James Cameron Gives Advice For Spider-Man Reboot

James Cameron Gives Advice For Spider-Man Reboot Director James Cameron, who raised 3-D filmmaking to new heights with Avatar, is downplaying reports that he is consulting with director Marc Webb about a rebooted Spider-Man movie. Though Cameron's Avatar producing partner Jon Landau told MTV that the duo met with Webb, Cameron now tells MTV, "I never talked with them directly" - Cameron added that he's happy to speak with Webb, who will be shooting the new Spidey movie in 3-D, but added, "It's not like I want to tell them how to do it. ... It's more like, just don't make the same dumbass mistakes that we made for 10 years." As for what Cameron would like to see in a new, rebooted Spider-Man? (Remember that Cameron himself once wanted to adapt Spidey to the movies.) "I'd like to seem him reinvented in the same way that Batman got reinvented. ... That's very successful," he said. James Cameron Talks To Marc Webb About Upcoming Spider-Man Film

James Cameron Talks To Marc Webb About Upcoming Spider-Man Film Following the smash success of “Avatar,” James Cameron is Hollywood’s new guru of greatness. It’s no surprise, then, that filmmakers looking to master the complexities of 3-D, science-fiction and state-of-the-art special effects are seeking him out for guidance as if he were a bearded man sitting atop a mountain. Now, in a new development that should thrill fans of our friendly neighborhood webslinger, MTV News has learned the name of the latest filmmaker to meet with Cameron: "Spider-Man" director Marc Webb. “Last [week] we met the director of [the next ‘Spider-Man’ film],” Cameron’s producing partner Jon Landau revealed to us when he stopped by the MTV studio, explaining that the “Avatar” filmmaker and Spider-Man’s new gatekeeper compared notes Wednesday evening. “[Webb] wants to do the next one in 3-D, which they’ve announced that they want to do. So, we want to try to support that as much as possible.” Althou

"Dear John" Over Takes "Avatar"

"Dear John" Over Takes "Avatar" Finally a movie has over taken the all mighty Avatar and it was a love story. With it being Superbowl weekend and all the guys at home and the women nothing to do, they flocked to the movies this weekend. Sony-quarterbacked "Dear John" thwarted a drive by James Cameron's "Avatar" for an eighth No. 1 weekend, as the over-achieving romantic drama's wily counter-programming play scored an estimated $32.4 million in opening domestic boxoffice during Super Bowl weekend. "Avatar" posted a $23.6 million tally to grab second place on the frame, just days after receiving nine Oscar nominations. The sci-fi epic -- which this week became the top-grossing domestic release ever, after previously setting foreign and global records -- lifted its cumulative boxoffice to $630.1 million domestically and $2.21 billion worldwide. Lionsgate's "From Paris With Love," starring John Travolta and Jonathan

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows To Be In 3D

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows To Be In 3D Thanks Avatar, now every movie that comes out will be thinking about being in 3D. Slowly evolving from fad to Standard Blockbuster Procedure (the jury's still out on whether it'll slip back into "just a phase territory, but post-Avatar, that won't be for a while), 3D is going to Hogwarts. Yes, both chunks of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows will be converted to the format. Warners was apparently closed-mouthed when asked to confirm, so until the official announcement this is technically a rumour. But that shoe is expected to drop before the week - and knowing the speed at which these things move in the Internet age, the day - is over. Each film will cost $5 million to convert and the process will also shove the release date of Titans back a week to 2nd April. The Potter pics are still on course for 19th November of this year and 15th July 2011 respectively. Who wants to bet one of the 3D glasses companies will mark

3D Glass What Really Happens To Them When The Curtains Fall?

3D Glass What Really Happens To Them When The Curtains Fall? Do you ever wonder what happens to the 3D glass that you get at the theater? And wonder what really happens to them after the movie. James Cameron's Avatar continues its march toward box-office domination: As of this weekend, its sixth since being released, it's become the second-highest grossing film of all time (not adjusted for inflation). They usually get washed or recycled. There are a number of manufacturers battling for control of the 3-D market. Most of these companies make reusable glasses, though the market leader, RealD, primarily makes single-use spectacles. (RealD has also launched a line of reusable designer glasses.) Reusable glasses are generally collected in trays and then cleaned in a dishwasherlike machine (or, in some cases, in an actual dishwasher). IMAX Corporation has its own, proprietary washers that exhibitors are required to use on-site. Dolby Laboratories demands that theaters use a commerci

