Notable not only for featuring the final film performance by James Gandolfini , The Drop also features the first pairing of Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace and finds Dennis Lehane adapting his own short story. The Drop sees Hardy as Bob Saginowski, a lonely Boston barman and ex-criminal trying to go straight. Where Bob works is no ordinary water hole, however – it’s known in the neighbourhood as a place where shady money exchanges hands and danger lurks just beyond the doors. Fox Searchlight's adaptation of Dennis Lehane's Animal Rescue is gathering speed, with Noomi Rapace strongly tipped to be joining Tom Hardy on the production. The movie, an adaption of Lehane's own short story from crime anthology Boston Noir, will see the pair heading to Lehane's bleak but brilliant world for fun, good times and brutal, bloody moider. If he signs up, Hardy will play a solitary barkeep who rescues a puppy but soon finds himself in a jam, caught up with the pup's loco former owner and a crime syndicate run out of his bar. No word on what Rapace's part would be, but we're assuming that she's not the pup's loco former owner. Animal Rescue is Lehane's first screenwriting credit. Are your excited about this news? The studio's big summer bet was Ridley Scott's Prometheus , June's sort-of Alien prequel. The $130 million-budgeted film grossed a solid but not spectacular $303 million globally, putting it right on the franchise bubble. Fox confirms to THR that Scott and the studio actively are pushing ahead with a follow-up (stars Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are signed) and are talking to new writers because Prometheus co-scribe Damon Lindelof might not be available. "Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can't rush it," says Fox president of production Emma Watts, who also has overseen the successful reboots of the X-Men and Planet of the Apes franchises. Prometheus Movie Review By: Matt C When you put a list together of the most influential directors of all time, Ridley Scott has to be near or at the top. Known for two of the greatest science fiction films of all time ( Alien and Blade Runner ), Scott created worlds far from each other, but both rooted in very similar and familiar principles. From the clean white walls of his starships, to the gritty, greasy, well-worn environment behind them, his universe is filled with the very real world ills of corporate greed and the despicable people tasked with running them. In many ways, he has envisioned a future that's more practical and possible than of Star Trek and Star Wars , but not one that's comfortable to watch. Other directors have followed suit, each with varying levels of success; in fact, one cannot list a science fiction film from the past 30 years that doesn't pay homage in some way to Scott's 'worn universe.'
