Scott Derrickson Will Return To Direct Doctor Strange 2

THR is reporting Scott Derrickson , who directed and co-wrote the mystical Marvel hero's initial 2016 outing, has quietly finalized a deal to helm the new installment. A search for a writer to pen the script is about to get underway. Benedict Cumberbatch will return as Stephen Strange, the good doctor turned master of the mystic arts, as will Benedict Wong , who played his right-hand man, Wong. Rachel McAdams , who played Stephen Strange’s love interest, is likely to return as well. Strange was last seen de-materializing in the $2 billion-grossing Avenger: Infinity War , where one of his lines of dialogue served as the inspiration for the title of the fourth Avengers movie, Avengers: Endgame. Marvel has been tight-lipped about its plans for life after Endgame, which it is calling Phase Four. After all, how much can there be when half your heroes are supposed to be dead Derrickson carved out a résumé of horror movies such as 2005's The Exorcism of Emily Rose and 201

Movie Review: #DrStrange

Doctor Strange is a trippy, fantastical voyage that also has something to say. Review by Matt Cummings If the idea of yet another superhero comicbook-inspired throwdown has you wishing for more, your prayers are about to be answered: Doctor Strange is a wild mind-trip that actually has something to say about the future of this film universe without bashing you over the head with a hammer or a giant green fist. Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) is a brilliant but arrogant neurosurgeon, able to save the next damaged human but also ready to boast about it. When he's involved in a savage car crash that leaves his hands permanently wrecked (and his job prospects a total zero), Strange spends his fortune looking for a traditional cure. Journeying to the east, he meets Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), who introduces him to The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), a powerful sorceress who employs truly magical means to correct people's ailments. Strange is unconvinc

First Look At Benedict Cumberbatch As Doctor Strange

Thanks to EW for the first peek at Benedict Cumberbatch in Marvel’s new superhero film, Doctor Strange (out Nov. 4). How early? Well, principal photography on the film — which costars Tilda Swinton, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor , and Mads Mikkelsen — only began in November, and director Scott Derrickson won’t wrap the movie until March. EW’s First Look cover shoot with Cumberbatch was one of the very first times the British actor tried on the costume that his character, Doctor Stephen Strange, wears after transforming from a self-centered surgeon to a world-protecting sorcerer. The Sherlock star even used the shoot as something of a research-and-development session for the gesticulations which are part of his character’s spell-casting. “I’m still in the infancy of learning all that,” Cumberbatch tells EW. “It was like, okay, I’ve got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically. I’m thinking, there’s going to be a

Benedict Cumberbatch To Play #DoctorStrange

Benedict Cumberbatch has entered the world of the mystic arts. The actor will star in Marvel’s “ Doctor Strange ,” scheduled to hit theaters November 4, 2016. The film, directed by Scott Derrickson with Jon Spaihts writing the screenplay, will follow the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions. “Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” said Producer Kevin Feige. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.” Cumberbatch rose to international prominence with his critically acclaimed turn as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most famous creation in “Sherlock,” currently preparing its fourth season. The series’ most recent season earned Cumberbatch the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie in 2014, after winning the BAFTA/LA Britannia Award for British Arti

#DoctorStrange Makes A House Call On November 4, 2016

Marvel's Doctor Strange Conjures Up a November 2016 Release Date We didn't get any confirmation that Benedict Cumberbatch would be playing the title role . The Master of the Mystic Arts set to make his big screen debut in just 2 years! Come November 2016, the good Doctor is in! Could #BenedictCumberbatch Be #DoctorStrange ? At a special presentation at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced Marvel's " Doctor Strange " would hit theaters November 4, 2016, marking the hero's big screen debut. Scott Derrickson will direct the film introducing the Master of the Mystic Arts to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "It takes a while to work on these movies before they're ready to come to you in theaters," said Feige. "Doctor Stephen Strange, brilliant neurosurgeon, bit of an arrogant fellow who gets in a car accident and ruins what he thinks are the tools of his trade: his hands. "In the

Could #BenedictCumberbatch Be #DoctorStrange ?

Here’s a turn up for the (magic) books… Months after he was originally rumoured for the role, and after various potential contenders have come and gone, it appears Benedict Cumberbatch is indeed Marvel’s choice to be Doctor Strange . According to Deadline , the once and future Sherlock is in negotiations for the role, but with no formal confirmation from Marvel yet, this one will have to linger on the margins of the rumoursphere for a little longer. From the sounds of it, the deal is all but done and Cumberbatch is probably already being measured for capes and such by director Scott Derrickson . The Sinister overseer, working from a script by Jon Spaihts, will bring to life the character originally conjured by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. He started as a selfish New York surgeon (named Stephen Strange) who loses his professional skills in a car crash. After falling on hard times, he visits a healer in the Himalayas known as The Ancient One, and learns to tap into psychic and magic

Jack Huston As Doctor Strange?

We’re in that fuzzy, transitional period where a film moves from the vapourware status to reality in the evolution of Marvel’s Doctor Strange . With Scott Derrickson confirmed to direct, the casting rumors for the title character have been flying thick and fast, landing on various known quantities such as Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hardy, Jared Leto and, during Comic-Con, Joaquin Phoenix , who was reportedly in early talks. The latest name to add to the list? Jack Huston . While he may not be as well known as some of those above, Huston’s hardly a newcomer. He’s been paying his dues for several years on screens both big and small, appearing in Boardwalk Empire, Factory Girl, Kill Your Darlings and last year’s American Hustle . He’ll next be seen in the Nicholas Sparks adaptation The Longest Ride and recently won the role of Mr. Wickham in Pride And Prejudice And Zombies . Though he might be considered on the young side for the Sorcerer Supreme, he carries the benefit of ada

Scott Derrickson To Direct Dr. Strange

As Marvel keeps hunting for its “ Ant-Man ” director, the company continues to move forward with its next phase of films, tapping Scott Derrickson to helm “ Dr. Strange .” Talks are still early, but sources say Derrickson, who most recently directed “ Sinister ,” is Marvel’s choice and a deal should be struck shortly. Marvel had no comment. The pic will be produced by Kevin Feige, who, over the years, has repeatedly said how badly he wants to get a “Dr. Strange” movie made. Executive producers on the project are Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Alan Fine, Stan Lee and Stephen Broussard. The comicbook revolved around a former neurosurgeon who serves as the “Sorcerer Supreme” — the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats. Strange made his first appearance in the 1963 comicbook series “Strange Tales” and would go on to have his own comicbook series and would appear in several other comicbooks that included “The Fantastic Four,” “Spider-Man” and “Nick Fu
