Winona Ryder- An "Alienation" Expert?

Winona Ryder- An "Alienation" Expert? We're halfway checked out for the holiday weekend, so let's end with bit of comedy. A litigious videogame player is calling Winona Ryder to testify as an expert in "alienation." Erik Estavillo has filed a $1 million lawsuit in California Superior Court against Activision Blizzard, publisher of "World of Warcraft," saying it "maintain(s) a harmful virtual environment to many of its customers by forcing them to follow the game's sneaky and deceitful practices." The plaintiff says he suffers from several mental health problems brought on by WoW's "alienating" features, such as forcing beginners to walk or run to get from one point to another instead of speedier options available to those who master the game or buy an expansion pack. Estavillo says that the slow pace is "deceitful" because more time = more subscription revenue for Activision. Here's where Winona Ryder comes

Fox Unveiled Its Midseason Lineup

Fox Unveiled Its Midseason Lineup Fox unveiled its midseason lineup Tuesday, giving homes to new entries "Our Little Genius," " Human Target ," " Past Life " and " Sons of Tucson ." Given its limited shelf space and the need to accommodate the return of "American Idol," Fox is forced to do a bit of scheduling musical chairs in midseason -- although less so this year, as "Idol" will follow the scheduling pattern of "So You Think You Can Dance" in the fall. That also means that unlike past years, much of Fox's midseason schedule looks like the lineup the net announced at the May upfronts (save Tuesday and Friday nights). Meanwhile, with several new shows waiting in the wings, a handful of incumbents will take a hiatus -- most notably, "Glee," which will go dark between Dec. 9 and April 13. (On the bright side, net execs note that "Glee" originally wasn't even on the midseason sked that Fox u

Ryan Reynolds Talks Green Lantern And Deadpool

Ryan Reynolds Talks Green Lantern And Deadpool Then again, the 33-year-old can't go into hiding anytime soon. This year, he signed on to two big-budget franchise flicks, "Deadpool" and "Green Lantern." Lucky for him, fanboys couldn't be more excited to see his takes on both iconic comic book characters. I’ve known about Green Lantern my whole life, but I’ve never really followed it before. I fell in love with the character when I met with [director] Martin Campbell. When I sat down with him, I really got what it is that this guy is all about. When you have a guy like Martin Campbell, part of his charm is that he has ba–s of titanium, and the other part is that he’s slightly crazy, and you have to be to take on something with the scope of Green Lantern . He’s less of the director and more of a general. He just really knows strategies, he knows the intricacies, and his attention to detail! It’s infectious. I sat down with him, and I could not even believe wh

Neve Cambell The Next SCREAM Queen?

Neve Cambell The Next SCREAM Queen? So you don’t think you are in any danger of becoming the next Jamie Lee Curtis of the shock-horror world? Being the next Jamie would be fine! (laughs) In fact, we start shooting Scream 4 in mid-April. I’m so happy that those of us still “alive” from 1, 2 and 3 like David (Arquette) and Courtney (Cox) have already signed up to take part. Did you all stay in touch after the trilogy had wrapped? Oh, yes. Completely. I haven’t spoken to them in a while. I’m sure it took a while to convince them to take part [in the picture], especially because they’re now a very happy family ,and of course, it was a long journey for them. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun, and a lot like going back to summer camp. What else can you tell us about Scream 4? I’m pretty sure at this stage that Wes [Craven] is back on board to direct and Kevin [Willamson] is definitely writing it...so it is going to be great. So you haven’t been sent a script yet, then? No. Not yet. They

J.J. Abrams And Samurai Jack To Make A Film Together

J.J. Abrams And Samurai Jack To Make A Film Together We’ve got a little bit of an update this week on the Samurai Jack feature film that was first announced back in 2007. As you may know, Genndy Tartakovsky is on board to write and direct a big screen continuation of his popular animated series for Frederator Films. As far as we know it’s the only project on his plate at the moment since The Power of the Dark Crystal was postponed indefinitely, but apparently the deal for Samurai Jack took quite a while to close. Here’s the good news: things are now moving ahead, and they’ve even got a pretty big name helping them out as a co-producer. According to a post on the Frederator Films blog from back in September, J.J. Abrams revealed himself to be a huge fan of Samurai Jack and is now co-producing the movie through his company, Bad Robot Productions. Samurai Jack is also being distributed through Paramount Pictures, which helps guarantee that it will actually end up in theatres rather than g

ABC Puts "Flash Forward." Hiatus

ABC Puts "Flash Forward." Hiatus ABC has pushed the Pause button on "Flash Forward." The network has stopped production on the freshman drama series for this week. The six-day hiatus had been built into the show's schedule, a rep for the network said. "They want to maintain the high quality of the show, and this gives the writers the opportunity to do so," the rep said. The hiatus comes on the heels of "Flash Forward" hitting a series low last Thursday. Additionally, co-showrunner/executive producer Marc Guggenheim recently left the heavily serialized sci-fi series, with co-creator/exec producer David Goyer stepping in as sole showrunner. "Flash Forward" is the second freshman series to go on a non-holiday hiatus in the past week. Comedy "Cougar Town" was shut down so star Courteney Cox can deal with personal issues.
