Ben Affleck To Write & Direct #Batman Stand Alone Film

Deadline is reporting Ben Affleck is teaming up with Geoff John s to co-write a stand-alone Batman movie that Affleck will direct and star in after he completes his longstanding plan to helm his scripted adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel Live By Night. Johns has about as much comic cred as anybody around. He’s DC Comics’ chief creative officer and has written some of its best remembered comic book series including Green Lantern, Aquaman, Batman, Justice League, The Flash and Superman. He also has written TV series superhero transfers Smallville, Arrow and The Flash, as well as the Supergirl project with Greg Berlanti for CBS. Affleck and Johns are well in synch and have more than found their rhythm. In fact, they are likely to turn in a script before the end of the summer, prior to Affleck going off to direct Live By Night in November. Affleck postponed that pic to star in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice . The Batman movie would shoot after he finishes Live By Night, an

#BatmanVSuperman New Images Of Cast

As the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con is now less than a week away, the studios are gearing up to show off what they have to offer in the worlds of science fiction, fantasy, romance, adventure and, of course, superheroics. With Marvel’s Cinematic Universe skipping this year (the TV shows will represent), Warner Bros. and DC are naturally going big with their efforts. Some new images from Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice have emerged via Entertainment Weekly . See all the images after the Jump... As you’ll know by now, the film finds Kal-El ( Henry Cavill ) going toe-to-toe (or cape-to-cowl) with Bruce Wayne ( Ben Affleck ) as a world-weary Batman decides that Superman is just too much of a threat to ignore. And while the idea of Bats taking on Supes would seem to be along the lines of a bicycle battling a tank, Wayne is coming loaded for alien bear, with a reinforced suit that enhances his strength and some handy Kryptonite for making the fight a little more equal. Why Marvel Might Not Need SDCC Anymore

How will today's confirmation affect the largest geek fest in the world? Story by Matt Cummings Even though the insanity that is San Diego Comic-Con makes enjoying the July event a real hassle, it's still clear that studios love the venue for its ability to release big stories to thousands of adoring fans. Together with social media, it's become the most effective (and cheapest) way to get your new television show or movie casting out there. But in recent years - particularly in 2014 - some studios began to re-think their strategies of waiting until the annual madness to build anticipation. Take Marvel Studios for example, the consistent darling of past conventions and the group particularly responsible for the way the current convention is covered and orchestrated. With their near lack of news last year for either 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy , 2016's Doctor Strange , or even this year's Ant-Man , it was clear that something was either amiss o

Chris Pine in Talks to Join DCCU

Learn what role he is slated to play. Story by Matt Cummings It's pretty clear that Actor Chris Pine makes everything he's in that much better. He's been a great Captain Kirk in the Star Trek reboots, a very good Jack Ryan in the recent Shadow Recruit , and even made Horrible Bosses 2 a livable experience. So it was bound to happen that the star would join either the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the DC one; the question was which one would be smart enough to get him. It now looks like we know what universe he will join and what role he might play. According to Variety , Pine is in negotiations to play a major role in Warner Bros.' Wonder Woman, that being none other than Colonel Steve Trevor. In the comics, Trevor is the human liaison and love interest to Wonder Woman who crashes his WWII plane on Paradise Island, the isolated home of the Amazons. He was rescued by Diana and brought back to America, where the two worked for the US government. In the

Doomsday Will Appear In Batman v. Superman

Supervillain will break up the grudge match. By Brandon Wolfe Perhaps ultimately acting as the thing that gets Batman and Superman to stop pounding on each other and forge an alliance, it has been reported that the archvillain Doomsday will be appearing in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice . El Mayimbe revealed on the Shanlian On Batman podcast that the famous adversary will function in the film much as Darth Vader did in relation to Grand Moff Tarkin in the original Star Wars , as the “muscle” to Lex Luthor’s brains (which seems like a flawed analogy, as I never really thought of Vader as purely a henchman of Tarkin’s). In the comics, Doomsday was created as the perfect weapon. Abandoned to live in the inhospitable environs of prehistoric Krypton, the creature eventually amassed enough power to escape his confines, eventually arriving on Earth, where he fought, and killed, Superman. While Superman’s death doesn’t seem likely in the upcoming film, Doomsday’s presence will almo

Joker May Be In Batman v. Superman and Batman May Be In Suicide Squad

DC might be cross-pollinating their characters. By Brandon Wolfe Latino Review has posted a couple of juicy rumors concerning the burgeoning DC Cinematic Universe. We received our first look the other day at the new Insane Clown Posse Prince of Crime incarnation of the Joker as he will appear in David Ayer's Suicide Squad , which had been expected to be the character’s debut film. Now, it’s rumored, we might meet the character a bit sooner, in Batman v. Superman . Rumblings have it that Jared Leto is filming a secret flashback sequence for next March’s superhero mash-up where we will see a depiction of the Joker torturing and killing Jason Todd’s Robin, as occurred in the 1988 comic “A Death in the Family.” Latino Review also reports that Todd’s Robin costume will be displayed in a glass casket in Wayne Manor during the film, and will possibly act as the trigger for the flashback. On top of that, the website also claims to have been told that Bruce Wayne/Batman will

