Like Romeo + Juliet , Luhrmann has opted for contemporary musical picks, arguing that he's following the author down a path of pop innovation. “Fitzgerald described contemporary music in his books,” he points out. “People would say, ‘Why have you put all this silly jazz pop music in there?’" Nothing silly about a musical line-up that's been overseen by Jay-Z and includes Mrs Z - Beyoncé - André 3000, Lana Del Rey and Florence And The Machine. The 'green light' track towards the end of the piece indicates that the text has been a guiding influence for the score as well as the movie. The new trailer for Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby has splashed down in a riot of style and a little more substance on how his 3D interpretation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel will play out. The focus this time is firmly on Leonardo DiCaprio's mysterious millionaire, Jay Gatsby. Soundtracked again by Kanye and Jay-Z's 'No Church In The Wild', we see him speeding his banana yellow Duisenberg through New York, Tobey Maguire's wide-eyed Nick Carraway in tow, shaking hands, scratching backs and pulling off shady deals that keep him in shirts, champagne and spectacular parties. There's more of Meyer Wolfsheim, a shadowy figure inspired by real-life Jewish gangster Arnold Rothstein, played here by Bollywood great Amitabh Bachchan. Warner Bros is working on not one but two high-profile films about the illegal poaching and trafficking in endangered animals around the world. Both projects are being produced by Tobey Maguire‘s Material Pictures, Leonardo DiCaprio‘s Appian Way and Tom Hardy‘s Executive Options. I don’t know if both of these projects get made, but at a time when Hollywood studios are preoccupied with pretend crises like zombies and vampires, bravo for a major to step up and try to weave in a global problem like ivory trafficking into a drama. The first project is being written by Up In The Air co-writer Sheldon Turner as a star vehicle for Hardy , based on an idea by the Dark Knight Rises and Warrior star. The untitled film is set in Africa and the aim is for Hardy to play a former Special Forces soldier who signs on with a friend to work in the bush, training rangers to fight off the poachers decimating the rhino and elephant populations in Zimbabwe. Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Tom Hardy are teaming up to produce an untitled animal-trafficking drama set up at Warner Bros., sources tell The Hollywood Reporter . Hardy came up with the idea, inspired by friends who are former Special Forces operatives and went on to become anti-poaching fighters in South Africa and other nations. The goal, say sources, is to make a movie in the vein of Traffic , Steven Soderbergh’s multistory take on the various impacts of the war on drugs. In this case, the story would look at everything from the ground war on poachers in the African savanna to how animal material ends up in the fashion houses of Paris. It's unclear whether DiCaprio, Maguire or Hardy would act in the movie. A search for a writer has begun. DiCaprio and Maguire are lifelong pals but rarely have worked together, though both are starring in The Great Gatsby for Warners, which is set for release in summer 2013. DiCaprio also is longtime animal-rights activist.

Lee Daniels is set to direct the sexual thriller, which follows a Miami Times reporter as he returns to his Florida hometown to investigate the imprisonment of a death row inmate. Pedro Almodovar developed a feature project with Dexter for more than a decade before Daniels became involved early this year. Hilary Shor is producing with Daniels. Ben Affleck is in talks to play the role of Tom Buchanan in The Great Gatsby, the Baz Luhrmann-directed 3D adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald literary classic at Warner Bros. Now, Affleck will have to work to fit this in. After starring in and directing The Town, he’s prepping to direct Argo, a film about the 1979 Iran hostage crisis. But signs point toward him making time in his schedule to join Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan in Gatsby . Both projects are at Warner Bros. Tom Buchanan is the husband of Daisy ( Mulligan ), in a role originated by Bruce Dern in the 1974 film. The 34-year-old star of the web-slinging superhero franchise said preproduction snags aren't dampening his mood about the fourth installment. The next "Spider-Man" film had been scheduled to swing into theaters May 6, 2011, but that seems unlikely now that "Thor," another big-screen Marvel superhero adaptation, has hammered out the same release date. "Like anything, it's a process," Maguire said Thursday. "We're just in the midst of the process. We have a lot of great stuff in terms of story and script. We're just trying to dial it in and get it ready as quickly as possible. Of course, these movies are a very big undertaking and take a lot more time than a drama or something more straightforward." Yes, the filmmakers are working on the script, but there is nothing unusual about that at all, productions always are working and tweaking scripts right up until principal photography begins and that is still a few months away. End of update. Looks like everyone's friendly neighborhood web slinger has been been placed on indefinite hold said an inside source exclusively to the IESB today. Apparently, several department heads working on the SPIDER-M4N production were notified of the halt last Thursday.
