It's finally here. The first teaser trailer for  STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS . We also include the Japanese version of the trailer which contains more footage. In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes “Star Trek Into Darkness.” When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. Star Trek Into Darkness Teaser Poster

We think that's Benedict Cumberbatch in the shiny jacket with the dark hair, overlooking a devastated city through a hole echoing the Starfleet logo. Poster fans among you will instantly see echoes of The Dark Knight Rises teaser poster, but there are worse models to take. Judging by a few familiar buildings on this skyline, that's 23rd century London that's been devastated by... something or someone. If you look closely you'll see the Gherkin and what looks like the London Eye, as well as Lloyds, the Shard and Tower 42. Given that G.I. Joe 2 already promises to devastate the capital next year, it looks like 2013 is a bad year to be a Londoner. On the bright side, British architects can feel pretty smug that Hollywood expects their buildings to last another 400 years. The poster follows on the heels (nacelles?) of the recently released synopsis, which – skip ahead if you’re in any way worried about spoilers, though it’s pretty basic – reads thusly: “When the crew

Star Trek Sequel Gets A Name

Throw away your " Untitled Star Trek Sequel ." Forget all about " Star Trek 2 ." None of these stand-in titles for J.J. Abrams' follow-up to his 2009 reboot matter anymore because we may finally have an official one, " Star Trek Into Darkness ." The title saga goes all the way back to January when the sequel began production in an official capacity. While many assumed the usual "2" treatment, that would prove problematic for the "Star Trek" franchise, since there is already a "II," and it's the best one. Then at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Damon Lindelof explained that a title was harder to crack than they originally thought, considering that a "2" was out of the question and because of the creative team's dislike for "colon" titles. (Sorry to all those hoping and praying for "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Cumberbatch.") "There's no word that comes after the colon

J.J. Abrams Beams Into Star Trek 2

Attention impatient sequelphiles: Vulture can confirm that J.J. Abrams has finally committed to shooting Star Trek 2. Insiders familiar with the director's plans tell Vulture that pre-production is underway, that the script will be done by month's end and that Abrams will start shooting this winter. While many assumed he would make the follow-up to his 2009 hit, he would never give a date for the project, or actually say for sure that he would be the one directing. In July, reports elsewhere surfaced that Abrams was “moving towards a commitment” to direct the sequel (which, of course, is Internet for “hasn’t committed yet”) but his delay had pushed a nervous Paramount Pictures to give Trek 2's late June 2012 release date to a G.I. Joe sequel. Part of the hold-up has been that Alex Kurtzman, who wrote Abrams' first Trek with Roberto “Bob” Orci, has been busy editing and posting Welcome to People, his directing debut at DreamWorks Pictures. We’re told that now that

Lost's Damon Lindelof Getting Paid!

In its latest attempt to hatch a large-scale film that can play to a family audience, Disney has made a seven-figure deal with screenwriter and Lost exec producer Damon Lindelof to write and produce an original large-scale science fiction feature film. Other than the fact that the project has a working title of 1952 , I couldn't pry plot details out of anybody. I'm not sure if the title connotes a period the film is set in, or if it is a Lost reference. I've also heard that this project isn't just being conceived for movies only, but that it has multiple platform aspirations. The project came out of a series of meetings that Lindelof had with Disney's production president Sean Bailey and senior exec Brigham Taylor, and it's the first film that Lindelof is producing from the ground up. Since ending the run of Lost and serving as one of the show's architects all the way through, Lindelof has been on fire as a screenwriter. He teamed with Alex Kurtzman an

Star Trek Sequel To Be Compared To The Dark Knight

Star Trek Sequel To Be Compared To The Dark Knight Star Trek Dos, aka, Star Trek 2 , isn't set to hit theaters until 2012. But E! News caught up with producer Damon Lindelof (you know, cocreator of a little show called Lost) at a pre-Emmys party, and he spilled some insights into what's driving the filmmakers as they work on the sequel. Watch the interview after the Jump.. "We're looking at a movie like The Dark Knight, which went one step beyond Batman Begins," Lindelof said. "It was really about something, and at the same time it was a superhero movie. We don't want to abandon all the things that made the first movie work...but we also really want the movie to thematically resonate." Please Leave A Comment- Source- Eonline

