Universal Pictures is bringing in Chuck Hogan to rewrite The Rockford Files for Vince Vaughn to star. Hogan takes on the job as FX has set The Strain , his collaboration with Guillermo del Toro, for summer, and he adapts Thirteen Hours: A Firsthand Account Of What Really Happened In Benghazi for Paramount, the book that author Mitchell Zuckoff wrote with surviving members of the Annex Security Team who fought the battle that led to the death of four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens. Hogan , whose novel Prince Of Thieves was the basis for the superb Ben Affleck -directed crime thriller The Town , will rewrite the Rockford script originally penned by script team of David Levien and Brian Koppelman. Vaughn is going to play Jim Rockford, in a feature adaptation of the memorable series that ran on NBC from 1974-80 and featured James Garner as the down-and-out private eye. Elizabeth Banks is set to make her directing debut in the upcoming Pitch Perfect sequel, EW has confirmed. “Elizabeth originated the idea for Pitch Perfect and was instrumental in making the first film such a huge success,” said Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley in a release. “She brings an enormous amount of energy and experience to everything she works on and we’re thrilled that she is making her feature directorial debut on Pitch Perfect 2 .” Banks, who co-starred and produced the original, will continue with those roles as well in the sequel to the hit 2012 musical comedy. Although no casting announcements have been announced, The Hollywood Reporter quotes insiders saying that Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are likely to return. Universal Pictures has tapped the director of one of the studio’s most lucrative and successful franchises to take on the fifth installment of The Bourne Identity franchise . Justin Lin will direct the sequel to the Tony Gilroy-directed The Bourne Legacy , the pic that kicked off storyline of Aaron Cross, the character played by Jeremy Renner . Renner is set to return as Cross in a story hatched by ‘Invictus’ and ‘Sherlock Holmes’ scribe Anthony Peckham. Frank Marshall and Captivate Entertainment’s Ben Smith and Jeffrey Weiner are also back as producers, and Lin also will produce through his Perfect Storm banner.
