Movie Review: 'Ted 2'

The fiercely unapologetic Ted 2 is also fiercely hilarious. Review by Matt Cummings If 2011's Bridesmaids and Horrible Bosses began the renaissance of great comedies, then 2012's Ted kicked it in the balls, proving that the genre was back. A ridiculous and satisfying in every way, the story of a teddy bear come to life featured plenty of 80's references and expanded Actor Mark Walhberg's already impressive resume. With Ted 2 , all the pieces are still there, with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. But is it this year's most complete comedy? Not so much. Set a few years after the first film, Ted (voiced by Seth MacFarlane) is getting married to trashy grocery store co-worker Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth), while his thunder buddy John (Mark Wahlberg) is working through a divorce. Fast forward a year, and Ted's marriage looks like it's over, until the couple decide to have a baby. That opens up a series of legal troubles, as the state eventual

Men, Women, and Children Review: A Preachy, Sobering Teen Tale

Men, Women, and Children will make you want to check your teen's computer... a lot. In Director/Writer Jason Reitman's Men, Women, and Children we see a world where teens and the Internet have become inexorably attached, with one dependent on the other for everything except sustenance. Content to barely communicate outside of their phones and computers, teens live in a world where the sharing of porn and cyber-bullying one another for the smallest offense is a daily exercise right next to bulimia and sex. At least that's what Reitman wants you to believe. In this case, he would be mostly right: the movie does a solid job of frightening every parent into spot-checking their child's phones and diets from now until they're 30. Following the lives of four families in Austin, Texas we learn of the sexually available cheerleader (Olivia Crocicchia) and her failed actress mother (Judy Greer), who posts racy photos of her daughter hoping to win a competition

New Clip From #DEARWHITEPEOPLE

New clip from DEAR WHITE PEOPLE . DEAR WHITE PEOPLE will open in theaters October 17, 2014. Winner of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival’s Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Talent, Dear White People is a sly, provocative satire of race relations in the age of Obama. Writer/director Justin Simien follows a group of African American students as they navigate campus life and racial politics at a predominantly white college in a sharp and funny feature film debut that earned him a spot on Variety’s annual “10 Directors to Watch.” When Dear White People screened at MOMA’s prestigious New Directors/New Films, the New York Times’ A.O. Scott wrote, “Seeming to draw equal measures of inspiration from Whit Stillman and Spike Lee, but with his own tart, elegant sensibility very much in control, Mr. Simien evokes familiar campus stereotypes only to smash them and rearrange the pieces.” The unexpected election of activist Samantha White ( Tessa Thompson ) as head of a traditionally blac

Sin City - A Dame to Kill For Review: Uninspired Overly-Sexualized Follow-up

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For knows what it wants, but utterly misses in its execution. The folly of returning to an old franchise nearly 10 years after it was made has proven to be difficult at best and disastrous at worst. Whether it's expectation or the passage of time, film series that see such lapses hardly ever work out. This year's 300: Rise of an Empire was engaging in its leads, but it failed to attract audiences who saw the original as their Holy Bible of Violence. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For only strengthens my theory that all series have a shelf life. Wrapping three stories of life in crime-ridden Sin City, we follow the further adventures of the bruiser Marv (Mickey Rourke), dancer Nancy (Jessica Alba), and anti-hero Dwight (Josh Brolin), as well as new ones by the gambler Johnny (Joseph Gordon-Levitt). Some want money, others respect, and a couple just want to wash away their demons. But the city always throws up obstacles like Senator Roark (Power
