Sacha Baron Cohen In Talks To Join Aaron Sorkin's 'The Trial of the Chicago 7'

Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment’s long-awaited political drama “ The Trial of the Chicago 7 ” looks to be closer than ever to getting off the ground, with a new director and an A-list cast coming together. Sources tell Variety that Aaron Sorkin is on board to direct with Sacha Baron Cohen in early talks to join the cast. Based on the the documentary by Brett Morgan called “ Chicago 10 ”, the film is based on the infamous 1969 trial of seven defendants charged by the federal government with conspiracy and more, arising from the countercultural protests in Chicago at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. The trial transfixed the nation and sparked a conversation about mayhem intended to undermine the U.S. government. Sorkin penned the original script. At one point, Spielberg himself considered directing, but a writers strike forced him to delay the film. When he couldn’t pin down a time to direct the movie, he moved on, and the pic went into development purgatory. S

Movie Review: 'Steve Jobs'

The tedious Steve Jobs is nothing more than Oscar bait. Review by Matt Cummings It's always impressive to see current events play themselves out in a dark theater. Perspective is the problem: how do you tell the story of someone/something without giving them time to learn their true effect? Unfortunately, Steve Jobs has many other problems to deal with, churning out asshole at 128k and leaving us with little but the old frown face that plagued older Macintosh boxes. Based on Author Walter Isaacson's 2011 book, Jobs details three important product launches between 1984-1998, where we learn why Apple co-founder Steve Jobs (Michael Fassbender) was labeled as a difficult boss. 'Impossible' might be a better use, as his grading style keeps his assistant (Kate Winslet) harried while turning co-founder Steve Wozniak (Seth Rogan) into the center of his scorn and general torment. Faced with continual product failures and his tense relationship with Apple, Job

Cate Blanchett To Star As Lucille Ball In Upcoming Biopic

Cate Blanchett is attached to star in an authorized biopic of Hollywood legend Lucille Ball that Aaron Sorkin is set to write for Escape Artists, TheWrap has learned. The film will chronicles Ball’s 20-year marriage to Desi Arnaz, with whom she starred on the classic TV sitcom I Love Lucy . Ball had two children with Arnaz before they divorced in 1960. She married Gary Morton the following year. Lucy Arnaz Jr. and Desi Arnaz Jr. will produce with Escape Artists, whose executive Jenna Block will oversee development of the project on behalf of the Sony-based company. A representative for Blanchett declined to comment, while a representative for Sorkin did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Blanchett won her first of two Academy Awards for playing another Hollywood icon, Katharine Hepburn, in Martin Scorsese‘s The Aviator. She’s gearing up for another Oscar run thanks to her acclaimed performance in Todd Haynes‘ lesbian romance Carol. Blanchett also stars opposit

Seth Rogen To Play Steve Wozniak Opposite Christian Bale

Seth Rogen is being eyed to play Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak opposite Christian Bale in Sony's Steve Jobs movie, while Jessica Chastain is also being sought for a role in the film, multiple individuals familiar with the project have told TheWrap . Danny Boyle is directing the film — which is not a traditional biopic — from a script by Aaron Sorkin , who had access to Jobs’ authorized biography by Walter Isaacson. The film is expected to follow Jobs during three stressful, high-profile product launches including the first Macintosh in 1984 and Apple's 2001 debut of the iPod. While neither Chastain nor Rogen have deals in place, the latter actor is in talks to play Wozniak, who created the Apple I computer and co-created the Apple II computer in the mid-1970s. Scott Rudin, Mark Gordon and Guymon Casady are producing the film, which Sony has high hopes for, as it could be a major awards contender. Rogen has proved himself more than capable of handling dramatic r

Christian Bale Cast In Steve Jobs Biopic

UPDATE : Bloomberg has talked to a highly-placed source (one Aaron Sorkin ), who confirms Bale is aboard. “We needed the best actor on the board in a certain age range and that’s Chris Bale ,” Sorkin says. “He didn’t have to audition. Well, there was a meeting.” You can see him use an extended sports metaphor in the Bloomberg video here. But we sort of wish he'd announced it like this. He was talked about back when David Fincher was considering directing the film, and it would appear that Sony is still interested in Christian Bale. The actor is now in talks for the Steve Jobs biopic that the studio is looking to make. Danny Boyle remains in the director’s chair for the film, which Aaron Sorkin has been busy writing. Sorkin’s script, which is based on Walter Isaacson’s bestselling authorised biography of the man, focuses on three big moments in Jobs’ corporate life, including the launch of the Mac, the NeXT (which was introduced after he was removed from the company) and the