Avatar Tops The 1 Billion Dollar Mark

Avatar Tops The 1 Billion Dollar Mark Twentieth Century Fox's "Avatar" reached a worldwide cume of $1.02 billion through Sunday, leading the most lucrative Christmas season in history. "Avatar" becomes the fourth highest grosser ever, behind James Cameron's "Titanic" ($1.8 billion), "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" ($1.12 billion) and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" ($1.07 billion). "Avatar" should soon eclipse the latter two pics. Over New Year's weekend, "Avatar" grossed an estimated $68.3 million from 3,461 runs at the domestic B.O. -- the best number ever for a film in its third weekend -- for a cume of $352.1 million in its 17th day in release. Overseas, the 3D sci-fi fantasy added $133.5 million for a foreign cume of $670.2 million in 21 days in release. Of "Avatar's" global total, $66.4 million has come from Imax theaters, a record for the large-format

Sam Worthington Or Ryan Reynolds To Play Flash Gordon In Remake

Sam Worthington Or Ryan Reynolds To Play Flash Gordon In Remake Flash Gordon is one of my all time favorite films as a kid I remember watching it on my father's beta. And then as I got older watching it on VHS. Who doesn't love this movie. Forget about it! A remake I am not so sure of but the two actors they have in mind could fill the Iconic role that Sam J. Jones made so famous. Here is some interesting news I found out. Newcomer Sam Worthington is rising up in the ranks! We hear buzz that he may be starring in a Flash Gordon remake. He currently stars in James Cameron’s Avatar, and has been named as one of the hot breakout stars of the year. Sources say Sam is up against the sexy Ryan Reynolds for the leading role in the sci-fi flick. “If he gets the role it would be quite a big deal as Flash is an all-American hero,” dished one Hollywood insider. “Right now it’s between Sam, Ryan Reynolds and one or two others for the lead role should the project actually get off the gro

Sherlock Holmes Movie Review By: Windy

Sherlock Holmes Movie Review By: Windy Windy has out done herself again. Coming in with a home run review! What would we do without her? Make sure to visit her site and let her know what a great job she is doing. "Sherlock Holmes", directed by Guy Ritchie, takes place in 1891 London, just as the well-known Tower Bridge was being constructed. The film is extremely fast paced in both movement and dialogue-too fast at times. It may have been the dialect of the time, but in 2009, the words become hard to discern. Kudos to Robert Downey Jr for picking up such a strong dialect, but it needed to be slowed for the audience. Downey Jr's character is well-developed, as we hear his thoughts throughout the movie, see into his home and learn about his techniques for solving mysteries. Dr. John Watson, played by Jude Law, is also well developed as Holmes' partner who has to balance life-threatening detective work, his friendship with Holmes and his relationship with his soon-to

Avatar Sequel Gossip Next Film May Venture Off Of Pandora

Avatar Sequel Gossip Next Film May Venture Off Of Pandora Given Avatar’s strong showing at the box office for the past few weekends, and that James Cameron and Fox have invested considerable amounts of blood and money in the film, you can rest assured that we’re going to get a sequel (and most likely a third film to complete the trilogy). The only question now is what those sequels will be about. According to a recent LA Times Hero Complex interview, which occurred on Avatar’s opening night, Cameron is considering exploring the other moons surrounding the gas-giant planet Polyphemus, which Pandora orbits. This confirms an earlier rumor by Market Saw, and it gives us an idea about the increased scope of the Avatar universe. Cameron’s quote, as well as a few other sequel bits, after the break. And of course, spoilers for the ending of Avatar as well. In reference to the other moons around Polyphemus, Cameron said: We have some story ideas about how to branch out into other moons of Poly

Sherlock Holmes Has Monster Christmas Day

Sherlock Holmes Has Monster Christmas Day Warner Bros.' period action pic "Sherlock Holmes" raked in $24.9 million yesterday, notching the best Christmas day opening ever at the domestic box office. Directed by Guy Ritchie, "Sherlock" marks the Blighty helmer's first wide release stateside after making his mark with a string of high-octane actioners such as "Snatch" and "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels." The film, in play at 3,626 venues, easily becomes the best opening for Ritchie as his previous pics received platform bows. "Sherlock" also served up runner-up opening day records for producer Joel Silver and leading thesp Robert Downey, Jr., whose respective highs are "The Matrix Reloaded" ($42.5 million) and "Iron Man" ($38.7 million). "Sherlock" is Ritchie's second collaboration with Silver after last year's Gerard Butler shoot-em up "RockNRolla." In addition, "Sherlock

