruise and Kosinski bringing in $286 million worldwide and only seemed like a matter of time before the two worked again. Cruise recently confirmed to a British talk show that the sequel was moving forward and would

Val Kilmer Will Return For Top Gun 2

Fire up the Tomcats! Or probably the drones… With Tom Cruise and Jerry Bruckheimer still stoking the fires of the sequel, Val Kilmer is now saying that Iceman will return for Top Gun 2 . In development since before the tragic death of Tony Scott in 2012, the follow-up to 1986’s cult classic fighter pilot drama is inching closer to production take off, with Cruise aiming to return as Maverick, this time shepherding a fresh class of airborne wannabe hot shots into conflicts. And, if it all comes together, his old rival-turned-pal Iceman is also going to be part of the story. “I just got offered #topgun2 – not often you get to say ‘yes’ without reading the script,” Kilmer writes on Facebook. “Jerry Bruckheimer and Tom Cruise!!! ‘Yes.’ We will all miss Tony Scott one of the kindest gentlemen I've ever met in the film biz, but let's fire up some fighter jets again!!!” Whether fighter jets will be a big part of the movie remains to be seen, as today’s warfare tends to be mo

Top Gun 3D Flying Into Theaters In 2012

Tony Scott’s 1986 classic Top Gun starring Tom Cruise is being converted to 3D for a theatrical release. A four-minute 'world premiere' preview of the converted film--featuring the 'Danger Zone' aerial flight sequence--was screened Monday at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam. The 2D to 3D conversion is being accomplished at Legend3D, whose CEO Rob Hummel introduced the clip as well as its unique business model during an IBC panel. "We think there is great potential for catalog titles in 3D, but studios have had trouble justifying the expense," Hummel said, explaining that Legend 3D is funding and doing the conversion for Paramount. "As I understand it, they are planning to release it in 3D in early 2012, though I known they want to get Tony Scott’s approval before they go forward," he said, explaining that Legend 3D effectively has a revenue sharing deal with Paramount. "I think Top Gun lends itself to 3D

Top Gun 2 Could See The Skies Soon

Have You Lost That Love And Feeling? Reinflate your beach volleyballs, don your aviators, and apply some Coppertone to your shaven chests, lads, for the sequel to Top Gun is nigh! We have  learned that Paramount Pictures has made offers to both producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott to follow up their action classic, and has a missile lock on Oscar-winning screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) to update the script, one in which Tom Cruise’s Maverick would play a smaller role. Maverick would be confused and slightly depressed by the state of Top Gun these days, anyway. Last June, at a junket for Disney’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Bruckheimer let slip that he had been “recently approached again to start talking about [a sequel]” but noted that “the aviation community has completely changed since we made the movie a long time ago.” Since 1986, the TOPGUN syllabus has been changed so the focus is far less on the spectacular and dramatic air-to-air do
