New film is flawed, but not worth all the mass hysteria. Review by Brandon Wolfe The acrimony that has greeted Paul Feig’s reboot of Ghostbusters has been historic. It is quite possible that no film, in the long, angry, two-decade history of the Internet, has been so aggressively pre-hated. A toxic fusion of fierce overprotectiveness of the beloved original 1984 film coupled with ghastly, rampant sexism over the new film’s all-female cast has had denizens of online forums and social media frothing at the mouth with outrage at the film for having the gall to exist. Legions of pasty, irate true believers have heaved bile all over any and every mention of the film to appear online. The teaser trailer—admittedly not a great one—bore the dubious distinction of being voted the most disliked movie trailer in the history of YouTube. First look at one of the vehicles used by Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy and the rest of the new team, the Ecto-2 motorbike . As built by Madhouse Motors for the movie, the bike shows off the even more home-made aesthetic of this fresh breed of 'busters. We're not sure that weapon strapped on to the handlebars should be used, because it looks like it could fly off at any moment. Jonathan Levine will direct the movie, which Paul Feig is producing with Chernin Entertainment. Oscar winner Goldie Hawn is in talks to play Amy Schumer ‘s mother in an upcoming comedy from director Jonathan Levine, an individual familiar with the 20th Century Fox project has told TheWrap . The project would mark Hawn’s return to the big screen after more than a decade, her last feature role having been in the 2002 comedy “The Banger Sisters.” Paul Feig is producing under his Feigco banner along with Chernin Entertainment. Katie Dippold wrote the script and will serve as an executive producer. 20th Century Fox executive Daria Cercek is overseeing the project. The film, which is inspired by Dippold’s relationship with her mother, follows a family vacation gone wrong. Hawn won an Oscar for her supporting performance in 1969’s “Cactus Flower” and was nominated again for “Private Benjamin” in 1980. She’s represented by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.
