Movie Review: #WishUpon

It's like a bad parody of "Final Destination" RAMA is back. The best way to describe the movie Wish Upon is that it’s like a bad parody of the “Final Destination franchise. There may be a decent thriller somewhere in “Wish Upon," a thriller that could take you back to some of ‘90s classics like “I Know What You Did Last Summer” perhaps, but unfortunately, it’s hidden underneath mediocre and laughable moments. Directed by John R. Leonetti, starring Joey King as 17-year old Claire who gets bullied at school and hates that her dad struggles financially, in addition to their struggling to move on from the fact that a few years ago, Claire’s mother committed suicide. All that changes when an old music box’s powers grant Claire’s wishes, she finally gets everything she’s ever wanted. But the box requires a deadly price for its users. You know one of those movies that are just so bad, they crack you up, all of a sudden you find yourself laughing instead of getting

Movie Review: #GoingInStyle

The unconventional but flawed comedy Going in Style mostly keeps our attention. Mostly. Review by Matt Cummings There's a trap in this business that many reviewers seem unable to avoid: they expect too much from movies, either in terms of story, characters, or other unrealistic forces. Not every movie needs to be an Oscar winner, nor does it have to be the best movie you've ever seen. Sometimes movies can merely entertain, like a light dessert that's instantly forgettable but still satisfying at the time. Such is the case with Going in Style , an unconventional comedy that spends way too much time building up its story, only to see it end exactly the way we predicted. Three lifelong friends - Willie (Morgan Freeman), Joe (Michael Caine), and Albert (Alan Arkin) - learn that their steel mill pensions are being ended after the company's sale, putting all three out on the street within 30 days. For Joe it's the most recent slap in the face, after hi

Wish I Was Here Review: Touching Kickstarter Fails to Break New Ground

Zach Braff's Wish I Was Here is nothing but typical thirty-something Kickstarter dramedy. In the world of Hollywood, it seems that certain genres fall all too easily into something equal to a time loop, their stories rehashed for a new group of unsuspecting moviegoers until they realize only later that their newest love is really a distributive of something much better. Such is the case with Zach Braff's dramedy Wish I Was Here , a film with potential but condemned to all the tropes of its much better predecessors. Struggling actor Aidan Bloom (Zach Braff) is tired: unable to land a role after starring as the 'Before' guy on a dandruff commercial, he's unsure of himself and the direction his career is headed. His wife Sarah (Kate Hudson) is in a similar rut, imputing data at her boring job with the water service, while Aidan's father Gabe (Mandy Patinkin) has been paying the tuition to keep his granchildren (Joey King and Pierce Gagnon) enrolled at
