Variety is reporting Johnny Depp may be returning to the dark corners of the smuggling world, this time in South America. The “ Black Mass ” actor is in early talks to star in Paramount’s crime thriller “ Triple Frontier. ” The studio had no comment. Depp, who recently earned a SAG nomination for playing mobster Whitey Bulger in “Black Mass,” hasn’t yet committed to the project but is said to be engaged again in the organized crime thriller. The actor initially showed interest in the script when Kathryn Bigelow (“Zero Dark Thirty”) was involved. J.C. Chandor (“A Most Violent Year”) is now directing the film. The long-gestating project, an ensemble thriller, also has an offer out to Tom Hanks. THR is reporting that Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux , writers on animated comedy Bob's Burgers , have signed on to work on Sony's female-centric 21 Jump Street project. The sisters are the second writing team to board the project. Sony also has brought on Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs, who are working on Comedy Central’s buzzy Broad City. The studio liked a pitch from the Molyneux sisters, so it is moving forward with dual-track development, in which both writing teams are working on separate scripts for the comedy. The 21 Jump Street franchise, starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, has done strong business for Sony. The first two films have grossed more than $530 million worldwide. Sony also is planning a third installment in the Tatum-Hill franchise called 23 Jump Street, with Rodney Rothman writing the script. Sony is brewing two female-centric spinoffs of its previous films. A disappointing array of score music profligates an otherwise funny film. Review by Matt Cummings If audiences didn't quite respond to January's comedy caper Mortdecai (ok, they frankly hated it), it might have had something to do with Actor Johnny Depp's "Here we go again" approach to the titular character that kept audiences away. While I loved the film's zaniness, I was wondering whether the soundtrack by Composers Mark Ronson and Geoff Zanelli had anything to do with that experience. After listening to it, I can say an emphatic 'no.' The problem here is that the score is more set-up music and less big riffs that help to identify the actors or push the scene further. Take something like Hong Kong : you must go nearly 3 minutes into the 4:25 track before finding anything remotely like a big theme or a connecting melody. Once you get there, it's all 60's schlock and totally fun, but the wait is almost not worth the time. Jo

In this fifth installment to the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise Captain Jack finds himself running from the heinous Captain Salazar, played by Javier Bardem. So far, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales , the fifth installment of the sea-going mega-franchise, has largely been weathering storms of bad buzz. Word of script changes, weather delays and, most recently, Johnny Depp injuring his hand have not helped matters.
