BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

2084 To Be 1984 Meets The Terminator

Alloy Entertainment is partnering with 24 showrunner Howard Gordon and writer-director James Wong for a sci-fi project titled 2084 . The project is being developed simultaneously as a film and a young adult book series, with HarperCollins buying the three-tome series. Gordon and Wong conceived the project, with the books being written by debut author Gregg Rosenblum. Gordon and Wong will also continue to work with Alloy and Rosenblum on the novels while developing the film with Alloy execs. Pitched as a sort of 1984 meets The Terminator, the story is set in the late 21st century, a time where robots, once created to aid humans and fight wars, now control the population’s every move. Alloy’s Leslie Morgenstein and Bob Levy will produce the film version, with Gordon and Wong serving as executive producers. Gordon is best known for showrunning 24, the real-time anti-terrorism thriller that was a staple on Fox for most of the 2000s. He also worked on Buffy the Vampire Slayer an

Skynet Goes Live Tonight. Are You Ready?

People are telling us that the world is going to end on May 21,2011. I am more afraid of this. The birth of Skynet . That's right Skynet . If you haven't been around for the last 20 years then you may have no idea what I am talking about. But like most of we have all seen the Terminator franchise starring Arnold Schwarzenegger would know that at 8:11 p.m. tonight, April 19th, 2011 Skynet, the military-designed artificial intelligence system, will become self-aware and turn against its human creators. And on April 21, 2011. Judgment Day . Kyle Reese and Derek Reese witness the launch of U.S. missiles while playing ball in their yard. Now sure we know that Judgement Day has been rescheduled a few times over the years to accommodate the time travel subplots in various Terminator sequels, but still: the end is near! But  according  to Sarah Conner Chronicles today is the day. If you want to join the Skynet Becomes Self Aware visit their Facebook Page . Please

Justin Lin Talks Terminator & Arnold Schwarzenegger

Collider got the chance to talk  Fast Five director Justin Lin about the possibility of him directing a new Terminator film and working with Arnold Schwarzenegger .  Briefly, Lin says he has a take on Terminator he would like to see and that he’s spoken with Arnold Schwarzenegger. However, he’s also looking at other projects and hasn't decided what will be his next directing gig. Speaking of big-budget movies and studio franchises, there’s a lot of talk about you getting to do the Terminator franchise. Is this happening? Are you looking forward to it? JUSTIN LIN: I think one of the great things is that when I got started, no one would return my calls, and now I get a lot of phone calls, which is good. I have options. Terminator was one of my favorite films growing up. And I feel I have a take that I would love to see, and I’ve talked with Arnold and we’ve talked and we’ll see. Again, I would love to do it, but it has to be the right circumstances. It has to be the r

I'll Be Back-New Terminator Film Moving Forward

I'll Be Back-New Terminator Film Moving Forward A new movie in the Terminator series, which last came to the screen in 2009's Terminator Salvation, may be one step closer to happening. According to Variety , the current owners of the rights to the franchise, a hedge fund called Pacificor LLC, announced today that it has hired the Hollywood talent agency William Morris Endeavor (WME) to help sell the rights to a studio or production company. That's a smart move, since Pacificor has no prior experience making movies. The fund picked up the Terminator rights for $29.5 million in an auction last February after the previous owners, a company called Halcyon, went bankrupt. Pacificor had some post-auction talks with Sony and Lionsgate, who were also bidding for the rights, but nothing came of that. The now-defunct Halcyon itself bought the rights in 2007 for $30 million from original producer Mario Kassar, with financial help from Pacificor. The package include the rights

Sam Worthington Crazy Talk About A Terminator Sequel

Sam Worthington Crazy Talk About A Terminator Sequel Sam Worthington has a crazy idea for a Terminator sequel. And it starts out with them going back in time. Doesn't that sound familiar or similar to Terminator 2? I had an idea that we'd go back in time to when Marcus was first put in jail. They broke Linda Hamilton out of jail in [Terminator 2: Judgment Day], out of the nuthouse. In this one, they'd (John Connor) have to go back in time and break Marcus out of jail. It's the same kind of mirror image. He would be more fallible, because he's human; he's not metallic. He can get hurt. He still has the gung-ho attitude, but he can get hurt now. I think that I might be one of the few who actually enjoyed Terminator Salvation, didn't think that it was a bad film.  Sam admits that when he told people about this idea they didn't go for it.  He would like to take the Marcus character to another leave and would like to star in another Terminator film.

