WB has delivered another great TV spot for MAN OF STEEL with new footage. Keeps looking better and better. The story remains mostly the same (albeit tweaked by Christopher Nolan and David Goyer): Kal-El is sent to Earth and adopted by wholesome, humane farm folk Jonathan ( Kevin Costner ) and Martha ( Diane Lane ) Kent. There, he assumes the identity of Clark Kent and struggles to blend in with humanity while dealing with the fact that he’s a god amongst ants. Then General Zod ( Michael Shannon ) shows up, demanding that Kal-El pledge allegiance to him lest he start destroying this planet that his fellow Kryptonian has come to love and cherish. Oi, Kal-El! Clark Kent! Superbloke! Whatever your name is… A word in your Kryptonian shell-like if we might: flying at incredible speeds with your mouth slightly open is a recipe for disaster. WB’s viral video has gone live for MAN OF STEEL has lead up to this static video message of General Zod ( Michael Shannon ) telling the world to surrender Kal-El and to Kal-El himself to surrender within 24 hours or suffer consequences.. There's already, controversially, not a pair of red pants to be seen, but now we learn there'll also be narry a trace of kryptonite in the film. Earlier this year, J.J. Abrams ’ treatment for Superman Flyby leaked online, providing a peak beneath the blue tights at what the Star Trek director had planned for the last son of Krypton. The movie would have been an origin story involving a civil war on Krypton, the exile of Kal-El and a new villain, Ty-Zor, but sadly it never saw the light of day. One of the biggest gambles of 2013 is the latest attempt to introduce Superman back to our screens. Moody and gritty seem so far to be the watchwords for Zack Snyder and Warner Bros.’ new take on Superman in Man Of Steel . Taken from the teaser, it shows Henry Cavill’s Supes in handcuffs being marched down a hallway by soldiers. Obviously we figure Big Red is letting himself be captured in this way – that, or those manacles are somehow fashioned from Kryptonite. Whatever it is, we’ll find out in due course. It’s an intriguing image, blurry and stylish, though somewhat of an odd choice for a teaser. After becoming a heroic warrior in Immortals and slipping into Superman’s suit for Man Of Steel , it would appear that Henry Cavill is ready to come back to Earth for a bit. He’s now in talks to star in The Great Wall. As announced last August, Love And Other Drugs director Ed Zwick has co-written the script with regular scribbling pal Marshall Herskovitz, and it’ll look at the mystery behind how China’s famous wall was built over years and under different rulers. The original idea for the film was hatched by Legendary Pictures founder Thomas Tull and World War Z novelist Max Brooks, with Tull handing it over to the China-based Legendary East to shove into production. As for Cavill's role in the film, for now that’s anyone’s guess since no plot details have been released. But there’s plenty of history surrounding the structure, which was begun to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire in the 5th century BC. Superman is getting a new mom. Ayelet Zurer , the Israeli actress who starred in Angels & Demons and who played the wife of Avner (Eric Bana) in Munich, has been set to play the role of Lara Lor-Van , Superman’s Kryptonian mother, in Man of Steel . Production is underway on the Warner Bros/Legendary film. That role was originally going to be played by Julia Ormond . I was unable to find out why director Zack Snyder made the last-minute change, but I’ve confirmed that Zurer will start filming this week. Henry Cavill plays Superman, Russell Crowe plays Superman’s Kryptonian father, Jor-El , and Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane and Michael Shannon also star. Zurer will next be seen starring in the Lawrence Kasdan-directed Darling Companion opposite Diane Keaton, Kevin Kline and Dianne Wiest for Sony Pictures Classics. She’s repped by IFA Talent Agency. Remember that first, official photo of Henry Cavill as Superman in the upcoming movie Man of Steel ? While it wasn't clear from that shot whether or not Cavill was wearing the traditional red underpants, some new photos seem to have settled the matter. A series of pictures taken on the set and posted at the Man of Steel Facebook page appear to show quite definitively that Cavill is not wearing the red trunks that have been part of Superman's costume since the very beginning. So now we can guess why that initial photo deliberately kept Kal-El's mid-section in the shadows—director Zack Snyder and the film's producers (which include Christopher Nolan) wanted to keep the full costume a mystery and not necessarily set off alarm bells with Superman purists.
