TURBO Review. Entertaining But Terribly Superficial

Turbo Review By: MattInRC Does Turbo's fast moves and beautiful animation make up for its superficial, predictable, and uninspiring tone? Read on to find out. DreamWorks' newest animated film Turbo is proof positive of a growing trend for the genre: the production of slick-looking yet mindless pap. Gone are the days when Disney ruled with its films filled with hope AND a message. And while Turbo isn't terrible, there's too many characters who just aren't as funny or profound as they could have been. Garden slug Theo (voiced by Ryan Reynolds ) lives with a community of snails who set out daily to collect fallen and spoiled tomatoes from the family garden, all while listening to safety announcements from his anxious brother Chet ( Paul Giamatti ). He's got reason to panic: the local crows regularly pick off the snails, and a human boy offers a dangerous hazard to the entire community. But Theo dreams of racing, inspired by the story of Indy r

VH-1 Documentary 'Downloaded" Review. Is Your Ticket To Hating The Music Industry

VH-1 Documentary 'Downloaded" Review By: MattInRC Is the downloading of music illegal, or the " foundation of the future " as Internet activist John Perry Barlow postulates in the VH-1 documentary Downloaded ? Either way, you'll like this fascinating backstory about Napster, the company in 2000 that brought users and their music libraries together, while scaring the bejesus out of the Recording Industry Association of America. Director Alex Winter mines opinions from both sides, including Napster founders Shawn Fanning and Sean Parker , who as college students introduced all of us to downloadable music. Their simple but ingenious program did nothing short of blindside a music industry that was too comfortable with its profits, proved the power of a burgeoning Internet, and showed the steps investors were willing to take to keep the company afloat. Their unceremonious end in 2002 by a federal judge is harped upon by plenty of Napster supporters, which Wint

New The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Character Posters

Anything other movie marketing departments can do, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire can do better - and with more tracker jackers* - and we're excited to debut two new character banners revealing Sam Claflin's Finnick and Lynn Cohen's Mags, his 80 year-old mentor from District 4. These posters, part of a broader roll out of promos foregrounding Panem's Hunger Games tributes from down the ages, could be just the thing to distract a dissenting nation. The Capitol's inspiration behind its propaganda-styled campaign daren't speak its name (clue: it rhymes with 'Blosef Derrbels'), but it's done a great job of selling the corrupt grandeur of President Snow's state machinery. Instead of eating cake, the people of the 12 Districts will be invited to revel in the 'The Quarter Quell', a killing ground to which Katniss ( Jennifer Lawrence ), Peeta Mellark ( Josh Hutcherson ) and other successful tributes will be invited (read: ordered) for

Edge Of Tomorrow Poster Starring Tom Cruise

If you were headed to this year’s San Diego Comic-Con looking forward to seeing something of Tom Cruise’ s new sci-fi thriller All You Need Is Kill , we have bad news: you won’t. Because it’s now called Edge Of Tomorrow and, fear not, will be part of Warner Bros.’ panel on Saturday. To go with the new name, there’s a poster for the movie. Edge Of Tomorrow finds Cruise as Lieutenant Colonel Bill Cage, dropped into the middle of a near-future conflict between Earth and a seemingly unbeatable alien race. Cage is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously sent into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, he finds himself thrown into a time loop where fights and dies in the same battle, but with each repetition, becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill. Despite the title shift, the movie remains based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s novel. Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, Jonas Armstron
