Hugh Jackman might be enjoying a break between projects – sort of, since he’s been on the promotional trail for his latest film, kidnap drama Prisoners – but he has plenty of movies lined up and has just added another to the list. Speaking at a press conference at the Zurich Film Festival, he announced he’s taken a role in Neill Blomkamp’s robo-action-comedy Chappie . “I am doing a role in Neill’s new film, called Chappie , which we shoot in Johannesburg,” Jackman said, as reported by Screen International. “I’m there for a couple of weeks at the beginning of next year.” Sharlto Copley will be voicing the titular droid, an advanced machine stolen by two gangsters (rappers Ninja and Yolandi Visser) who look to use the robot for their own criminal ends. Eugene Khumbanyiwa and Elysium’s Jose Pablo Cantillo are also aboard the film, which Blomkamp wrote with Terri Tatchell. There's no word on Jackman's precise role yet, but look out for that soon. His newest release, the distopian Elysium, isn't as provocative or as meaningful, but it does strengthen his resume as an up-and-coming director in an intriguing batch of rising stars. Elysium is set in the year 2159, and pits the oppressed people of the ruined planet Earth against the privileged elite aboard the Elysium space station. Matt Damon is ex-convict man-on-a-mission Max, fighting with the Terrans for equality, and Jodie Foster is the dastardly government official intent on enforcing anti-immigration laws and keeping Elysium for the Elysians; Kruger is her relentless attack dog. Reports over the summer seemed to suggest that Copley, who of course starred for Blomkamp in District 9, had one eye on Heath Ledger's Joker for the role of the black-ops military nutbag, but Copley tells Empire this was a misunderstanding. Juno Temple will play one of the three pixies taking care of Aurora in the live-action Disney fantasy film that re-imagines the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale. Angelina Jolie is playing the title character in the fantasy that tells the story from the point of view of the fairy-witch who cursed Aurora to a permanent sleep on her 16th birthday.