Terminator Franchise Sold To Underdog

Terminator Franchise Sold To Underdog Doesn't look like Skynet had enough cash to buy the franchise, and it is in the hands of Pacificor. Is this the company that starts SkyNet? Maybe we should ask our friends over at TheArnoldFans . I know they would have the answer. The franchise sold to Pacificor yes the same Santa Barbara-based hedge fund Pacificor. (This is the same Pacificor whom Halcyon accused in a lawsuit of extortion, bribery, and fraud and demanded $30M in damages.) Say what? Furious Sony Pictures Entertainment and Lionsgate bidding war was going on and then Bam Pacificor sneaks right in and Terminates them both at the last Minute. Sony and Lionsgate dropped out at just under $29.5 million when it became clear that Pacificor "was willing to pay almost any amount of money for Terminator," an insider tells me. Halcyon will receive $5 million for every Terminator movie made from now on, as well as retains the rich revenue streams from the movies Terminator 3 and 4

Sony Wants A Piece Of The Terminator Franchise

Sony Wants A Piece Of The Terminator Franchise Sony's joined Lionsgate in the bidding on the rights to the "Terminator" franchise. The studio had no comment but a source close to the bidding confirmed that Sony submitted a bid Thursday, the final day for submitting offers. Lionsgate stepped up last month as the first bidder for the rights to the "Terminator" franchise with a "stalking horse" or floor bid of $15 million and a 5% cut of future gross receipts. Halcyon Group put the franchise up for sale in September-. The auction for the "Terminator" assets -- which include the rights to future "Terminator" pics, TV series, DVDs and merchandise -- will be held Monday at the offices of FTI Consulting in Los Angeles, followed by a bankruptcy court hearing two days later. If Lionsgate doesn't win the auction, it will receive $750,000 as a breakup fee from the winning bidder. "Terminator Salvation," the fourth film in the fra

LionsGate Leads The Bid For The Terminator Franchise

Lionsgate Leads The Bid For The Terminator Franchise So what's a stalking horse bid? An initial bid on a bankrupt company's assets from an interested buyer chosen by the bankrupt company. This allows the distressed firm to avoid receiving lowball bids on its assets. That said, I hear Lionsgate will be named the stalking horse bidder in the bankruptcy sale of the Terminator franchise. Sources tell me it wasn't a competitive auction. (Sorry, Joss Whedon, your $10,000 offer for the rights didn't cut it.) When last we left the tug of war over the future of The Terminator franchise, Halcyon Holding Group announced it was contemplating a sale of the rights after filing for Chapter 11 protection last August as a result of a dispute with Pacificor, a Santa Barbara-based hedge fund that lent Halcyon the sum to buy the Terminator rights in the first place. All the big studios, with Sony leading the way as well as Summit Entertainment and Media Rights Capital, were interested in

Terminator Franchise's Judgment Day Coming Soon

Terminator Franchise's Judgment Day Coming Soon When last we left the tug of war over the future of The Terminator franchise, it was out for bid, and at least one potential buyer was Joss Whedon (prepared to ante all of $10,000). Today Halcyon Holding Group, which announced it was contemplating a sale of its rights to Terminator after filing for Chapter 11 protection last August as a result of a dispute with a lender, released the following statement: “When Halcyon announced the bidding process for the Terminator franchise last month, we indicated that in addition to an outright sale of the property, we would also consider other strategic options, including a recapitalization ofthe company. Over the past few weeks Halcyon and its professionals have engaged in in-depth discussions and negotiations with numerous serious potential buyers, including several major movie studios. In addition, a number of attractive refinancing alternatives have also been presented. In order to maximize

Want To Buy The Terminator Franchise?

Want To Buy The Terminator Franchise? If you have a few million dollars laying around you might be in luck. Or have a very wealthy uncle that might be able to give you a few bucks. Go bid. Looks like the franchise is up for Auction now. All the big studios, with Sony leading the way, as well as Summit Entertainment and Media Rights Capital, are interested in bidding when the Terminator franchise is auctioned off this month. This news comes from the Financial Times' Matthew Garrahan who says the rights auction is for new Terminator films, TV programs and other spin-offs (Because we all know The Sarah Connor Chronicles on Fox did so well, right?) that build on the popularity of the franchise. The sale is being conducted by FTI Capital Advisors for Halcyon which bought the Terminator rights 2 years ago for $25M from Mario Kassar. Halcyon recently filed for Chapter 11 after a dispute with Pacificor, a Santa Barbara-based hedge fund that lent Halcyon the sum to buy the Terminator rights

Terminator Franchise Up For Sale?

Terminator Franchise Up For Sale? Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek, who acquired the science-fiction franchise in 2007 for $25 million and produced this year's sequel " Terminator Salvation ," are looking to sell the rights as several companies owned by the two producers work their way through Chapter 11 reorganization. Since "The Terminator" was released in 1984, the franchise rights have changed hands frequently. When the first movie came out, production company Hemdale Films owned a 50% interest and director James Cameron sold the other half to producer Gale Anne Hurd for $1. Carolco Pictures, owned by producers Mario Kassar and Andrew Vajna, bought Hemdale's stake in 1990 for $10 million and released "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" the next year. In 1997, after Carolco filed for bankruptcy, they started a new venture, C2 Pictures, which bought their old company's stake at auction for $8 million and the remaining 50% from Hurd for $7 millio
