"Acme" Looney Tunes Film To Star Steve Carell

X-Men: First Class scribes Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz are going a little looney, and directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa may soon join them. The power writing duo has been hired to write the untitled Acme movie project being developed by Warner Bros. At the same time, Ficarra and Requa, who directed Crazy Stupid Love for the studio, are in early negotiations to direct the project, which has its roots in Warners' classic Looney Tunes cartoons. Steve Carell , who toplined Crazy Stupid Love, is attached to star in the project, which is being produced by Dan Lin and Roy Lee. The latter two were behind the mega-successful and franchise-launching The Lego Movie, and the studio and producers are envisioning the Acme project as an event movie that will also launch a franchise. Plot details are being kept under an anvil, but the Acme Corporation is a fictional manufacturer of crazy and sometimes dangerous products (that also tend to malfunction at the most inopportune times) th

War Is Brewing Over Upcoming "Godzilla" Film

A battle is brewing between Godzilla producer-financier Legendary Pictures and the two producers who brought the project to the company. Gozilla , the famed Japanese monster property, is getting a new movie treatment from Legendary and Warner Bros. (the studio has a 25 percent stake) with Gareth Edwards directing. The project is ramping up for a spring production start, with offers out to several top actors. ( Joseph Gordon-Levitt was on the list but has since passed). According to Legendary sources, the company and producers Dan Lin and Roy Lee are sparring over creative and financial differences. Warners insiders say Legendary wanted the producers to reduce their fees. When the pair declined, the company began exercising a pay-or-play clause in their contracts to boot them from the project, a nearly unheard-of move. The dispute first was reported by Hitfix. Lin, a producer behind this week's Gangster Squad, and Lee, brought the much-sought-after Godzilla project to

The Bodyguard Reboot Is On The Way

And IIIII Will Aways Loooove Youuuuuu, Yes Warner Bros is rebooting its 1992 hit The Bodyguard , the film that paired Kevin Costner with Whitney Houston and became for its time one of the biggest global hits in studio history with a $411 million worldwide gross. And my guess is that Beyoncé will be getting the lead role and the remake of the song also. The film will be scripted by Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer, whose action comedy script Family Getaway made the 2010 Black List and is a priority project at Warner Bros. Dan Lin will produce through his Lin Pictures banner, and Mark Bauch is co-producer. Scripted by Lawrence Kasdan and directed by Mick Jackson, the original was a fairly straight ahead tale of a Secret Service agent (Costner in a Steve McQueen homage, down to his hairstyle) drafted to protect a singing diva whose life has been threatened by a stalker, then falling for her in a way he fears is a distraction from his job. The new version is similar, including the

Chris Tucker Joining "The Rabbit"

Will Chris Tucker Hop Like A Rabbit? Considering how little he tends to work (at least when Brett Ratner's not on the phone), you’d almost think there’d be some sort of alarm when Chris Tucker ’s linked to a new project. Maybe a recording of his weird DJ from The Fifth Element? Anyway, no matter what it sounds like, Warner Bros. is pulling the chain to fire it up as the studio has just bought The Rabbit , a spec script that will likely feature him. There aren’t actually any details about the screenplay to hand just yet, though we do know that newcomer Micah Barnett wrote it and, according to Deadline , it’ll be an action comedy in the Midnight Run mould. So that probably means Tucker being a loud mouth and getting tracked down for something, then forming an unlikely partnership with a grouchy, mumbling partner. But that’s just a guess, of course. The only other solid information is that regular Warners producer Dan Lin – he of the Sherlock Holmes movies, and the man currentl

Steve McQueen's "Yucatan" To Be Produced By Robert Downey Jr

Steve McQueen's "Yucatan" To Be Produced By Robert Downey Jr Robert Downey Jr. and wife Susan Downey have named their Warner Bros-based production company Team Downey , and hired David Gambino to be president of production. For their first producing project, the Downeys have come aboard Yucatan , a heist film originally crafted by Steve McQueen as a star vehicle for himself. Team Downey will produce with Dan Lin , with whom they worked on Sherlock Holmes. While Warner Bros tried for several years to find a movie in the nearly 1,700 pages of notes and storyboards compiled by McQueen and discovered in a trunk long after his death, Team Downey and Lin will go back to that source material and start from scratch. The studio made a new rights deal with McQueen's son, Chad, who'll be an executive producer with Lance Sloane. Downey is intrigued with the material and will get first crack at starring in it. Spy Hunter Film To Become A Reality?

Spy Hunter Film To Become A Reality? I bet you guys forgot about this little project and looks like it is back in the news again. Back in 2003 Universal Pictures was thinking of making this film and having it star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, but it never happened, well looks like they are going to rev up the engines on this one again. Warners obtained the rights when it bought Midway for $33 million in July. The studio, which bought the title as part of its acquisition of Midway Games last year, has tapped Chad St. John to pen the script for a feature adaptation. St. John is becoming a Warners favorite. The scribe wrote the time-travel spec "The Days Before" for Warners, which signed him to a two-pic deal. A remake of "Outland" and the action project "Motor City" followed. St. John also is writing "Sgt. Rock," featuring DC Comics' World War II soldier, for Warners and producer Joel Silver. "Hunter" follo

Lego Movie to Be Made By Warner Brothers

Lego Movie to Be Made By Warner Brothers I guess they are going to make movies out of every childhood memory and why not this one too. Movies based on toys couldn't be hotter in Hollywood, with nearly every studio adapting playthings for the bigscreen. Now count Warner Bros. as one of those studios: WB is toying with plans to develop a movie around Lego and its popular building blocks. Scribes Dan and Kevin Hageman are penning the script for the family comedy that will mix live action and animation. Warners is keeping the plot tightly under wraps, but it's described as an action adventure set in a Lego world. Dan Lin, who is shepherding Warner Bros.' "Sherlock Holmes" and exec produced the studio's upcoming family film "Shorts," will produce the movie through his Lin Pictures, which is also behind a "Tom and Jerry" film that will put the feuding animated characters in a live-action setting. The shingle's Stephen Gilchrist serves as co-p
