Fury Review: Brutal, Barbaric Tank Epic Largely Succeeds

Fury is a brutal, even barbaric, take on the last months of WWII. To those of you who have served or continue to do so, I thank you. The task of defending our country is not an easy one, especially when forced to make tough choices that result in the loss of lives when war is unleashed. The David Ayer WWII tank epic Fury sure doesn't pull punches about those choices, delivering the most brutal affair since S aving Private Ryan . In the final months of WWII, the effort to defeat the Germans has been met not with surrender but with desperation. Caught in the madness of war, tank commander Don "Wardaddy" Collier (Brad Pitt) leads a motley crew of psychopaths: the tank driver Gordo (Michael Pena), the vicious backwater "Coon-Ass" (Jon Bernthal), and "Bible" (Shia LaBeouf), an evangelical Christian with the gift of biblical gab. Suffering the loss of one of their own, Wardaddy is forced to take on fresh recruit Norman Ellison (Logan Lerman)...

October 2014 Movies On Our Radar

After two terrible months, October shapes up nicely in our On the Radar Preview. We hate being right. Last month, we predicted that the Domestic Box Office for September 2014 would be one of the worst in recent memory, and it sadly kept its promise, slogging in well under 2013 with $273.8m and nearly beating the venerable 2001 haul of $268.5m. The quarter was also the worst since 1996, taking in just $2.5b - yes, that period includes Summer 'blockbusters.' With these infamies behind us, we now move into the pre-Oscar/Holiday film season, a period that usually delivers memorable features while a few even make their case for February considerations. This month, we find an appealing mix of WWII tank drama, spine-tingling horror, as well as a few genuine Oscar contenders. Here is our On the Radar preview for October 2014: Annabelle (October 1st) Plot: A couple begin to experience terrifying supernatural occurrences involving a vintage doll shortly after their hom...

Watch the Trailer for Fury

The trailer for Brad Pitt's WWII tank movie has arrived. Writer/director David Ayer has had it rough as of late. The creator of the highly-acclaimed End of Watch struck out big time with Arnold Schwarzenegger's Sabotage , but now the Oscar-winner is back with a look at the final year of WWII. He goes back in time for the goes back in time with the upcoming historical thriller Fury . The trailer, which can be viewed below, offers up a 300-esque showdown involving an American tank against hundreds of German soldiers. In the trailer, we can see Ayer's trademark gritty style, but it's his writing that fans are most hopeful to witness. The story tells of Norman Ellison (Logan Lerman), who served under Sergeant Wardaddy’s (Brad Pitt) tank crew, as the team fights through the final bloddy days of the war. There seems to be a strong Band of Brothers theme occurring here as well. Ayer is no stranger to WWII films - he wrote U-571 , which strayed away from fact...