Warner Bros. & IMAX Ink Extension Through 2020

The deal now allows Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice and others to appear in large-scale formats. Story by Matt Cummings Warner Bros. and IMAX announced on Monday that they had agreed upon an extension that will now allow Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice to be shown in the large-scale format. The deal extends the relationship through to 2020 and allows for 30 movies to be released over that time, including the reboot of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. , Suicide Squad , Wonder Woman , Godzilla 2 , and The LEGO Movie sequels. Some films like Batman vs. Superman were shot using IMAX cameras, making their inclusion in the deal all the more important. According to the press release, most of these and other films will be digitally re-mastered using IMAX’s technology. “We’ve had an incredible partnership with Warner Bros. for more than 10 years, which has helped Imax filmgoers enjoy Warner movies around the world,” said Imax CEO Richard L. Gelfond. This deal came on the heels

'Batman v Superman' Preview Hits IMAX On April 20th - Register for Tickets

See how you can watch scenes from the upcoming film. Story by Matt Cummings With comic book news happening almost every week, Marvel Studios is no longer the keeper of the key. DC and Warner Bros. now offers a series of animated films, including the recently-released Batman vs. Robin and the upcoming Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman , and Aquaman . With the live-action Man of Steel released to mostly-favorable reviews and television's The Flash and Arrow, DC has firmly established themselves. Of course, that's not all, with their cinematic universe officially kicking off with the 2016 release of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice . The rumor mill has been churning with reports suggesting that a trailer could be dropped within the next few months. However, it seems Warner Bros. is following their route with The Dark Knight Rises and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy by showing an extended trailer of BvS . Variety is reporting that audiences will be able t

Michelle MacLaren Has Exited Wonder Woman

The invisible jet needs a new pilot. By Brandon Wolfe Michelle MacLaren, the prolific TV veteran, has exited the director’s chair of Warner Bros’ upcoming Wonder Woman film. MacLaren, who has cut her teeth on such shows as Breaking Bad , The Leftovers and Better Call Saul , has cited “creative differences” as the reason for the split in a statement. The Wonder Woman film, starring Gal Gadot, is set for release on June 23, 2017, and the character will make her debut in next year’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice . While unexpected director turnovers happen from time to time (even to the almighty Marvel ), such an early instance of behind-the-scenes tumultuousness isn’t exactly an encouraging sign for the burgeoning DC Cinematic Universe. James Wan Eyed for "Aquaman"

The Furious 7 director would join Jason Momoa for the DCCU. Story by Matt Cummings Director James Wan has scored big in recent years, moving effortless through The Conjuring and Insidious franchises with relative ease. His most recent production - Furious 7 - has already roared to an amazing $180m, vaulting him into the spotlight with his quick action edits and ability to navigate a nearly impossible shooting schedule. Now, he could be on his way to the deep ocean. According to The Hollywood Reporter , Wan is being pursued by Warner Bros. to direct Aquaman , featuring the classic titular character. No official offer has been made, but the studio appears to have started preliminary talks. Actor Jason Momoa is already signed to star as the lead and will supposedly make an appearance in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice . The Justice Leaguer will star in several of Warners' superhero films, including the BvS two-parter. Competing scripts are being d

David Ayer Shows Off His #SuicideSquad

The director posts the first group photo, but one big question remains. On Tuesday, Director David Ayer posted this photo of the first read-through for the film: The #SuicideSquad cast reading is a who's who of #Hollywood . http://t.co/GsZjNlEcSz pic.twitter.com/18oe60uhsS — Good Morning America (@GMA) April 10, 2015 Pictured in the photo are Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) and a few new additions. Female Director Wanted For "Wonder Woman" Film

In its efforts to be seen as competing with Marvel’s ever-expanding movie universe, Warner Bros. put out its own slate of Justice League-flavoured films recently. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio and DC Comics are looking to change things up behind the camera, aiming to hire a female director for Wonder Woman . While it shouldn't have to be seen as a landmark decision, the fact remains that despite early discussions on several films, there has yet to be a female director on either Warner Bros. or Marvel’s current efforts (you have to reach back to 2008’s Punisher: War Zone to find Lexi Alexander bringing a studio effort to life). And finding a good director to bring Gal Gadot ’s first solo outing as Wonder Woman would be a firm step forward on that front. No names were mentioned in the piece, but there are several good candidates out there, ranging from known film names like Mimi Leder and Kathryn Bigelow and less famous but equally capable people su

Could Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor Appear In Suicide Squad Film?

Flush with ambition for their new slate of superhero adventures, Warner Bros. and DC appear to be planning more crossovers. Nothing is confirmed yet, but according to Deadline , the companies are talking to Jesse Eisenberg about bringing his take on Lex Luthor from Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice to the film based on the Suicide Squad that has David Ayer attached to direct. As of right now, it’s only at the discussion stage mostly because Eisenberg has a busy schedule ahead. He’s already on board for Now You See Me 2 and has been circling a role in Todd Phillips’ planned new based-on-reality stoner comedy Arms & The Dudes . This would clearly indicate that Eisenberg’s version of Superman’s most famous villain won’t be suffering a Zod-style neck snap at the end of Dawn Of Justice and will be hanging around the DC movie universe to cause trouble. His presence in Suicide Squad (which finds a group of the comic-world’s biggest supervillains recruited for dangerous miss