Could Danny Boyle & Leonardo DiCaprio Team Up To Make Steve Jobs Movie

Moving fast to replace David Fincher on its highly anticipated Steve Jobs movie , Sony Pictures is in talks with Danny Boyle to direct the biopic of the late Apple Computer co-founder. Boyle is said to have approached Leonardo DiCaprio to star. As The Hollywood Reporter revealed earlier this month, Fincher fell out of the project due to his aggressive demands for compensation and control. Fincher had wanted Christian Bale for the title role, though the actor was not signed. The film is to be produced by Scott Rudin and written by Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network), based on the best-selling biography of Jobs by Walter Isaacson. The Jobs film could mark a reteaming of DiCaprio and Boyle, the star and director, respectively, of 2000's The Beach. Neither has previously worked with Sorkin. The departure of Fincher dashed hopes of reuniting the team behind Social Network, which grossed $225 million worldwide in 2010. Please Leave A Comment- Source- THR

David Fincher In Talks To Direct Steve Jobs Film

Based on Walter Isaacson's best-selling biography, the film would reteam Fincher with " Social Network " writer Aaron Sorkin and producer Scott Rudin. David Fincher already has tackled one Silicon Valley billionaire in Mark Zuckerberg. Now, the Social Network director is poised to take on the late Steve Jobs for Sony. Fincher is in early talks to helm the untitled film based on Walter Isaacson’s best-selling biography of the Apple co-founder, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter . If a deal comes together, the film would reunite the director with Oscar-winning Social Network writer Aaron Sorkin, who recently finished the adaptation, and Social Network producer Scott Rudin. Mark Gordon and Guymon Casady also are producing. Like Zuckerberg, Jobs was a complicated visionary who became a polarizing figure. Under Jobs' watch, Apple revolutionized several businesses, including personal computers, music, computer-generated animation and mobile phones. In the proce

Michael Lewis's Liar's Poker Headed To Warner Bros.

In the wake of the $20 million opening weekend for the film based on his Moneyball , author Michael Lewis is taking a much more active role in the what could be the next film based on one of his books. Lewis has been tapped by Warner Bros. to write a script based on Liar's Poker , his classic 1989 account of working as a bond trader at Salomon Brothers in the go-go '80s. “I’m going to spend the next two months doing that,” Lewis tells The Hollywood Reporter. Moneyball Review - In addition, John Requa and Glenn Ficarra (Crazy, Stupid, Love) have come aboard to direct the film. Bill Gerber is producing and Courtenay Valenti is overseeing the film for Warners. Lewis, the author of several nonfiction bestsellers, is a hot commodity in Hollywood following the success of The Blind Side and Moneyball. Liar's Poker, Lewis' first book, has been in development at Warners since the early 1990s. The property picked up momentum recently as Lewis’ star has risen and the eco

Moneyball Movie Review By: Rama

Moneyball Movie Review By: Rama Let's see if Rama thought Moneyball hit it out of the park or not. Enjoy his review and make sure to follow him on Facebook and Twitter . I don’t know if I’d call MONEYBALL a baseball movie because it’s more about the business or the dealings behind it and in that sense, the concept could apply to other sports. Which is great because you don’t have to grow up liking baseball to enjoy MONEYBALL, which by the way is one of the best films of 2011 in my book. Columbia Pictures, the force behind last year’s smart dialogue film, The Social Network, has done it again, obviously because Sorkin reworked the script. But the film’s comparison to The Social Network may also be a factor, on top of public’s opinion on Pitt ’s recent comment about Jen Aniston, that could hurt MONEYBALL’s chances at the box office. That said, this film is funny, it’s engaging, it’s got similar excitement and intensity that you’d usually expect to happen on wall street flo

He's a great guy.  We had the pleasure of   hanging out with him a few nights at Comic-Con this year. Yes, Papajohn is a great guy, I actually was just with him in Santa Monica today. Stand up guy, and love being around him. I know he said that ya'll had a great time at Comic-Con, and that its just straight fun madness there. Would

Olivia Munn Lands A Role In Aaron Sorkin's New HBO Drama

Olivia Munn has found life after Perfect Couples' cancellation: the actress has joined the cast of Aaron Sorkin's cable news drama at HBO. The project, tentatively titled More as the Story Develops , revolves around Will ( Jeff Daniels ), the co-anchor of a cable news show who must contend with a new team after his fellow host lands a new gig and takes most of his staff with him. Munn will play Sloan, one of the "new breed" of sexy financial analysts with a show on Will's network. Daniels’ role was originally written as a fortysomething and marks his first regular series TV gig. I had the chance to  interview  Munn a few years ago and I gotta say she is one of the sexiest and friendliest person I have met. And hell she is a half breed like me and use to live in Japan the same time I did. Alan Poul (Six Feet Under) recently joined the drama project as an executive producer alongside Sorkin and Scott Rudin (The Social Network), and will direct episode
