ISLE OF DOGS tells the story of ATARI KOBAYASHI, 12-year-old ward to corrupt Mayor Kobayashi. Disney and Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Last Jedi delivered an early Christmas present for Hollywood and theater owners over the weekend with a near-record $220 million debut in North America, the second-best showing of all time behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Final numbers released Monday matched Sunday's estimate of $220 million. The Last Jedi opened a mere 11 percent behind The Force Awakens ' record-shattering domestic launch of $247.9 million on the same weekend in 2015, a rare feat in the age of sequelitis. Revenue for the weekend spiked more than 30 percent over the same weekend last year, helping to narrow the yearly gap from 4 percent to 3 percent. Internationally, director Rian Johnson's tentpole took in $230.8 million from 54 markets for a worldwide launch of $450.8 million. As gleaned from one of the movie's stars, Sandra Bullock , the new story is not a remake or reboot of the Ocean's films, but rather a new chapter, a spin-off. It'll follow Danny Ocean's sister Debbie ( Bullock ), who gets out of prison and starts to plan a heist involving a priceless necklace and the prestigious Met Gala in New York. To pull off the crime, she'll need to put together a team that includes Lou ( Cate Blanchett ), Nine Ball ( Rihanna ), Amita ( Mindy Kaling ), Constance ( Awkwafina ), Rose ( Helena Bonham Carter ), Daphne Kluger ( Anne Hathaway ), and Tammy ( Sarah Paulson ). Between Michael Jordan 's initial retirement from the NBA in 1993 and his comeback in 1995, the basketball superstar made the unlikely decision to start playing baseball instead. That strange interlude is now set to be the subject of a biographical film called The Prospect , which Will Smith is producing. Jordan made the jump partly to fulfil a promise he made to his father, who died in 1993. Jordan signed with the Birmingham Barons, the Chicago White Sox's minor league team, and later also played for the Scottsdale Scorpions. He acquitted himself well, but eventually returned to basketball.
