Sylvester Stallone Will Deliver A Jack Johnson Biopic

Sylvester Stallone has made a few films about the world of boxing, and was originally inspired to create Rocky by real-life pugilist Chuck Wepner. Now, as he launches his own production company called Balboa Productions, he's targeted another true-life tale as a first project: the story of Jack Johnson . Johnson' s story recently came back into the public eye when Stallone lobbied Donald Trump to give the man who became the first African American heavyweight champion a rare Presidential Pardon. Back in 1909, Jackson defied racist laws that presented black men having relationships with white women, and ended up marrying one. Under the Mann Act, he was sentenced to a year in prison and fled the country with his wife until 1920 when he returned to serve his term. Johnson died in 1946. The campaign to win a pardon for him got traction three years ago via US Senators John McCain and Harry Reid, but Stallone's latest push moved things forward. Stallone has now set a film

Sylvester Stallone Is Returning For Rambo V

Never say never in Hollywood. A mere couple of years after declaiming that he was done with the Rambo franchise (at least in front of the camera), Sylvester Stallone will return to the lead role for Rambo V . Matt Cirulnick wrote the script for this one, which will find John Rambo living as per usual fairly off the grid. This time, he's at a ranch in Arizona, battling PTSD and working casual jobs. But then his long-time friend and estate manager Maria asks for his help when her granddaughter goes missing while partying in Mexico. John, Maria and a journalist whose half-sister is also MIA travel to the country, uncovering a sex trafficking ring and needing the old warrior's skills to take down a crime lord. No director has announced yet – Screen Daily's report says that's on the way, and Millennium is looking to have the film shooting in September across London, Bulgaria and the Canary Islands. The rights, as you might expect, will be a hot property at Cannes thi

Creed 2 Lands It's Director

MGM and Warner Bros. have tapped up-and-coming director Steven Caple Jr. to direct Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone in “ Creed 2 ,” sources tell Variety , with production expected to start in spring 2018. Along with Jordan and Stallone, Tessa Thompson will also return for the sequel, reprising her role as Bianca. Sources also say that Ryan Coogler, who directed “Creed,” is expected to join in an executive producer role, though a deal has not yet closed, as Coogler is currently wrapping up post-production on Marvel’s “Black Panther.” Stallone had considered directing “Creed 2” at one point, but after talking it over with Jordan and the execs, they made the decision to find another director. After a lengthy search, Jordan and Stallone personally picked Caple to take the reins. Caple will direct from an original screenplay written by Stallone and Cheo Hodari Coker (showrunner of “Luke Cage”) based on characters from the Rocky franchise. The film is being produced by Ir

Sylvester Stallone Will Direct Creed 2

Sylvester Stallone has been the big driving force behind a sequel to the excellent Creed (not shocking given the shot in the arm it provided for the Rocky franchise) and has now taken to his usual venue of choice – Instagram – to announce that he'll be stepping up to direct the new film. While Stallone has certainly got enough directorial experience on his CV, the announcement that he'll be pulling multiple roles on the film (he's producing, writing, appearing as Rocky and now directing) does rather have us worried, since the vitality and nuance of the first Creed was largely attributable to co-writer/director Ryan Coogler. Michael B. Jordan is back as Adonis Johnson, son of the late Apollo Creed, but beyond that little has been officially confirmed. Sly has been nodding towards an encounter with the son of Dolph Lundgren's Ivan Drago (the man who killed the elder Creed in the ring), and we'll wait and see how real that is. Movie Review: #GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol2

Family issues RAMA is back Here’s my review of #GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol2 . So how does James Gunn top his 2014 success? By keeping his brand of humor intact. But while #GOTGVol2 is both fun and funny, it’s not quite as spectacular as its predecessor. I understand that one of any sequel’s most used formula to expand the story is by bringing in the characters’ family members, which is not a bad formula, but having too much of it could result in melodramatic and that is what this movie falls victim to. Written and directed by James Gunn, the story continues as this band of misfits traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos annihilating all kinds of creatures, from one planet to the next. Civilizations would acquire their help but of course their inability to resist mischief leads them to pocketing things on the side along the way and this causes tension. Let’s just say that the team is still having problems working together, they’re all just too stubborn and too proud. Until a certain

Looks Like Sylvester Stallone Is Expendable

Depending on how you feel about the movies, news that there is trouble for the future of The Expendables franchise is either blessed relief or a shut to the gut. Deadline reports that Sylvester Stallone has walked away from the in-development fourth film. The cause? Apparently he and producer/Nu Image/Millennium boss Avi Lerner are disagreeing on some key issues, including a director, elements of the script and even where to source the CG effects. While nothing is set in stone, Stallone is apparently worried about diminishing returns from the franchise and despite his close connection with it, he's decided to step away. Yet there is still hope for the future, as Lerner commented to Deadline. "We’ve got disagreements with Sly, but we’ve had them for over a year and a half," he says. "Right now, each one has an opinion. We agreed on 95% of things, but there are certain things in production we don’t agree on. I don’t think it’s over, but write whatever you want

Dave Bautista Joins Sylvester Stallone In Escape Plan 2

THR is reporting Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista will team up with Sylvester Stallone for Escape Plan 2 , the sequel to the 2013 prison-break thriller. Steven C. Miller, who's helmed action thrillers such as Marauders and Extraction, is directing the project, which will now be a China-U.S. co-production via Beijing-based Leomus Pictures and Emmett/Furla/Oasis. Mark Canton is also among the producers. The pairing of Bautista and Stallone is in line with having two high-wattage action stars fight against, then team up with, each other. In the 2013 movie, Stallone, playing a prison-security specialist who finds himself in a near-impenetrable facility, partnered up with his 1980s action rival Arnold Schwarzenegger. Plot details are being kept in solitary confinement. The $20 million production is tunneling for a spring start in Atlanta. Bautista is a former MMA champion who segued into acting, slamming through to star status with a scene-stealing performance as

