Lone Survivor Review. Brothers In Battle

Lone Survivor Review By Nicolas Souza When you ask the average person to associate one word to the military, you get answers like courage, duty, honor, and bravery. When I reflect on the time I spent serving my country the one word that stands out most is brotherhood. The men and women I served with became an extended family to me. I still stay in touch with some, and remain very close to a few. Brotherhood is the underlying theme that has been behind the intense action of military films in recent years. Lone Survivor is no different. As a disclaimer I must say, this movie is extremely intense. I honestly cannot recall the last time I felt so transported to where the characters on the screen were. Be warned before going to experience this movie, it is not for the faint of heart. Beyond the story of military brotherhood, Lone Survivor is the telling of the failed Operation Ring Wings, where a squad of Navy SEALs is sent to scout a remote village and confirm the location of a Tal

Lone Survivor Review. Leaves Us With A Patriotic Stir In Our Hearts.

Lone Survivor Review  By: MattInRC Director Peter Berg brings the horrors and grittiness of the War in Afghanistan into powerful focus with his film Lone Survivor . For many of us, The War in Afghanistan - in direct response to the events of 9/11 - seemed so distant and unfathomable that its reasons for existing in the first place seemed without logic. Yet, it was a war with a deeply personal tone for those who waged it, as I suppose most wars are. Peter Berg's Lone Survivor doesn't exist merely as patriotic testosterone-fueled rage, instead serving as a forceful and gritty reminder that wars are neither glorious nor ever 'successful.' Based on the doomed 2005 mission expressed in Marcus Luttrell's 2009 non-fiction book of the same name, Survivor tells the story of 4 real-life Navy SEALs that are sent to eliminate Tablian leader Ahmad Shah. The Texas-born Luttrell ( Mark Wahlberg ) loves his team - including his commander Lt. Michael Murphy (

Why Battleship Was A Flop. Director Explains

Though Disney's John Carter took the brunt of the heat for being this year's first flop, another big-budget extravaganza actually did worse: the board-game-inspired alien invasion flick Battleship . To date, Battleship has grossed $59.8 million in North America—nearly $7 million less than John Carter brought in by its fourth week. The film's director, Peter Berg , has finally opened up about the epic flop. He said via The Huffington Post that he hopes to learn from the experience and (hopefully) move on to a more successful project in the future. "I have a movie in theaters right now which has obviously underperformed in many ways. When [a movie] doesn't work, it's an ... interesting opportunity to look at what went wrong and how it went wrong." As for what actually went wrong? According to Berg the concept, and the budget propping it up, were just too "big." "It was a movie that I tried as hard as I could to get inside of. But t

BATTLESHIP Review By: Matt C

BATTLESHIP Review By: Matt C Matt delivers another great movie review and hits it on the mark. BATTLESHIP is a clean miss that borrows too much and inspires too little. Hollywood must really be desperate these days: it's bad enough that audiences have endured reboots ad nausiem, but when we see movies based on popular board games, it's time for an intervention. Take the most recent example of an industry about to go squarely off the tracks  BATTLESHIP -. It looks like Transformers , feels like Top Gun with a hint of Star Trek, and its premise is a mish-mash of several noteworthy alien invasion flicks. While I will admit the ocean backdrop looks and sounds terrific, it's the story which takes on water early. Filled with more cliches than an interview with an NBA player and reeking of second-rate talent, Battleship plods on too long at the beginning and only somewhat redeems itself at the end by parading real-life veterans in front of the cameras to man the old USS
