Bryan Cranston Rumored For New Star Trek Villain

Kirk may soon face the Wrath of Walt. By Brandon Wolfe The website Film Divider claims that no less than Breaking Bad ’s Bryan Cranston may be in talks to portray the as-yet-unnamed villain in the upcoming third Star Trek film. The role, said to be (fortuitously enough) “Bryan Cranston-like,” has reportedly led to discussions between the exceedingly Bryan Cranston-like actor and the studio. The site also states that the film will include a bevy of new female characters, including the ex-wife of Karl Urban’s Bones, a female starship captain and the President of the United Federation of Planets, that last one being a first for the franchise. Nothing is confirmed as of yet, but with production still scheduled to begin in April for a 2016 release, expect to hear more soon. Discuss this story with fellow SJF fans on Facebook . Simon Pegg Co-Writing Star Trek 3

Trek Sequel Beams Up New Writer In the bid to get the next Star Trek sequel out in time for the franchise’s 50th anniversary in 2016 after Robert Orci’s demotion from the project, Paramount has enlisted Simon Pegg, Scotty himself, to co-write a draft at warp speed so that production can proceed at full impulse power. According to a report from Deadline , Pegg will be working with Doug Jung, who created the TNT series Dark Blue and has worked with Bad Robot Productions previously on a film titled Diamond . The storyline has not yet been revealed, but Fast and Furious director Justin Lin recently took over for Orci in the big chair. Pegg is an exciting choice to liven up Star Trek , having previously co-written the Edgar Wright-directed Cornetto Trilogy ( Shaun of the Dead , Hot Fuzz and The World’s End ) with Nick Frost. He also wrote Run Fatboy Run , but let’s not focus on that right now. Discuss this story with fellow SJF fans on Facebook . On Twitter, follow us at @San

Zoe Saldana To Star In NBC’s Rosemary’s Baby Miniseries

Avatar and Star Trek star Zoe Saldana has been tapped as the lead in NBC’s four-hour miniseries Rosemary’s Baby , an adaptation of the 1967 best-selling suspense novel by Ira Levin. The mini centers on Rosemary ( Saldana ), a young wife and would-be mother who, with her husband, moves into a Paris apartment that has a darkly storied past. After finally getting pregnant, she becomes increasingly suspicious that both her husband and their mysterious neighbors have ulterior motives about the future of her child. The role was played by Mia Farrow in Roman Polanski’s 1968 feature adaptation. “Zoe has proven that she is one of our most gifted actresses, and we think she has the perfect combination of spirit and gravitas to take on the title role from Ira Levin’s infamous novel,” said NBC’s head of longform Quinn Taylor. “With Zoe leading the cast under the direction of Agnieszka Holland, this reimagined event miniseries is off to a great start.” Holland is directing the mini from a sc

Here's Why Science Fiction Will Always Be Better Than Sci-Fi.

Here's why Science Fiction will always be better than Sci-Fi. By: MattInRC On my way to the press screening for Star Trek: Into Darkness , my friend and I grabbed some dinner and conversation. I usually try to find something outrageous to tell him, mostly because I want him to like me. Anyways, I was explaining to him why The Original Trek (Kirk, Spock, Bones) was the perfect mix of action and story - and why The Next Generatio n and its offspring were so boring - when I dropped my latest bomb: there is a difference between Science Fiction and Sci-Fi . On the surface, it seemed like yet another ridiculous opinion, but in reality the opinion was not even my own. I explained that I was introduced many years ago to the differences in an article from the film and book magazine Starlog. Before the Internet, Starlog served as nothing less than the central portal for all things fantasy and Science Fiction; it was here that my love and appreciation for Science Fiction and its va

What J.J. Abrams Superman Flyby Could Have Been

Earlier this year, J.J. Abrams ’ treatment for Superman Flyby leaked online, providing a peak beneath the blue tights at what the Star Trek director had planned for the last son of Krypton. The movie would have been an origin story involving a civil war on Krypton, the exile of Kal-El and a new villain, Ty-Zor, but sadly it never saw the light of day. According to Abrams, though, it wouldn't have been a million miles from what Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel is shaping up to be. “The thing that I tried to emphasise in the story was that if the Kents found this boy, Kal-El, who had the power that he did, he would have most likely killed them both in short order,” Abrams told Empire. “And the idea that these parents would see – if they were lucky to survive long enough – that they had to immediately begin teaching this kid to limit himself and to not be so fast, not be so strong, not be so powerful. “The result of that, psychologically, would be fear of oneself, self-doubt and b

JJ Abrams Talks Episode VII.

