Deadline is reporting Brie Larson is in talks to play the female lead in Legendary Pictures’ Kong: Skull Island . She will join Tom Hiddleston , who was set some time ago. Legendary is actively setting the two other male leads after the exit of both Michael Keaton and JK Simmons . One actor they are courting hard for one of those roles is Russell Crowe , but it won’t be clear whether or not that happens until the next script draft comes in. Legendary has Jordan Vogt-Roberts directing a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein, and they are eyeing a production start of late year or early 2016. The film will be released by Universal Pictures on March 10, 2017, with a Imax 3D a big part of the release plan. After a heated bidding war, Sony is in talks to acquire a pitch set in the world of “ Robin Hood .” Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott brought the pitch to Sony and sources say it sold in the low seven-figure range. Sony had no comment. Plot details are vague other than that it’s a re-imagining of the classic “ Robin Hood ” tale. Insiders say Working Title and Paramount had also circled the project but it was Sony and president of production Michael De Luca who ultimately landed it. Universal Pictures was the last studio to take on the property with Ridley Scott directing and Russell Crowe starring. Mister Smith Entertainment is handling sales of the project at AFM. Olga Kurylenko (Oblivion) has been cast opposite Oscar winner Russell Crowe in the actor's upcoming directorial debut, The Water Diviner . Crowe's debut is billed as an epic adventure set soon after the end of World War I when an Australian father arrives in Turkey in search of his three sons, supposedly lost in the battle of Gallipoli. Hopscotch Features and Fear of God Films announced Kurylenko's addition to the cast. RatPac Entertainment, having recently concluded its slate funding arrangement with Warner Bros. (in partnership with Dune Entertainment) is making its first move in independent production funding with The Water Diviner and RatPac founders James Packer and Brett Ratner will serve as exec producers on the film. Amanda Seyfried has been cast as Russell Crowe ’s daughter in the drama Fathers and Daughters . Gabriele Muccino is directing the project centered on a woman dealing with a crumbling relationship in the present and looking back on the relationship she had with her father, a famous novelist, 25 years earlier. Crowe’s deal to play the father closed earlier this week. Voltage Pictures’ Nicolas Chartier and Craig J. Flores are producing. Sherryl Clark is also producing.
