The Dark Tower Coming To HBO

Though the situation looked bleak for Ron Howard, Akiva Goldsman and Brian Grazer’s ambitious plan to bring Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series to life as a set of films and TV shows when Universal shut down development, the three main players have not lost faith in their attempt to get the project on its feet. And now, talking to MTV , Grazer has explained that the priority will be the TV section, with US cable channel HBO stepping in to pick up the slack. "We're going to do The Dark Tower with HBO," Grazer says. "We'll do the TV with HBO, and we'll do the movie with… to be determined. We'll do it right." Just a couple of days ago, Grazer had dropped mention to The Playlist that they’d managed to slice a chunk of the budget off, which means we’ll get to see the film – or films – eventually. And he confirms the new, thriftier cost to MTV: "We're going to do that movie. We've lost $45 million out of the budget. When people say no

Cowboy & Aliens Movie Review By: CubicleMike

Cowboy & Aliens Movie Review By: CubicleMike I want to welcome CubicleMike to the mix over here at SandwichJohnFilms. The Cube will be doing reviews from time to time for the site.  Here's his first review for the site and let me tell you there are SPOILERS ! You have been Warned! The title holds so much promise; “ Cowboys and Aliens ”. Who in their right mind, if you are male, didn’t play Cowboys and Indians when they were a kid or imagined stopping an invading hoard of aliens? Let me start by saying the main character (Jake Lonergan) in this film was supposed to be played by Robert Downey Jr .; but he had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts, I guess we will never know what may have been. The film starts out panning across what seems like the Arizona or New Mexico wilderness where our hero has been dumped or fell to exhaustion. Amnesiac Daniel Craig (Jake Lonergan) wakes up with no shoes, blood on his shirt with no food, water or even a horse. I think Daniel Cr

Ron Howard To Direct Spy vs. Spy Film

Remember Spy vs. Spy , the running comic strip of one-ups-manship between rival spooks from Mad Magazine? A live-action bigscreen version is moving forward at Warner Bros for Ron Howard to direct. David Koepp will produce with Howard and his Imagine Entertainment partner Brian Grazer. Right now, Koepp will oversee a script that will be written by John Kamps. Kamps just teamed with Koepp to write Premium Rush, the Sony Pictures movie directed by Koepp, who also just rewrote the Jack Ryan film for Paramount Pictures. The film will be a physical and highly visual action comedy with two spies going mano a mano in ruthless fashion. Spy Vs. Spy will be down the line for Howard, who always has a busy dance card. As Howard and Grazer and Akiva Goldsman prepare to turn in the rewrite of The Dark Tower over the next couple of weeks to see if Universal Pictures will fund the ambitious adaptation of the Stephen King novel series planned to span three films and two TV series runs, Howard has

Who Is The Man In The Shadow From Cowboys & Aliens?

Who Is The Man In The Shadow From Cowboys & Aliens? Director Jon Favreau who’s about to film the adaptation Cowboys & Aliens, recently tweeted this image, which didn’t show much. Part of camera tests, showing a sihouette of some dude standing, with a very bright backlight, he’s obviously in costume but no one knows who that was. Jon talked to Collider at a recent screening of Empire Strikes Back that in deed it was film star Daniel Craig. Favreau: I know, if you look at him, we just did our camera tests. That’s him. On the Twitter pic? That’s him. We couldn’t really show too much because he didn’t want to reveal any images on Twitter but I wanted to kind of get a sense of the feel of it. He’s also somebody who plays an iconic figure that has a long tradition. So to have him playing a cowboy, I feel very good now having shot him and worked with him and hearing his thoughts. And the whole cast is great. With each person we add, the enthusiasm grows, with Rockwell and

Sam Rockwell Joins Cast Of "Cowboys and Aliens"

Sam Rockwell Joins Cast Of  "Cowboys and Aliens" Sam Rockwell is reteaming with Jon Favreau for another comic book adaptation, DreamWorks' "Cowboys and Aliens." Rockwell, who portrays arms manufacturer Justin Hammer in the Favreau-directed "Iron Man 2," has joined the cast of "Cowboys," the alien invasion-meets-the Wild West project that Favreau begins shooting in June. Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde and Harrison Ford are already cast in the tale, based on a Platinum Studios graphic novel, of cowboys and Indians rising up against aliens. Sacha Baron Cohen To Play Walter Mitty?

Sacha Baron Cohen To Play Walter Mitty? The next twist in the long development of a remake of The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty has just struck Hollywood – Sacha Baron Cohen is the latest name rumored to be starring in the film, according to Pajiba. Adapted from 1947’s Danny Kaye comedy, Walter Mitty is one of those movies that attracts major talent, but can’t ever seem to make it to the screen. First mooted in 1994 with Jim Carrey starring for New Line, it’s been passed like a brightly wrapped present at a child’s birthday present between studios and directors, with Paramount and DreamWorks both involved, Ron Howard briefly attached and Steven Spielberg making it one of the 73,000 films he’s planned to direct over the years. Carrey dropped out, Owen Wilson became attached, and Spielberg just couldn’t find the time (he is, after all, a very busy man). And not to mention the screenplays – half the script doctors in LA and beyond have had their paws on it. Now 20th Century Fox, whi

Real Genius Getting Remade?

Real Genius Getting Remade? Why do people in Hollywood think it is a good idea to remake some of the best classic movies I grew up with? Maybe they want to introduce the movies to the younger generation, I can understand that, let them watch the original movie then.  Isn't anything sacred anymore. The original film starred Val Kilmer Chris Knight. Pajiba is reporting that their Hollywood source Imagine Entertainment (yes, that’s Ron Howard and Brian Grazer) have now targeted the movie as a likely candidate. The 1985 original, which despite a low box office result, remains a beloved cult comedy,  starring Val Kilmer and Gabriel Jarret. The film is set on the campus of "Pacific Tech", a fictitious technical university in the US based on Caltech. Chris Knight (Kilmer) is a genius in his senior year working on a chemical laser. He came to the university as a somber, assiduous student but mellowed over time after deciding that there is more to life than just work. Mitch
