INDIANA JONES RETURNS TO THEATERS JULY 19, 2019

Indiana Jones will return to the big screen on July 19, 2019, for a fifth epic adventure in the blockbuster series. Steven Spielberg , who directed all four previous films, will helm the as-yet-untitled project with star Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role. Franchise veterans Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce. “Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.” Famed archaeologist and explorer Indiana Jones was introduced in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark – one of AFI’s 100 Greatest American Films of All Time – and later thrilled audiences in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingd

New #THEBFG Poster

From the human beans that brought you E.T and the author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Matilda comes The BFG ! The BFG ( Mark Rylance ), while a giant himself, is a Big Friendly Giant and nothing like the other inhabitants of Giant Country. Standing 24-feet tall with enormous ears and a keen sense of smell, he is endearingly dim-witted and keeps to himself for the most part. Giants like Bloodbottler ( Bill Hader ) and Fleshlumpeater ( Jemaine Clement ) on the other hand, are twice as big and at least twice as scary and have been known to eat humans, while the BFG prefers Snozzcumber and Frobscottle. Upon her arrival in Giant Country, Sophie, a precocious 10-year-old girl from London, is initially frightened of the mysterious giant who has brought her to his cave, but soon comes to realize that the BFG is actually quite gentle and charming, and, having never met a giant before, has many questions. The BFG brings Sophie to Dream Country where he collects dreams and sends th

Movie Review: 'Bridge of Spies'

Bridge of Spies adds quick wit and excellent performances to the melancholy age of The Cold War. Review by Matt Cummings In Steven Spielberg's feel-good Bridge of Spies , the American insurance lawyer Donovan (Tom Hanks) must negotiate to secure the release of spy pilot Francis Gary Powers (Austin Stowell) during the turbulent era of the early 1960's. But in order to do so, Donovan must deliver the Russian spy Abel (Mark Rylance), whom Donovan has recently defended in a lopsided trial. As the Russians complete the barrier between East and West, Donovan faces nearly insurmountable odds and a dwindling timetable to deliver Abel and get his people back into home soil. This fourth collaboration between the two Hollywood heavyweights yields fine results, adding another must-see to the growing list of recent and excellent spy films. It lands softly somewhere between Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and James Bond: totally accessible, but missing most of the real negoti

Steven Spielberg Will Be On The Cutting Floor In Ready Player One

With Ready Player One , Steven Spielberg plans to leave himself on the cutting room floor. The book by Ernest Cline is a thriller about a kid on a high-stakes treasure hunt through a virtual reality world created in a society that obsesses about ’80s pop culture – so Spielberg was all over the story even before he signed on to direct the film version. But with one exception. “The movie won’t have any of my films in it,” the director tells EW in a wide-ranging interview. “I’m not putting myself in this movie.” The film will still include an odyssey through Gen X nostalgia, but for now he intends to cut the book’s references to the Indiana Jones movies, and works he produced, like Back to the Future and Goonies . “They reference so many ’80s movies. I’m doing the whole pop culture thing. I’m just going to leave myself out of it,” he says, shaking his head. “I can’t do that. Too self-referential.” What hooked him on the story was Cline’s presentation of a world where everyo

Movie Review: Poltergeist

Lazily recycled ideas? They're heeeere. Review by Brandon Wolfe Though others preceded it ( The Haunting, The Amityville Horror ), 1982’s Poltergeist is often held as the quintessential haunted house movie. The Steven Spielberg-produced, Tobe Hooper-directed (though, by many accounts, also Spielberg-directed) film about a traditional nuclear family moving into a house of horrors set the stage for every spook-house film that came after. Though, while there is still much to appreciate about Poltergeist , the film’s ability to get under the skin arguably hasn’t endured. There are isolated moments that remain chilling, but that Spielbergian, suburban-set sense of mouth-agape wonderment has the effect of working against the film’s creep factor, creating an aura of comforting safety that prevents the film from becoming true nightmare fuel. Poltergeist feels more of a piece with E.T. than it does with The Exorcist . Watched in the wake of a truly terrifying haunted-house thriller l

Indiana Jones Will Return

The rumors about a fifth Indiana Jones movie have been in the air for a good few years now, but in a recent interview with Vanity Fair , Star Wars and Lucasfilm president and all-round super-producer Kathleen Kennedy has officially confirmed that yes, Indy will be back, although in what form and when remains to be seen. "[An Indiana Jones film] will one day be made inside this company," said Kennedy. "When it will happen, I’m not quite sure. We haven’t started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it." There was some very loud chatter about Chris Pratt picking up the whip, but that remains unconfirmed, and with his roles in on-going franchises Guardians Of The Galaxy and Jurassic World being so similar to everyone's favourite fortune hunter, this might put pay to that idea - or make it an easier decision for Lucasfilm to make, should Pratt want the gig. There's also been some talk about Steven Spielberg coming back to direct, and some t