Mention the name JJ Abrams and there’s one question that immediately barges all others aside: what’s the plan for Episode VII ? While he was able to approach Star Trek with a detached objectivity, how will he, as a huge Star Wars fan approach Star Wars' bold new era? Empire put that question to the man himself when we recently sat down with him at his Bad Robot offices in LA. “I don’t know because we’re just getting started. So it’s a great question that I hope I’ll have a good answer to when I know what the answer is. There are infinitely more questions than answers right now, but to me, they’re not that dissimilar. Though I came at these both from very different places, where they both meet is a place of ‘Ooh, that’s really exciting.’ And even though I was never a Star Trek fan, I felt like there was a version of it that would make me excited, that I would think ‘that’s cool, that feels right, I actually would want to see that. “How we were going to get there, what the choi

Karl Urban Goes Into "Overdrive"

Karl Urban and Ben Barnes have been cast as car-thief brothers in the France-set actioner Overdrive . Antonio Negret (Seconds Apart) is directing the project, which was written by Wanted and 2 Fast 2 Furious scribes Derek Haas and Michael Brandt. Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke is in negotiations for the female lead. Pierre Morel, whose kidnapping thriller Taken was a surprise success in 2008, is producing along with Haas and Brandt. Filming begins October 29 in Marseilles. Urban , who plays Bones in the revamped Star Trek franchise, and Barnes, who plays Prince Caspian in the Chronicles of Narnia series, will play adventurous siblings who find more trouble than they are looking for in the South of France. The movie sprang from a trip Haas and Brandt took overseas in November 2008, when they were invited by the French government to tour the country for ten days as

Star Trek Screenwriters Talk About The Sequel

Sequel To Follow The lines Of “The Empire Strikes Back The 2009 reboot of “ Star Trek ” was a shining moment for fans of sci-fi and spectacle films and the sequel, due in 2012, may well follow the box-office trajectory of the Christopher Nolan Gotham City films — “Batman Begins” earned the credibility with fans old and new and then “The Dark Knight” delivered the billion-dollar payoff. “ Star Trek ” writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci , the tandem that also penned “ Transformers ” and next summer’s “ Cowboys & Aliens ” and also created the Fox sci-fi series “ Fringe ,” are back to script the sequel. The LATimes caught up with the screenwriters, who talked about the challenges ahead and also shared a playful aspiration — an on-screen showdown between Captain Kirk and Darth Vader . LT: It’s early days on the “Star Trek” sequel, but is there anything you can tell us about the story direction, tone or even the types of challenges you’re anticipating with this next-step projec

The project is slated for late-summer start with Olivier Megaton ("Transporter 3") directing. This will be her first lead role in a film, we all have seen her work in Avatar, Star Trek and The Losers and we know that she can carry a film as well as a gun. This is going to be her biggest role ever. Written by Besson and Robert Mark Kamen ( the guys behind the film Taken ), "Colombiana" is set in Latin America and the U.S. Saldana would play a young woman who, after witnessing her parents' murder as a child in Bogota, grows up to be a stone-cold assassin. Star Trek's Zachary Quinto Clears The Air About Star Trek 2

Star Trek's Zachary Quinto Clears The Air About Star Trek 2 Star Trek's Zachary Quinto is clarifying remarks he made to Wired that he was taking a break from the franchise for two years. Here's what he said: "I'm stepping away from Star Trek for at least two years—no movies, no conventions, no anything for a while," Quinto told Wired.com in a telephone interview. His planned absence from geekdom was a major motivation for doing the new game. "I did this game to make an investment in the fan base," the actor said. But on his Twitter feed Thursday, Quinto elaborated on what he meant: to clarify: i've been inundated w/questions/confusion about a comment i made during an interview w/ @wired re: atari star trek online game in which i said i'm stepping away from trek for next 2 yrs. obviously, i'll be a part of any upcoming films, reprising my role as spock. what i meant was that in the meantime i won't be making appearances related