Bryan Singer To Direct "X-Men: First Class"

Bryan Singer To Direct "X-Men: First Class" Singer first mentioned that he'll be working on the project while talking to MySpace last night at "Avatar" premiere. At this time neither Fox nor Marvel has had official comment, but sources close to the matter say that yes, Singer is on board in a big way. The "develop" news insinuates that the last script by Josh Schwartz may not be in Singer's future plans. It was expected that the new film would tell the story of Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast and other familiar characters as teenagers when they first meet Professor Charles Xavier and join his School for Gifted Youngsters. The premise has been rumored for sometime, but was hinted at with a subplot of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" which featured early incarnations of Cyclops and Emma Frost (aka The White Queen) among others. It's unclear if Singer's intention to bring a new vision to the film will change that scenario. The irony of Singer

Battle Angel Alita Manga Next For James Cameron

Battle Angel Alita Manga Next For James Cameron What better for James Cameron after the 3D sci-fi CGI action extravaganza that is Avatar than... the 3D sci-fi CGI action extravaganza that is Battle Angel Alita? Talking to MTV as he passed by on the Avatar publicity treadmill, Cameron revealed that his long-talked about adaptation of Yukito Kishiro's cyberpunk manga is still very much on his agenda. "We've got a very good script, we've done about a year of production design, and we've put together an art reel that shows the arc of the film," he says. "It's pretty much 'just add water' and we're ready to go." Battle Angel Alita (Gun / Dream in Japan) is a nine-volume series from the 1990s, featuring an amnesiac female cyborg rescued from a scrap heap by a cybernetics professor, who rebuilds her so that she can become a kick-ass martial arts bounty hunter. The first two volumes became an anime in 1993, but Kishiro was never enthusiastic

Sam Worthington As Captain America?

Sam Worthington As Captain America? First off I know that he is from Australia and not America, How dare I suggest him for the role of an American hero. I could care less where he is from. I for one wouldn't mind seeing him play the Iconic Role Steve Rogers (Captain America) I am a huge fan of the Captain America comic books and have become a huge fan of Sam Worthington. When I first saw him in "Rogue " Yes it was a Bad movie, well really bad but I thought he did a great job in the film for what is was worth. Then next came Terminator-Salvation, which he as the best part of the film. Cameron's sci-fi epic movie, he was wearing a very nice stylized T-shirt featuring Marvel superhero Captain America on it. The very act of wearing that shirt sparked rumors that he was angling for the role of Steve Rogers in The First Avenger: Captain America, one of the films Marvel is producing leading up to an Avengers movie. Worthington laughed when asked about it. "I know, the b

Avatar Getting Encouraging Feedback About The Film

Avatar Getting Encouraging Feedback About The Film Avatar screened last night in London for members of the press and US screenings started this morning. I saw the film first thing today, and embargo keeps me from saying anything about it. Twitter has been fairly quiet, with those who’ve seen it abiding by the embargo so far. But some UK outlets don’t care as much about the embargo, and there is already a full-fledged review in The Sun and some useful comments in The Guardian. The Sun’s ‘review’ is typical for the paper — thin and shallow. But it is quite exuberant. “The final battle scene is 20 minutes long and absolutely mind-blowing,” the paper says. “It is overwhelming, and that is because you are emotionally tied up in the characters and the story.” The Guardian is more interested in preserving the embargo, but does pass along a couple of rumor-busting notes that are very much worth paying attention to: “And there have been a lot of rumours…Rumours that the 3D effects were making

James Cameron Promises Avatar Sequel

James Cameron Promises Avatar Sequel You've heard some of the buzz surrounding filmmaker James Cameron's upcoming 3-D sci-fi epic movie Avatar? Well, Cameron has a message for the haters: You ain't seen nothing yet. Coming up for air after "four and a half years of intense work," Cameron insists in an exclusive interview that he "consciously made a decision not to read any article or news breaks about Oscar buzz" while he labored to finish the film and also admits that he's been "well aware" of some of the negative fan buzz surrounding the project, based on screenings of early footage and trailers. "I know there's been a lot of talk and speculation about it, but it's kind of like the generic Oscar buzz out there—it's pretty ridiculous when people haven't even see the movie," he says, addressing the issue. "All anyone has seen is the 25 minutes of various scenes we showed at Comic-Con—and that's not the mo
