Molly Ringwald Cast In Jem & The Holograms

Jon M. Chu is directing the film adaptation based on the popular '80s animated show. Fans of '80s pop culture, rejoice. Molly Ringwald has been cast in the adaptation of popular 1980s cartoon Jem and the Holograms. Directed by Jon M. Chu from a screenplay by Ryan Landels, the film will star Nashville actress Aubrey Peeples as Jem while Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau and Hayley Kiyoko will play the Holograms, as THR exclusively reported. The film, based on the animated TV series that ran from 1985 to 1988, follows Jerrica Benton and her alter ego, Jem, who fronts the band the Holograms. It's being described as a modern take on the mysterious pop star, and will follow the band through Los Angeles on a music-driven adventure. Ryan Guzman will play Jem's love interest Rio, and Juliette Lewis also has a role in the film. JEM & The Holograms Movie Has Been Cast

JEM is her name, no one else is the same. In her first major film role, Nashville actress Aubrey Peeples has been cast as the lead, Jem, in the live-action Jem and the Holograms film, which is being directed by Jon M. Chu . The Holograms have also been cast: Stefanie Scott , who starred on Disney's A.N.T. Farm, will play Jem's sister, Kimber ; Pretty Little Liars actress Aurora Perrineau will play Shana ; and The Fosters' Hayley Kiyoko has been cast as Aja. Based on the 1980s Hasbro toy line that was also a beloved cartoon, the film will be produced by Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions, Scooter Braun Productions and Chu. The film has been moving along quite quickly, and is already shooting. The cartoon ran from 1985 to 1988 and chronicled the adventures of Jerrica Benton and her alter ego, Jem, a singer who fronted a band called The Holograms.
