Evil Dead Review. Goriest Film Of The Year

Evil Dead Review By: MattInRC Evil Dead is one of the goriest films to ever grace the big screen. But can it compete with its cult classic predecessor? We've been lamenting for awhile now on the uneven state of horror films, and for good reason. For every creepy and excellent Sinister in 2012, we were forced to endure a totally predictable and barely watchable Paranormal Activity 4 and The Possession . The problem lately has been simple: mindless horror without story. Sinister proved you could find a perfect balance between the two, generating all the creep-fest while persevering with good character development. It's too bad that nothing else recently came close to replicating Sinister's results; and while we haven't seen Mama yet, we were hopeful that 2013 signaled the return of excellent slasher cinema - until we saw the remake of Evil Dead . A mixture of A Cabin in the Woods and The Human Centipede , Evil Dead is easily the goriest film to be releas

Jurassic Park 3D Review. Amazing 3D Transfer

Jurassic Park 3D Review By: MattInRC The 3D release of the classic Jurassic Park looks and sounds amazing but those are not the only reasons why you should see it. For those of you too old to remember what stop-motion was, watch The Empire Strikes Back , particularly those scenes of the Battle on Hoth. Essentially, one you constructed a model of your ship (or in this case, the AT-AT Walkers), created a diorama around them, then shot each movement before adjusting the model once again. It was a laborious and painstaking process, one that could neither resolve fluidity of movement nor allow designers to think beyond very limited uses. We have seen all-CGI based films like Tron (1982) and The Last Starfighter (1984), but issues persisted. In other words, it still looked like CGI. But it wasn't until 1993's Jurassic Park that everything changed. For the first time, we were treated to photo-realistic visual effects that seemed to step off the screen. It was a

Netflix's Arrested Development Will Hit May 26th

At first there were only going to be 13 episodes in Netflix's Arrested Development revival. Then 13 became 14, and now, as showrunner/creator/funny merchant Mitch Hurwitz explains himself in the show's official press release, there will be 15 new Arrested Development episodes, and you'll be able to watch them come May 26. A statement from Netflix chief Ted Sarandos says that AD is being shown in “a brand-new way, crafted for the on-demand generation that has come to discover the show in the years since it last appeared on TV.” He added, “The highly anticipated return of this show is sure to make history all over again.” Mr. Hurwitz said in another statement that Mr. Sarandos was “going to be immensely disappointed.” “In truth we are doing something very ambitious that can only be done with Netflix as partners and on their platform. Finally my simple wish for the show is coming true: that it be broadcast every second around the clock to every television, computer or m

LucasArts' Is Closed For Good

It's with a heavy heart and RSI-riddled point-and-clicking fingers that we bring you the news of LucasArts' demise. Closed down by its new owners Disney, the much-loved video game developer is laying off all its staff and turning into a licensing entity. In other words, Star Wars: First Assault and Star Wars 1313 are no more. In this way, the Golden Guy will live on through other game designers picking up their previous creations, which include the Star Wars and Indiana Jones games, as well as Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion and Sam & Max, some of which are already in the safe hands of LucasArts' spiritual successor, TellTale games. Some of Lucasfilm Games' (as it was originally known) best-loved releases - notably the Monkey Island series - are still available on iPhones, iPads and elsewhere, but for the time being LucasArts' legacy lives on in the minds of its fans and anyone who regularly indulges in a spot of Insult Swordfighting. Interestingly, ther

The Great Gatsby Trailer W/ New Music From Beyoncé & André 3000

First thing to note is that music. Like Romeo + Juliet , Luhrmann has opted for contemporary musical picks, arguing that he's following the author down a path of pop innovation. “Fitzgerald described contemporary music in his books,” he points out. “People would say, ‘Why have you put all this silly jazz pop music in there?’" Nothing silly about a musical line-up that's been overseen by Jay-Z and includes Mrs Z - Beyoncé - André 3000, Lana Del Rey and Florence And The Machine. The 'green light' track towards the end of the piece indicates that the text has been a guiding influence for the score as well as the movie. There's are some new posters too, leading with Leonardo DiCaprio's lovelorn, enigmatic Midwesterner Jay Gatsby, whose undying adoration for the willowy Daisy Buchanan ( Carey Mulligan ) drives the story. I know the people at Pixar were busy creating Toy Story 16. But the time they took was worth it. The script is fantastic. And it has everything I loved about
