Pirates of the Caribbean 5 Begins Filming

Will Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley return? Story by Matt Cummings For fans of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, it's been a bumpy road as of late. Two excellent films - Curse of the Black Pearl and Dead Man's Chest - were followed up by two thoroughly disappointing ones, in At World's End and On Stranger Tides . Some have pointed out that the failure of the last two were due to poor character development of leads Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, and that their absence in On Stranger Tides sealed the fate of one of the most successful live-action series in history. Still others blame the decision to feature Actor Johnny Depp's quirky Jack Sparrow so prominently in On Stranger Tides as the prominent reason for that film's failure. Debate was fierce over whether the Knightley-Bloom-Depp triangle was the reason for the series' early success, and whether or not that relationship should be renewed. As Dead Men Tell No Tales

Lionsgate Admits Mortdecai was a 'Disappointment'

Does the movie's failure point to a deeper problem for Johnny Depp? Story by Matt Cummings First there was Dark Shadows , then The Lone Ranger , then Transcendence . Now, Lionsgate is having to admit another of their Johnny Depp enterprises has fallen on hard times. Speaking to Variety, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer admitted has asserted that Johnny Depp’s caper comedy Mortdecai will be a “very manageable” loss for the studio despite its terrible box office performance. “It’s clearly a disappointment,” Feltheimer told analysts Friday during a company conference call to discuss earnings for its third quarter which ended on December 31. Mortdecai, which cost $60 million to make, has only generated $7 million since it launched on January 23. Internationally, it's added only $11 million. Although Feltheimer attempted to explain the loss with purely financial facts, the real question on everyone's mind was, "Is Johnny Depp no longer a bankable actor?"

Mortdecai Review: Hilarious Alternative to the January Bores

The slick caper comedy Mortdecai is the perfect solution to the onslaught of January bores. Review by Matt Cummings In Mortdecai , Johnny Depp plays the titular 'hero' Charlie, a sheltered and privileged art dealer/collector who's forced to join an MI-5 investigation to find a priceless painting and the Nazi account numbers on its back. Charlie would rather sip a fine Sherry than lift a finger, but that's not what is infuriating his wife Johanna (Gweneth Paltrow) it's the new curly mustache he's been cultivating. Soon, both of them are off on an art-heist adventure, courtesy of their friend from MI-5 Martland (Ewan McGregor) who holds unrequited love for Johanna. With the Russians and an international terrorist at his heels, Charlie and his man-servant Jock (Paul Bettany) must root out the painting's location using Chalrie's unique style and rather questionable talents. Critics are killing this one because they think Depp and company hav

Download @LanaDelRey New Song From The Film "BIG EYES" For Free

In honor of BIG EYES opening wide on Christmas Day, Yahoo! Music announced the title song by Lana Del Rey is being made available for free download starting today. People can download the free song "Big Eyes" by Lana Del Rey on Google Play here . From the whimsical mind of director Tim Burton, BIG EYES tells the outrageous true story of one of the most epic art frauds in history. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, painter Walter Keane (Christoph Waltz) had reached success beyond belief, revolutionizing the commercialization of popular art with his enigmatic paintings of waifs with big eyes. The bizarre and shocking truth would eventually be discovered though: Walter's works were actually not created by him at all, but by his wife Margaret (Amy Adams). The Keanes, it seemed, had been living a colossal lie that had fooled the entire world. A tale too incredible to be fiction, BIG EYES centers on Margaret's awakening as an artist, the phenomenal success of her p

Into the Woods Review. Pretty Faithful Adaptation Of Sondheim's Beloved Play

Pretty faithful adaptation of Sondheim's beloved play With a child-molesting wolf, a baby-stealing witch and an adulterous wife, this fairy tale is definitely not your normal Disney fare. Into the Woods has long been a fan favorite on Broadway, but finding its way to the big screen hasn't been quick or easy by any means. While there are some changes to the original masterpiece, Into the Woods is a pretty faithful adaptation of Sondheim's beloved play that translates well to the big screen. I'll admit, outside of Disney movies, I'm not a musical-seeking kind of girl. In fact, I mostly avoid them at all costs. All that singing really gets on my nerves. On the stage, it’s a different thing, but mostly, the big-screen version can't capture the magic of a live performance, even with its fancy special effects. But knowing that this would be a mash-up of Grimm tales, which I love, and had a stellar cast, Into the Woods looked intriguing as a movie. Combining th