Sylvester Stallone Confirms Expendables 4 Is Happening

With the news of a developing TV series, it looked as if The Expendables ' cinema career may have ended at part three. Not so, according to Sylvester Stallone , who over the weekend confirmed December's rumors that Expendables 4 was underway. Stallone told his Facebook followers that he's about to start working out for "the next Expendables, [which is] gonna be great, fingers crossed! We're gonna do our best and I think we've got some really great attitude going, some great ideas. I think everyone's expecting something different and we're gonna give it to 'em." The last we officially heard about the film was in October, 2015, when studio Nu Image announced that a fourth instalment had been made possible by Chinese funding. Almost half of Expendables 3's total worldwide box office haul of $200m came from China, with a relatively meagre $40m from the States. "What seems to work in their favour in China, is that these movies are

Rambo Reboot Titled: Rambo: New Blood

THR is reporting One man army John Rambo is poised for a return the big-screen. Nu Image/Millennium Films is plotting a reboot of the classic 1980s action franchise that starred Sylvester Stallone , tapping Brooks McLaren to pen the script and Ariel Vromen to direct the feature. Titled Rambo: New Blood , the new reboot would not see Stallone return as the action hero, like he did in Millennium’s 2008 outting, but would see a younger actor inhabit the role. The company is looking at Rambo as a character akin to James Bond. Rambo was the lead character in a 1972 novel by David Morrell titled First Blood. Hollywood adapted the book into the hit 1982 movie that starred Stallone in a story that despite its action trappings looked at issues facing disaffected Vietnam War vets. (It also veered from the book by having its protagonist live at the end of the story.) When the series returned, with 1985’s Rambo: First Blood Part II , it was tapping into go-go 1980s America, with a scri

Sylvester Stallone To Star In Mario Puzo's Omerta

Decades after he was strongly considering Godfather III , it looks like Sylvester Stallone is finally joining the Mafia in a proposed TV series based on Mario Puzo's last novel, Omerta . Added into the mix is the fact that Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Magnificent Seven) is directing the first episode from a script by Justin Herber and Adam Hoff. Stallone will be portraying Raymonde Aprile, considered to be the last great American don. Produced by The Weinstein Compoany, the intent is to get a network to come on board for a full series commitment. This is a big turn for Stallone, an Academy Award nominee for his portrayal of Rocky Balboa in Ryan Cogler's Creed. Omerta was published in 2000, about a year after Puzo's death. #CreedMovie Sequel Coming In 2017

Variety is reporting MGM is eyeing a November 2017 release date for the sequel to “ Creed ,” That would allow the film to open exactly two years after the first chapter starring Michael B. Jordan hit theaters. The Warner Bros. release has gone on to gross more than $105 million at the domestic box office and land Sylvester Stallone a Golden Globe for best supporting actor. “That’s my goal,” MGM CEO Gary Barber told Variety on Sunday night at the Golden Globes of his release plan, adding that the date hasn’t been set in stone yet. If the movie does come out that soon, it could mean that Ryan Coogler — who is in talks to direct Marvel’s “ Black Panther ” –might not be able to return as director. In a recent cover story with Variety, Stallone alluded to the possibility that Coogler would be an executive producer of the second “Creed” due to scheduling. “I know Ryan is going to be gone for a couple years,” Stallone said. “There’s a diminishing time acceptance of a sequel.” St

Rambo: New Blood Heading To TV

According to The Wrap “ New Blood ” will explore relationship between John Rambo and ex-Navy SEAL son, J.R. The network has closed a script deal for TV franchise “ Rambo: New Blood ,” based on the feature films starring Sylvester Stallone . The man behind the big screen’s John Rambo will executive produce the father-son project. The new series, which pays homage to the original “ Rambo ” films, will explore the complex relationship between Rambo and his son, J.R., an ex-Navy SEAL. Stallone has an option to play his famous titular character in the TV version, though nothing is set in stone yet, TheWrap has learned. “ First Blood ,” which is commonly (yet incorrectly) referred to as “Rambo,” was released in 1982. It followed a Vietnam veteran named John Rambo who used his combat skills against the lawmen of a small town when they arrest and abuse him. “Rambo: First Blood Part II” came out in 1985. Two more sequels followed in 1988 and 2008, respectively. The one-hour drama ha

Movie Review: 'Creed'

Creed re-invigorates the Rocky story as much as it celebrates the rise of another familiar Balboa name. Review by Matt Cummings For all the misses behind the recent slew of boxing genre films, it’s clear that audiences desire its inclusion with comic book and other action films. And while Creed celebrates the return of the beloved Rocky name, it also delivers a fairly powerful human story. Adonis Johnson (Alex Hendersonm) is a troubled orphan whose stay in the LA juvenile detention center is relieved when an unexpected visit from Mary Anne Creed (Phylicia Rashad) reveals that he is the illegitimate son of the late Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). Fast-forward 20 years, and Adonis (Michael B. Jordan) has decided that his plush life and recent promotion aren’t enough, and decides to box illegally in Tijuana. Against the wishes of his mother, Andonis leaves LA for Philadelphia, in the hopes that none other than Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) will agree to train him. Afte