Most Pirated Films Of 2009

Most Pirated Films Of 2009 Paramount's worst fears are confirmed: "Star Trek" was the most pirated film of 2009. In October, studio COO Frederick Huntsberry delivered a presentation to the FCC that detailed how "Star Trek" had become a hot commodity in piracy circles. Illegal file-sharing had advanced from "geek to sleek," he said. Now, according to data from TorrentFreak, "Star Trek" was downloaded nearly 11 million times this past year, just edging "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" in total downloads. Interestingly, for all the fuss about the "Wolverine" leak, the film barely makes the top 10. Meanwhile, Guy Ritchie's "RocknRolla" was the third most pirated film this year. The film was distributed in the U.S. by Warner Bros. and grossed less than $26 million in worldwide box office. We wonder whether its availability online hurt boxoffice—or whether Warners might have promoted the theatrical release mor

Chris Pine To Star Ben Afflecks "Blade Itself"

Chris Pine To Star Ben Afflecks "Blade Itself" I had no reservations with Chris Pine playing Captain Kirk. I really enjoyed his role as Darwin Tremor in Smokin' Aces . And you know he will be tied to the Star Trek Franchise for a long while. I feel that he is a versatile enough actor to take on a more serious role in a film. I am curious to see what he can do with this movie. In late 2007, soon after the critical success of Ben Affleck’s directorial debut, Gone Baby Gone, it was announced that Affleck, along with his writing and producing partner on Gone, Sean Bailey, had adapted the rights to Marcus Sakey’s crime novel, The Blade Itself. The novel is about two childhood friends — boys who grew up committing petty crimes with one another — who are reunited and discover how different they have become as adults. One of the men will have to make a tough decision if he wants to protect the secrets of his past. The novel was set in Chicago, though with Affleck and Bailey invol

First Look At The Klingons From Star Trek

First look At The Klingons From Star Trek Our first look at the The Klingons From J.J. Abrams Star Trek. Is this what is to come in the next film? I really hope so. They are very different looking with the helmets on, not what we are uses to seeing in the other films and shows, but different is a good thing. They didn't make their way into J.J. Abrams Star Trek reboot movie, but they will make an appearance on the DVD extras. And possibly the next film. And here is the footage from Spike TV's Scream Awards Exclusive Preview- The DVD will be released on November 17, 2009 Related News- Star Trek Blu-Ray and DVD Release Soon Please Leave A Comment-

Does Chris Pine Know "The Art Of Making Money"

Does Chris Pine Know "The Art Of Making Money" Chris Pine did a great job playing a young Cpt James T Kirk in J.J. Abrams‘ prequel Star Trek, he also did a great job playing Darwin Tremor in Smokin' Aces . We know that he will be attached to Play the Kirk role for awhile, which isn't a bad deal. But it looks like he is trying to branch out to other movies. Paramount Pictures is in negotiations with Chris Pine and director D.J. Caruso to put fact-based drama "The Art of Making Money" on a fast track to begin production early next year. If the deals are made, Pine will play Art Williams, the alias for a Chicago man who rose from petty theft to become a master counterfeiter. Caruso most recently directed the Shia LaBeouf

J.J. Abrams Talks Star Trek 2 and Mission Impossible 4

J.J. Abrams Talks Star Trek 2 and Mission Impossible 4 In the meantime here’s an exclusive online Q&A with director JJ Abrams, in which he explains just what made him want to explore the depths of the Vulcan psyche and why he left our cover star’s famous bowl-cut well alone. I feel that now we have a story that shows these characters in very relatable ways, sometimes more amusing than others, but you see who they are and where they come from. I think if the movie accomplishes anything, it’s that you meet this group of characters that you like, and you see them essentially come together as a family. While I certainly enjoy watching the original actors in their roles, you’re never given that window onto their formative years - how they formed that partnership and that community on the bridge and on the ship. It was really important that the characters be believable and relevant and not just caricatures in a sci-fi world and certainly not impersonations of the earlier actors. I think
