Movie Review: Focus

The caper drama Focus has a lot going for it, but gets its pockets picked in a few key areas. Review by Matt Cummings It doesn't happen too often that an actor can get completely knocked down by one role, but for Will Smith that was After Earth . It was not only one of the worst films of 2013, but an embarrassing trainwreck that saw Smith lose nearly all of his credibility and charm. It's taken awhile to get that back, an Focus helps a lot, even though it suffers in a couple of key areas. When a one-night stand between Nicky Spurgeon (Smith) and Jess (Margo Robbie) leads to trouble with Jess' husband, it looks like Nicky will have to pay big time to make the problem go away. What Jess doesn't know is that Nicky is a smooth operator and con himself, swindling money left and right including her rings, wallet, and sunglasses from her before she even realizes it. The two decide to join forces during a football championship game in New Orleans, pick-pocketin

NBC Picks Up J.J. Abrams' Undercovers

NBC Picks Up J.J. Abrams' Undercovers Up NBC has picked up J.J. Abrams' spy-fi drama Undercovers for the 2010-11 TV season. "We have tremendous confidence in this promising series and feel this is a great way to kick off our upcoming up-front development announcements," said Jeff Gaspin, chairman, NBC Universal Television Entertainment, in a statement. "J.J. has delivered another signature series along with our partners at Warner Brothers, and we couldn't be happier." Abrams (Lost, Star Trek) serves as co-creator, co-writer and executive producer and also directs the pilot of the show, described as "a sexy, fun, action-packed spy drama that proves once and for all that marriage is still the world's most dangerous partnership." Here's the official description: Outwardly, Steven Bloom (Boris Kodjoe, "Resident Evil: Afterlife") and his wife, Samantha (Gugu Mbatha-Raw, "Bonekickers"), are a typical married coupl

J.J. Abrams' "Undercovers." Gets It's Male Lead

J.J. Abrams' "Undercovers." Gets It's Male Lead Boris Kodjoe has landed the male lead in J.J. Abrams' pilot for NBC "Undercovers." "Undercovers," described as a mix between "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" and "The Bourne Identity," revolves around spouses Samantha and Steven (Kodjoe) Bloom, who work together as spies. Earlier this week, veteran Gerald McRaney became the first actor tapped for the project as the couple's CIA boss. The role of Samantha is yet to be cast. Abrams is considering directing the Warner Bros. TV-produced pilot, which he co-wrote with Josh Reims. Kodjoe is a bold choice for a leading man on a network drama as broadcasters have stuck predominantly with Caucasian leads. Kodjoe, is probably best known for his starring role on the series "Soul Food." He will next be seen in "Resident Evil: Afterlife." Please Leave A Comment- Source- THR
