The actor had been filming a scene for Fox 2000's upcoming movie " Of Men and Mavericks " when he wiped out. Gerard Butler was hospitalized after a surfing scare on Sunday in North California. The actor had been filming a scene for his role as a surfer in Of Men and Mavericks when he was dragged underwater and over rocks by a set of huge waves. Butler, 42, was rescued by a coastal patrolman and taken to Stanford Medical Center in a bit of a shock but otherwise OK, according to Frank Quirarte's account on ESPN.com . News About Maverick Surf Contest And Film- "He had that 100-yard stare that surfers get after a two-wave hold-down or near-death experience. After almost 20 years at Maverick's, I've seen a lot of it but it was good to see he was standing on his own two legs," said Quirarte, referencing the famous (and dangerous) surf destination. Butler was out on the water with pro surfers Peter Mel, Zach Wormhoudt and Greg Long, who are cons

Matt Reeves To Direct Another Vampire Film "The Passage"

Matt Reeves is heading back to the world of vampires. The thoughtful and intellectual director behind Let Me In , the remake of Swedish bloodsucker thriller Let the Right One In, has come aboard to develop and direct The Passage , Fox 2000’s adaptation of the novel by Justin Cronin . Ridley Scott is producing. Fox 2000 picked up the rights for the adaptation as well as two possible sequels in a reported seven-figure deal in 2007. The novel was published in 2009. The novel is set a hundred years in the future, where a government experiment to lengthen the human life span goes awry, unleashing a virus that physically and psychologically transforms people into vampires. John Logan wrote the script when Scott was considering the project as a directing vehicle. Reeves, who wrote Let Me In and co-created Felicity with JJ Abrams, will oversee the rewrite when a new writer is brought in. This is the second major project Reeves is involved with. Last week he signed on to write and

Percy Jackson Sea of Monsters Film Is In The Works

Fans waiting for a sequel to " Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief " may not have to wait that much longer. LA Times is reporting that Fox 2000, the 20th Century Fox label behind the adventure franchise, is putting a follow-up project to the 2010 young-adult film in active development and could shoot it as early as this summer, according to a person who has been briefed on the project's status but was not authorized to speak publicly about it. The movie would be subtitled " The Sea of Monsters " and derive from the second book in Rick Riordan's five-book series. The studio has hired Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski -- who wrote "Ed Wood" and "Agent Cody Banks" -- to write a script for the new film, which they are currently doing. But the person cautioned that the project is still very much at the development phase; the movie, for instance, does not yet have a director. Chris Columbus , who helmed the first ins

Taylor Lautner To Star In "Incarceron"

Taylor Lautner Going To Jail Twilight Saga's Taylor Lautner has become attached to star in Incarceron , the Fox 2000 adaptation of the Catherine Fisher young adult novel. The film is being written by Adam Cooper & Bill Collage, who are among the writers behind the Brett Ratner-directed Universal comedy Tower Heist, and who are writing Moby Dick for Timur Bekmambetov and Moses for Fox and Peter Chernin. She and Finn simultaneously find a crystal key that allows them to communicate and hatch an escape plan for Finn. The film will be produced by John Palermo and Lautner is likely to become involved as a producer as well. Aside from the final two Twilight Saga films being

Michael Jackson's Thriller Movie

Michael Jackson's Thriller To Become A Film Michael Jackson , who reportedly earned $275 million posthumously over the past year for his estate, isn't slowing down anytime soon.  GK Films is in active negotiations to acquire a package for a film that is being fashioned around his groundbreaking hit song Thriller . The film, which has been quietly shopped over the past several weeks by Real Effects Entertainment , has Kenny Ortega attached to direct, and The Hangover scribe Jeremy Garelick to write the screenplay. While GK is in the driver's seat, I'm told that Fox 2000, Mandate/Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment are all in the mix on what will shape up as a pricey rights deal, but which will turn out to be a film budgeted at under $50 million. Plot is being kept under wraps but I understand it has to do with the song's folklore, involving Vincent Price and the town he grew up in. All of this deal making is subject to a deal being completed with Jackson's e

Christoph Waltz Playing A Circus Freak

Christoph Waltz Playing A Circus Freak Hollywood is always looking for great villains. Now I’m told that Christoph Waltz, a frontrunner in the Best Supporting Actor race for his portrayal of the charmingly sadistic Col Hans Landa, will make a deal to star with Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson in "Water for Elephants,"the Richard LaGravanese-scripted adaptation of the Sara Gruen novel for Fox 2000. Francis Lawrence is directing. The role at first appeared to belong to Sean Penn who's been on a self-imposed big screen sabbatical, but the deal went south. Instead, Waltz will play the heavy in the Depression Era romantic triangle involving a veterinary medicine student (Pattinson) who joins a 2nd-rate travelling circus and falls for the star performer (Witherspoon). Waltz will play her husband, a dangerous paranoid schizophrenic animal trainer who is as mean to his wife as he is to the circus creatures. Waltz was a journeyman German TV actor when Quentin Tarantino cast
