Casey Affleck To Direct Josh Hamilton's Story

Josh Hamilton’s rise from the depths of an addiction to crack to become the American League’s most feared slugger is dramatic enough to have been scripted. Sure enough, Hamilton has entrusted his rights to producer Basil Iwanyk and Thunder Road Pictures to be shopped for a feature that will be written and directed by Casey Affleck . Iwanyk has partnered with Kevin Walsh and The Walsh Company on the film, which he and Affleck will pitch to the town shortly. The best way to describe Hamilton’s journey is to liken him to Roy Hobbs of The Natural, because Hamilton fits that description. The difference: Hamilton’s fall from grace was self-inflicted. A bonafide prodigy who was throwing a 96 mph fast ball by age 15, Hamilton was the first player chosen in the 1999 Major League Baseball draft, signing with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for a record $4 million. His parents stuck close to their son, until the three were broadsided by another car. His mother was badly hurt and his parents went home

First Look At Tom Cruise As Jack Reacher

Itinerant megabadass Jack Reacher , a modern-day ronin with a head like the inside of a Swiss watchmaker's studio and a thirst for justice, is coming - scratch that, storming - towards our screens. And we have the first shot of Tom Cruise as Lee Child's iconic hero, from the forthcoming movie of the same name (Jack Reacher, not Lee Child's Iconic Hero). What's more - if you pick up the new issue of Empire, in which the shot made its debut, you can read the thoughts of Cruise and McQuarrie on the challenges of bringing Child's bone-crunching badass to the big screen. And yes, McQuarrie talks about the disparity in size from the Reacher of the books. "That's to confuse character with characteristics," laughs McQuarrie. "I don't think there was a Wolverine that satisfied the fans, and there wasn't a Jason Bourne that matched everyone's interpretations. Right from the outset, I thought, 'let's get the character down on paper

Sean Aston Has Cabin Fever

Back in February, word spread that comic book artist-turned director Kaare Andrews would be in charge of the megaphone for Patient Zero , the first of two planned Cabin Fever follow-ups now gearing up to shoot. And he’s rounded up the first batch of potential victims, with Sean Aston, Brando Eaton and Ben Hollingsworth aboard. Patient Zero will, as the name might suggest, unspool the origins of the flesh-gobbling virus that Eli Roth first unleashed in 2003’s first film. The story will see a Caribbean cruise ship unexpectedly run ashore on a medical research island and the passengers finding that their floating party time has suddenly turned into painful, deadly, abject terror. Andrews will be cranking the cameras in the Dominican Republic this August. Astin, of course, needs little introduction, primarily thanks to his role as Sam Gamgee in a certain trilogy about lords and rings. Eaton is a veteran of US telly drama The Secret Life Of The American Teenager and a variety of oth
