TV Review: 24: Live Another Day – “11:00 AM-12:00 PM”/“12:00 PM-1:00 PM” By: Brandon Wolfe It has been four years since the clock finally ran out on Jack Bauer, and at the time it felt like not a moment too soon. Actually, it felt like a moment arriving years too late. ‘24’ was one of the defining shows of the ‘00s, it rewrote many of the rules of television and it had stretches where it occasionally brushed up against something like brilliance, but it ran out of gas long before it left our screens. Collapsing into a slog of poor writing, repetitive use of the same handful of tropes, frequent deployment of troubling politics and just an overall sense that its premise could not withstand being trotted out over myriad seasons, the latter years of ‘24’ became something of a chore to get through. In the fast-moving 60-second promo, it's established that Jack has been off the grid for the past four years. "He didn't do that by being careless," CIA agent Kate Morgan ( Yvonne Strahovski ) says. “ Chuck ” alum Yvonne Strahovski will be playing a spy again for Fox’s upcoming event series, “ 24: Live Another Day .” The Australian native will play Kate Morgan , who’s described as a brilliant but impulsive CIA field operative in London. “ 24: Live Another Day ,” the limited series followup to Fox’s hit Kiefer Sutherland starrer, will lens across the Pond, the network announced. “ Live Another Day ” marks the first production of the franchise to shoot abroad since the 2008 TV movie “ 24: Redemption ,” which was filmed outside Cape Town, South Africa. When fans of the Emmy-winning skein last saw Sutherland’s iconic counter terrorism agent Jack Bauer, he was a fugitive from justice. The continuation of the series -- which spanned 192 episodes and a TV movie from 2001-10 -- will be produced by its former showrunner, Howard Gordon (Homeland). With studios getting ever tougher on production budgets, the film version of 24 appears all but scrubbed. Two weeks ago, 20th Century Fox proposed a budget of $30 million for the feature, which would have Kiefer Sutherland return to the role of Jack Bauer for the first time since the long-running Fox television series ended in May 2010. Turning TV shows into bigscreen properties can be tricky and Fox wanted to protect its interests. Imagine Entertainment, which produced the TV series for 20th Television and is behind the movie, wanted to spend more in the range of $50 million to $60 million. Fox had proposed paying Sutherland and Fuqua $2 million each in exchange for a generous backend. Sutherland's camp wanted in the $3 million range. It's always possible there could be a compromise, with both sides stressing that the numbers weren't set in stone. The clock has started on 24 , the feature version of the Imagine Entertainment/Fox series. The project brings back Kiefer Sutherland ’s tireless government operative Jack Bauer. Mark Bomback — a favorite writer at 20th Century Fox writing The Wolverine and Shadow Divers – is doing some last minute tweaking of Billy Ray’s script, and will turn it in by year’s end. Imagine and the studio have about five directors in mind — no, Tony Scott is not attached anymore — and it will all begin happening very quickly in the early part of next year. The goal is to get the film into production to match Sutherland’s availability, which begins in April. That should give producer Brian Grazer something to do after he completes producing the Academy Awards, and it is certainly good news for fans of the show who were beginning to fear the project wouldn’t happen. A sneak peek at Kiefer Sutherland's upcoming midseason drama, Touch , has surfaced. The Fox series, from Heroes creator Tim Kring , revolves around a single father ( Sutherland ), whose mute 11-year-old son communicates through numbers. The project was picked up late last month for 13 episodes and reunites the former 24 star with Fox. The network will launch the drama in the spring. From Heroes creator Tim Kring , the drama pilot revolves around a father ( Sutherland ) and his autistic and mute son ( David Mazouz ) who can predict events before they happen. As first reported by TV Line, Glover will play Arthur DeWitt , a professor who works with gifted children. The drama marks Kring’s first series since Heroes and Sutherland’s first since 24 . Production on Touch will begin soon now that Sutherland has completed his run on Broadway in the revival of Jason Miller’s That Championship Season.
