Movie Review: #StarTrekBeyond

Star Trek Beyond deftly warps us to the final frontier. Review by Matt Cummings Just over one year ago, the Star Trek film franchise was in big trouble. Having endured deserved criticism for 2013's Star Trek Into Darkness , fans learned that significant changes were happening behind the camera, as Robert Orci was unceremoniously dropped from the upcoming sequel. Fans worried that the 50th Anniversary of the franchise could be marred in mediocrity (see James Bond's SPECTRE ), as word soon arrived that Paramount desired to make something "less Star Trek-y." Fortunately, Star Trek Beyond should alleviate most people's worries, as it deftly packages many classic Trek themes into an agreeable space adventure. Three-plus years into their five-year mission, the crew of the USS Enterprise boldly explores the final frontier, while their Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) secretly harbors personal doubt. His approaching birthday will see him live longer th

Will Russell Crowe Join The Mummy

With Tom Cruise in the lead, you might think that the new take on The Mummy would have the star power it needs. Apparently not! According to Deadline, Russell Crowe is in talks to join the film. With Alex Kurtzman already at work directing what he and Universal are aiming as the start of the new shared monster movie universe, the film finds Cruise as Tyler Colt, a special forces soldier in the present day confronted with the emergence of a powerful, ancient force (Kingsman's Sofia Boutella is playing the title character). Crowe, assuming he signs on, will play a Dr. Jekyll-type personality (or dual personality, given the character's history) and while Deadline's report says that he's currently only lining up a deal to work on this film, you've got to figure that it'll be a set up for future appearances. Jon Spaihts wrote the script for the latest iteration of the Mummy movies, and Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson and Courtney B. Vance are all in the c

#ChrisPine & Zachary Quinto Signed On For Star Trek 4

The third installment of the rebooted Star Trek franchise boldly heads into production this week in Vancouver, and its cast is getting a big pay raise. At the same time, the studio behind Star Trek Beyond quietly has locked up two key players for a potential fourth installment. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Paramount and producer-financier Skydance Entertainment recently completed last-minute renegotiations with the Star Trek stars, a move that has added as much as $10 million to $15 million to the budget. The project’s slow development process may have been partly to blame, as well as the rising star power of the actors, especially Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana . When the original cast — Pine, Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin and John Cho — signed on for the movie that re-launched the franchise in 2009, they did so with options for two sequels. Despite the fact that studios often will give stars big new deals in case of success, no re-ne

#SofiaBoutella Tapped For Lead Role In Star Trek 3

After a sharp turn as the sexy blade-legged assassin in the Matthew Vaughn -directed hit Kingsman: The Secret Service , Sofia Boutella has been set for a lead role in Star Trek 3 . Which Justin Lin is directing from a script by cast member Simon Pegg and Doug Jung (creator of the TNT series Dark Blue). Prying loose info on this project is difficult, so I’m not sure whether she’s on the side of good or bad, but I’m told she’s got a lead role in the Paramount/Skydance film produced by Bad Robot that’s based on the Gene Roddenberry series. Paramount has dated the pic’s release for July 8, 2016. Please Leave A Comment-
