First Look At Bilbo Baggins From The Hobbit

It's safe to say that 2011 is going out with a bang. But amid the latest Gotham goings-on, and with Ridley Scott reporting in from the less audible corners of space, it's easy to forget that somewhere in Middle-earth, Bilbo Baggins and his crew of footsore dwarves are Mirkwood-bound on an epic quest to find treasure and slay some serious cave troll in The Hobbit . Well, call us over-caffeinated Tolkien fanboys hyped up on pipe-weed and Christmas spirit, but we couldn't be more fired up about this one if we lived in Smaug's larynx. In fact, we're so excited that we sent our top man to Wellywood, New Zealand, to get the latest from the set of Peter Jackson's new Tolkien two-parter. Peter Jackson's The Hobbit Video Blog #4 Talks 3-D- "The first thing I filmed was finding the ring in Gollum's cave," Martin Freeman told us nonchalantly, giving an insight into his approach to hobbiting. "It's good to know, but not play, the importance

WEST OF MEMPHIS Documentary Film Complete

WingNut Films proudly announced today the completion of WEST OF MEMPHIS – a documentary film chronicling the untold story behind one of the most infamous miscarriages of justice in American history; the story of an extraordinary and desperate fight to stop the State of Arkansas from killing an innocent man. The film has been produced by first-time filmmakers Damien Echols and Lorri Davis, in collaboration with the Academy Award-winning team of Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh. Jackson and Walsh became involved in 2005, when they helped to re-invigorate the then stagnant case by funding a new investigation. The film has been written and directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker, Amy Berg (Deliver Us From Evil). Starting with a searing examination of the police investigation into the 1993 murders of three eight-year-old boys – Christopher Byers, Steven Branch and Michael Moore in the small town of West Memphis, Arkansas, the film goes on to reveal hitherto unknown evidence surroun

Peter Jackson's The Hobbit Video Blog #4 Talks 3-D

Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit director Peter Jackson has just made a new thrilling production video available to all of us Middle-earth fans. This time, we're being plunged into the world of 3-D, and we get to see those dwarves and hobbits in action. The fourth production video blog Jackson recently made available on his Facebook page mainly concentrates on the intricacies of filming in HD 3-D with about four dozen RED Epic cameras, which, as you'll see for yourselves, Jackson has all named—yes, named—after family members, pets and even the Beatles. Peter Jackson says shooting The Hobbit in 3-D is ''a dream come true,'' and we learn that the Oscar-winning director would have filmed LOTR in 3-D if the same technology had been available back when he set out to film his masterpiece more than 12 years ago. The very interesting (if fairly technical) production blog also features some nifty behind-the-scenes footage (while filming was taking place on a

Peter Jackson & Steven Spielberg Talk Tin Tin

A highlight of day 3 at Empire Presents... Big Screen came in the adventuresome shape of The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn clips. Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg recorded a special message, reminiscing together about their first ever meeting: yup, on stage at the Oscars. As you do. Spielberg elaborated on the origins of their partnership: “When I’d finally got a [Tintin] story I was happy with, and the beginnings of a script, I wanted a feasibility study to see if I should do the movie in live action. I need a CG Snowy for this so I went to Peter’s company, Weta Digital.” Jackson took up the tale, explaining how he’d asked Weta's team to rustle up a Captain Haddock costume, before donning the threads himself and acting out some scenes on the Weta back-lot. “I couldn’t think of anyone better to play Captain Haddock than me," laughed the director. The CG Snowy was added and the footage sent to the set of War Of The Worlds. “I immediately forgot Snowy,”

First Look At Thorin Oakenshield From The Hobbit

We have seen Fili & Kili , Well the TheOneRing.net has got their hands on the  first look image of Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield from THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY. As a young Dwarf prince, Thorin witnessed the destruction and terror wrought when a great fire-breathing Dragon attacked the Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. After slaughtering many of Thorin’s kin, the great serpent, Smaug, entered The Lonely Mountain and took possession of its vast store of gold and jewels. No-one came to the aid of the surviving Dwarves, and thus, a once proud and noble race was forced into exile. Through long years of hardship, Thorin grew to be a strong and fearless fighter and revered leader. In his heart a fierce desire grew; a desire to reclaim his homeland and destroy the beast that had brought such misery upon his people. So when fate offers him an unusual ally, he seizes the chance for revenge. Cate Blanchett (LOTR Films) returns as Galadriel, the Lady of Lothlorien Ian McKellen (

The 64-year-old filmmaker will receive an Inkpot Award, which has been presented since 1974 to signature figures in comics and genre entertainment, among them Ray Bradbury, Jack Kirby, Hayao Miyazaki and R. We have seen Fili and Kili and today IGN has our first look at James Nesbitt as Bofur and William Kircher as Bifur from THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY . While most of the Company of Thorin Oakensheild is related to the royal and noble line of Durin, Bofur, his brother Bombur and their cousin Bifur most definitely are … not. The Hobbit's Dwarves Are Here

Aaron Sorkin may have ditched Facebook but Peter Jackson definitely hasn't. The most recent status update from Middle-earth brings us our first glimpse of The Hobbit's dwarves - well, three of them at any rate - all kitted out for their unexpected journey. While we wait for Peter Jackson's next hobbi-blogisode from the movie's Wellington set and the production's official bow at Comic-Con next month, this exciting taster of the dwarfish costume design should keep us tided over nicely. See the entire picture after the Jump... From left to right, the trio are Nori (ex-Orc Jed Brophy), Ori (Adam Brown) and Dori (Mark Hadlow). New Images From The Hobbit. IAN MCKELLEN As GANDALF

EW has the first 3 official pictures from the set of The Hobbit. In the pictures we get to see Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins and Ian McKellen as Gandalf. Who's Excited for these images? See all the images after the Jump... IAN MCKELLEN (GANDALF) ”He’s in fantastic form,” Peter Jackson says of McKellen. ”In a way, his role in The Hobbit has more technical difficulties than Lord of the Rings did, because he has scenes with 14 smaller characters — obviously the dwarves and the hobbit are shorter… I remember saying to him [laughs], ”Look, this isn’t Waiting for Godot or King Lear. This is The Hobbit. This is the real thing.” PETER JACKSON WITH MARTIN FREEMAN ”There’s no way you can pace yourself for shoots like these,” Jackson says. ”When we were going through the schedule for The Hobbit, I felt a terrible drop in my stomach when I saw that we’d be shooting for 254 days. We’re only 12 days short of The Lord of the Rings even though we’re only doing two movies. When I saw

Evangeline Lilly Added To The Cast Of The Hobbit

Peter Jackson took to Facebook to announce two new additions to the cast of his upcoming film The Hobbit . We've finished our first block of shooting and moved straight into location scouting. More on that soon... But today, I'm thrilled to announce two new cast members who will be joining us for our second block of shooting. Evangeline Lilly will be playing a new character—the Woodland Elf, Tauriel . Her name means 'daughter of Mirkwood' and, beyond that, we must leave you guessing! (No, there is no romantic connection to Legolas.) What is not a secret is how talented and compelling an actress Evangeline is; we are thrilled and excited she will be the one to bring our first true Sylvan Elf to life. I'm also highly excited that Barry Humphries will be portraying the Goblin King , in much the way Andy Serkis created Gollum. Barry is perhaps best known for his business and social connections as the long-time manager of Dame Edna Everage. He has also been an