Star Trek's Zachary Quinto Clears The Air About Star Trek 2

Star Trek's Zachary Quinto Clears The Air About Star Trek 2 Star Trek's Zachary Quinto is clarifying remarks he made to Wired that he was taking a break from the franchise for two years. Here's what he said: "I'm stepping away from Star Trek for at least two years—no movies, no conventions, no anything for a while," Quinto told Wired.com in a telephone interview. His planned absence from geekdom was a major motivation for doing the new game. "I did this game to make an investment in the fan base," the actor said. But on his Twitter feed Thursday, Quinto elaborated on what he meant: to clarify: i've been inundated w/questions/confusion about a comment i made during an interview w/ @wired re: atari star trek online game in which i said i'm stepping away from trek for next 2 yrs. obviously, i'll be a part of any upcoming films, reprising my role as spock. what i meant was that in the meantime i won't be making appearances related

Star Trek Writers Talk Sequel and Star Wars

Star Trek Writers Talk Sequel and Star Wars STAR TREK writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have given a few more clues about their ideas for the sequel. They talk about the massive pressure to build on the success of the first film and reveal it will have a villain as its main focus. In a Q&A session in Beverly Hills, the duo mention the classic adversary Khan, previously played by the late Ricardo Montalbán. The character first appeared in the 1967 TV episode Space Seed and returned in the 1982 movie Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. On the setting for the story, Orci explained: "We would never do a remake....it will be some time in the five-year mission. But that is a question. Should we pick them up immediately the next day or should it be later, we are still discussing that." And Kurtzman says the villain will be hugely significant in the follow-up: "I think our idea on this is that the first of any series is about them coming together or the formation. I could

J.J. Abrams Talks Star Trek 2 And Mission Impossible 4

J.J. Abrams Talks Star Trek 2 And Mission Impossible 4 I really enjoyed J.J Abrams job on the New Star Trek movie and hope that he does come back to do the second film. I am most curious about the on going of Mission Impossible 4. While it's widely assumed that J.J. Abrams will be directing the next "Star Trek" film, that's not necessarily the case. Abrams is one of the busiest people in Hollywood, yet he always takes time to graciously talk to press. Tonight, we asked him about Star Trek and a few other projects he's involved in at the DVD/Blu-ray release party. Q: What's the status on "Mission: Impossible IV"? J.J. Abrams: We are working on the script and we have an incredibly cool story. It's literally being written right this second. Q: What are the elements that would have to line up to make you direct the next "Star Trek" film? Abrams: The truth is, the idea of anyone else directing the next "Star Trek" film breaks my he

J.J. Abrams Talks Star Trek 2 and Mission Impossible 4

J.J. Abrams Talks Star Trek 2 and Mission Impossible 4 In the meantime here’s an exclusive online Q&A with director JJ Abrams, in which he explains just what made him want to explore the depths of the Vulcan psyche and why he left our cover star’s famous bowl-cut well alone. I feel that now we have a story that shows these characters in very relatable ways, sometimes more amusing than others, but you see who they are and where they come from. I think if the movie accomplishes anything, it’s that you meet this group of characters that you like, and you see them essentially come together as a family. While I certainly enjoy watching the original actors in their roles, you’re never given that window onto their formative years - how they formed that partnership and that community on the bridge and on the ship. It was really important that the characters be believable and relevant and not just caricatures in a sci-fi world and certainly not impersonations of the earlier actors. I think

J.J Abrams Talks Star Trek 2 and Mission Impossible 4

J.J Abrams Talks Star Trek 2 and Mission Impossible 4 I was not a Star Trek Fan by any means, But when I went to the theaters and saw The movie. My mouth dropped, at how great the movie was and from then on I became a fan. I still feel that Star Trek is the Best movie of the summer. And with the news of Mission: Impossible 4. Tom Cruise and Abrams teaming up again. Forget About It. Any momentum on Mission: Impossible IV? Abrams: Yeah, we have a really cool story. It's being written right now by Andre Nemec and Josh Applebaum. What's your ETA on when you'll see the draft? Abrams: We're hoping to get it soon, like by the end of the year. Could it work out for you to direct it? Abrams: I'm open to anything . What about that secret romantic movie Morning Glory? Abrams: Morning Glory is being edited right now. It comes out next year. Does it have a release date? Abrams: Not yet. Where are you in talks for Star Trek 2? Abrams: We're hopefully going to have everyone,
