Oz: The Great And Powerful Review. Good Bu Not Memorable

Oz: The Great and Powerful  Review By; MattInRC Oz: The Great and Powerful is good but not memorable. Releasing a sequel to a classic film has always represented a daunting task - how do you create a satisfying follow up to 2001: A Space Odyssey or tell the origins of Darth Vader without alienating your core audience? The answer is, you don't: trying to replicate a classic is like sticking your hand in a blender and hoping gold comes out. That's the feeling I got after watching Oz: The Great and Powerful , which succeeds as an origin story but won't stay with you after the lights come up. Oz ( James Franco , Spider-man franchise) is a small-time illusionist in a 1905 traveling circus whose parlor tricks are scoffed at by his small Kansas audiences. He wants the fame of Harry Houdini and Thomas Edison, along with the women, but life doesn't seem ready to grant him his wish. These first scenes, shot in the old black & white/4:3 dimension, show that

The Bourne Legacy Blu-Ray Review

The Bourne Legacy Legacy Blu-Ray Review By: MattInRC The disappointing  Bourne Legacy  delivers excellent audio and video for a film I wish was better. As a fan of Intelli-Action (fast-paced AND smartly dialogued action cinema), I have enjoyed the Bourne series because it's essentially moved the action genre into a more intelligent direction, giving old tired franchises like James Bond new life. Watch  Casino Royale  to witness the renaissance courtesy of Jason Bourne. Thus it seemed like a strange moment when the lights came on after the satisfying  The Bourne Ultimatum  had concluded. Audiences were left to wonder as to the future of a franchise when its main character was essentially vindicated. The answer from Universal would take five years to arrive, as  The Bourne Legacy  would not reset the franchise, but rather move it in a different but no less familiar direction. So, does  Legacy  offer audiences another thrill-ride/political thriller? The answer

The Bourne Legacy Review By:Ursula

The Bourne Legacy Review By:Ursula Look who's back with another review. The one and only Ursula. The Bourne Legacy had potential, but got lost in a lot of political back and forth. The beginning of the movie is a drag. The effort to catch the audience up on the previous movies becomes repetitive and unnecessary. Aaron Cross, (played by Jeremy Renner ) starts out alone, climbing and scaling rocky snowy covered mountains. Apparently, he has been banished for wrong doing. All this is going on while politics unravel back at Treadstone headquarters. Aaron Cross is linked to Dr.Shearing (played by Rachel Weisz ) by her testing blood samples for her scientific research. Her tests are on the effect the pills had on him and others in the program. It was rough sitting through the first half of the movie, other than a doctor going postal in a high security lab, because the scenes were not captivating and interesting. The characters are what carried the film. Both Aaron and the Dr.Shearin

Really A Mummy Reboot. Come On

Looks like someone at Universal took a gander at Sony re-booting the Spider-Man franchise after the last outing in 2007 and thought both, ‘Hhm… maybe we should tap that reboot reservoir...’ and, ‘Pah! 2007? Lightweights. We’ll up the ante and relaunch something that last saw cinemas in 2008!’ Hence today’s announcement that the studio has decided to reboot The Mummy . The producers – including franchise veteran Sean Daniel – have decided that Prometheus co-writer Jon Spaihts is the man to dust off Imhotep and give him a new coat of sand and evil. "I see it as the sort of opportunity I had with Prometheus: to go back to a franchise's roots in dark, scary source material and simultaneously open it up to an epic scale we haven't seen before," Spaihts tells Variety. Stephen Sommers brought Universal's veteran Egyptian troublemaker back to life in 1999, after a classic Boris Karloff effort back in 1932 and a few remakes / spin-offs in the 1940s. Sommers cast Bren

Nicole Kidman To Star In The Railway Man

It’s all change, please for one of the major roles in drama The Railway Man as Rachel Weisz ’ involvement has fallen victim to pesky scheduling issues. While she was all set to co-star alongside Colin Firth , Weisz will now have to spend her time on reshoots for both Oz: The Great And Powerful and The Bourne Legacy . But her timing misfortune is lucky for Nicole Kidman , as she’s stepping in to take the part. Jonathan Teplitzy is directing the film, which follows the harrowing real-life story of Eric Lomax. Taken prisoner by the Japanese forces during World War II, Lomax was tortured and forced to work on the notorious “death railway” in what was once known as Burma. War Horse’s Jeremy Irvine is on board to play the younger Lomax, with those scenes filmed on Australia’s Gold Coast. But before that happens, Teplitzy and his crew will kick off shooting in Scotland this April to make the modern-day sections of the film, which finds Lomax (Firth) and his wife Patti (Kidman) faci

Her encounter with Freddie Page, a troubled former Royal Air Force pilot ( Tom Hiddleston , Thor, Midnight in Paris, War Horse, The Avengers) throws her life in turmoil, as their erotic relationship leaves her emotionally stranded and physically isolated. The Bourne Legacy First Image. Whatcha Looking At?

USAToday got their hands on the first image from the upcoming film The Bourne Legacy . With Tony Gilroy still busy getting film in the can, the first image of franchise spin-off The Bourne Legacy has hit the web. Check out the massively exciting blend of explosions, sexy weapons and a scowling Jeremy Renner. Okay, okay… So the picture’s not that revealing. And it doesn’t have any weapons or explosions. The serious-looking Renner’s present and correct, though, even if he does look much as he did in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. In fact, we’re still wondering if Universal simply cut and pasted him from one of that film’s publicity stills and put him up against a new background. Then again, this film also sees him as a kick-ass international agent. Legacy finds Renner as Aaron Cross, another CIA-trained operative from a programme even more nefarious than Bourne’s Treadstone. Though Gilroy and co have been careful to keep most of the plot elements obscured for now, the lead

Rachel Weisz To Star In The Railway Man

Rachel Weisz is in final talks to join Colin Firth for new movie The Railway Man . The movie will follow a Prisoner of War who is still battling with hatred for his Japanese captors and his wife who helps him overcome his torture. The story is based on the memoirs of Scotsman Eric Lomax. During World War II, Eric - a second lieutenant in the Royal Corp of Signals - was captured by Japanese forces in Singapore and sent to a camp in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. There, he joined tens of thousands of other PoWs working on the Burma-Siam death railway and the bridge over the River Kwai. Colin will play Eric in later life as he still struggles with the horrors that were inflicted upon him in the Far East. Rachel is in final talks to play Eric’s wife Patricia, who helps to heal some of the psychological wounds. Patricia became Eric’s second wife in 1983. She encouraged him to confront his hatred, and even wrote to the man her husband held responsible for his torture. Jeremy Irvine
